Ol Son Outdoors reached out to us to film an ibex hunt, and of course we said yes. Chasing ibex has always been a dream of ours, and thanks to these guys, we got to tag along. Although it was only a nanny or immature billy tag, we knew we’d still get to see some big goats!
Matt and Derek had chased them with bows before, but ended up not filling their tags. They knew how to pattern and chase these wild goats, and now that they had a rifle in their hands, the chances of filling a tag were even greater.
After spotting a few herds the evening before the hunt, we had a good spot to put a stalk on. After hiking a few hours in the dark, we were in position and Matt took a shot.
He punched his tag on his ibex at the top of the mountain. At first, we were worried we would need a climber to recover the harvest, but a few moments later, she rolled off the cliff to a spot with access.
We had the chance to meet new hunters and make great bonds. It was an awesome experience to see these guys hunt and harvest an ibex. Thank you to Ol Son Outdoors for including us in your adventure!
