MG's new Hybrid+ technology is making its entrance on the brand-new MG3, marking the first time an MG car has used a traditional, non-plug-in hybrid system for power.
This innovative system combines a 1.5-liter Atkinson-cycle petrol engine, which produces 101 horsepower, with an electric motor that adds another 134 horsepower, resulting in a total power output of 191 horsepower. The engine is paired with a three-speed automatic gearbox.
Equipped with a 1.83 kWh battery, the MG3's efficiency is significantly enhanced. The vehicle offers several driving modes, each with its own unique name: EV, Series, Series and Charge, Drive and Charge, and Parallel.
In EV mode, the car operates solely on electric power. The Series mode allows the petrol engine to power a generator, which then powers the electric motor. The Series and Charge mode charges the battery while driving under low demand.
Drive and Charge mode has the engine both powering the wheels and charging the battery, and in Parallel mode, both the engine and electric motor are engaged. Drivers can also select from Eco, Standard, and Sport modes to match their driving preferences.
MG boasts that this model is the quickest accelerating hybrid hatchback in the B-segment, achieving 0 to 62 mph in just 8 seconds and 50 to 75 mph in 5.0 seconds.
The new MG3 is said to offer more space than its predecessor, making it more suitable for city driving despite its compact size.
Improvements include better soundproofing and a revamped suspension system, making the ride smoother and more enjoyable.
The MG3 will be sold in two versions, both equipped with the Hybrid+ system. UK customers can choose between the SE and Trophy models.
New owners will appreciate the dual-screen cockpit featuring a 7-inch digital display and a 10.25-inch touchscreen. The redesign of the center console improves both safety and convenience.
Standard features include navigation, compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, air conditioning, a six-speaker audio system with Bluetooth, four USB ports, rear parking sensors, and a camera.
The Trophy model adds leather-style seats, keyless entry, heated front seats and steering wheel, and a 360-degree camera.
Options for the MG3 include alloy wheels, LED headlights, and six color choices, with the design originating from MG's Shanghai studio.
MG offers a seven-year or 80,000-mile warranty with this model, ensuring peace of mind for buyers.
