That's my biggest thought. I could see this being nice for quick applications but for a full job with a large tree that has to be taken down segment by segment could be a stretch for the battery

This drastically outperforms the single battery Milwaukee electric chainsaws some of the crews have at my yard. We love the Milwaukee electric jackhammer, but generally prefer a gas-powered Stihl to Milwaukee's previous chainsaws. This product may change that. 🙂

If your in to the M18 battery system this chainsaw will work well, rich home owners and work crews. Tree service and pro loggers not the market. If you think the gas saw is loud, just wait for the chipper to start. Saw kit $900.00 plus two more M18 9-12amp $400.00 = $1300. A 70cc gas MS462 is about the same price. Husqvarna 572xp is cheaper at $1000.00. One of the "gray" gas saws was a Stihl. It didn't look or sound like MS462 with a 20"bar. MS261 50cc maybe ? $700.00 MSRP. When it hits the market we will see some real side by side races . Just never get the air of honestly when at the shows. When manufacturers are doing side by side comparison my BS meter is going off. At work (Fire&Rescue) we run Dewalt system and a battery chainsaw is one of the tools on the trucks. That said ,when the storms hit and more then a few cuts are needed out come the gas saws. 55cc-70cc 18-28" Ladders and rescue carry them all the time. Saw kits are added to pumpers as part of storm preparations. Even with all of my gas saws 25cc-91cc (12 total). I still have an EGO saw that matches the mower in the shed. It just sits for mouths with no service ready to cut when you clip in a battery from the mower. The price of this saw Just doesn't make it homeowner friendly . Most homeowners are buying $200.00 and under saws. With no training or safety gear. If M18 is your work crew tools and you need a saw bigger then the pole pruner. Milwaukee has the saw your looking for. Step right up , hand over that sweet company card and your on your way.

I'm a big fan of electric saws, I have an off grid property and figured I'd start with electric and go gas if I feel I really need gas, but so far I've been fine with electric. I have a small Ryobi 18v one that I don't use that much anymore, and a 80v Greenworks which gets the most use now. I can buck logs all day for firewood, and swap batteries and keep going while others are on charger. I get tired before I run out of batteries. The batteries work in all my other tools too like the lawnmower, leaf blower, snow blower etc. The electric stuff has come a long way since nicad batteries and brushed motors.

Just as a recommendation as far as cordless saws go, the new DeWalt top handle dccs674 is a fkn monster, and great for climbing arborists but I’ve actually also found it really competent for anything I’ve thrown at it from cleanup to felling small to medium sized trees, imo the biggest difference compared to every other batt powered saw is the 674 has a ( for cordless a fairly high chain speed 75ft/sec chainspeed which is 33%faster than the m18 2826 THandle at 49ft/sec which I like the ergonomics far better on the 2826 but it’s just a chatter bug on small baby branches and the DeWalt just doesn’t. Not only that it’s not a battery destroying machine burning out BMS chips and or throwing the middle cell banks out of balance then the pack won’t fully charge. Only suggestion to anyone with a 2826 would be keep only to use 6ah HO and forge packs they just perform so much better (not overheating) Also make sure the vent by the chain brake is blown out with compressed air and cleaned or it can actually get clogged and prevent your chain brake from activating if you let it accumulate and gum up over time…The dccs674 only has one real big con and one gripe the con is the one minute auto shutdown which would be ok if the saw cancelled the auto off when it senses the brake was activated but it doesn’t, and cmon if I’m bucking or looking at something to see if it’s gonna have a propensity to roll or whatever, it can realistically take a minute I always engage brake after cut then move on and assess the next cut and after that the 674 is shut off every time which really does annoy me. I get it if the brakes not engaged it’s obviously a safety hazard but if you have good chain brake habits it’s flat out overkill and I don’t see it being a difficult issue to fix.

@@nickgamble4544 there are different kinds of jobs and crews. This channel is about linemen. They aren't spending 8 hours straight using a chain saw. They are removing what's urgent to remove and moving on with the other steps needed to remove power. And even on a tree crew, there are situations where you are doing something technical and challenging and the ability to communicate trumps the ability to cut nonstop for hours.

Run it against a stihl ms 462 or a husqvarna 572xp. At least with those you can run a 32 inch bar without having to worry about over heating the batteries. I cut trees for a living and can see where the milwaukee has a place, but here on the west coast we need long bars for our trees.

The saw is pretty impressive, and in a case like yours where you need different tools at different times, and would prefer to not have 10 different battery systems, I can see where this is beneficial - Something to keep in mind - I haven't been able to find much in the way of details, but I ASSUME it's putting the batteries in series for 36v. Assuming that's the case, you'd want to make sure both batteries are fully charged before being inserted. But this is really a niche tool. In my experience with Stihl battery powered tools, they seem to be quite superior. But then that means another battery system. It's a balancing act. Honestly, for the kind of cutting you tend to do, this saw would probably be awesome. But this cutting 18" logs like they were doing is not something you'd typically do with such a saw. Completely unrealistic for that saws truly intended use case. If you're talking about an arborist that's chopping up a felled tree, this simply won't work unless they have a truckload of batteries to swap out every 20 or so cuts.

I've watched a few arborists dabbling with the electric saws over the years. The industry is continuing to advance. Milwaukee in particular seems to actively solicit feed back then engineers to it. It is a very different work experience when they are opening up a new tree to fell with an electric saw. So quiet. Better communication. I'm sure residents don't even know what is occurring until they pull out the big guns to take the tree down. As for demonstrations... Really like to see known industry standard gas saws in action. The fact I don't hear the crew clearing a flooded saw is telling.

Isn't even gas in the dam saw. See I hate it when they do promos like this. Ita like okay I get it that battery saw is never goina compared to a big boy gas power saw. But I'm sure plenty of people would love a simple light saw like this. So show how close it gets to the gas powered. Then go over uses like normal people would be using it for. I won’t say the mfg. if it was small stuff I might say ok. But as a tree guy they don’t hold up. Not even close. Let alone battery cost. They don’t last long per use and life. I have done a full breakdown gas verse electric. Gas by far is best. I could care less what I use. Gas. Electric. Or a dam beaver. Time saved. Overall cost. Upkeep. Insurance. Gas by far beats them all. If I was a homeowner it wouldn’t be worth it unless I have a lot of tree work in my yard and do it myself. Oh yaw fyi. If it breaks. Don’t think about repairing it. Go buy a new one. I couldn’t find anyone to fix it for a good price.

Apples to Apples, sharpen the gas chain. Dull as all get out, look at the chips. Gas will win hands down especially in the real world of tree cutting. My best guess, need several thousand dollars of batteries and charges for 1 tree removal. That buys a tremendous amount of gas and oil!

It's not aimed at the forestry industry. It's aimed at people who need to occasionally cut with a chainsaw in sporadic and small amounts. I have an electric (AC) chainsaw and it meets all my needs - otherwise I'd buy a chainsaw to go with my 80V Greenworks batteries (Lawnmower, leafblower...)
