i think i'll wait for a full electric model :) i was really considering the phev but after many many reviews 30miles distance isn't enough for me on electric mode.

Thanks for the description. Mostly, thanks for the music, I really like it! Nice stuff.

The car uses an electric CVT so there is no belt to wear out or break down in this transmission. The parallel hybrid mode is simply a clutch connecting the combustion engine to the wheels with a ratio similar to 6th gear in a manual transmission.

You ask why the petrol motor charges the battery which in turn runs the wheels. This I imagine is because it is not actually charging the battery at this point, but rather adding the required current needed by the two 60kw motors. The battery pack is too small to supply more than about 60kw continuously, so the generator is needed for supplying this extra power, hence the petrol motor starts.

At the 3:10 mark the reviewer states that the petrol engine can charge the battery directly OR drive the front engine directly. My understanding was that the engine only charged the battery and that there was no "transmission" connecting the petrol engine to the front electric motor. In other words, I understood that the engine provides juice to the battery. At speeds above 70 or when flooring the accelerator the petrol engine kicks in to provide the additional electricity needed by the electric motors, not to drive the front mechanically. Please clarify if you know the answer.

The engine can drive the front wheels directly. There's a hydraulic clutch on the front transaxle that allows this. It can even recharge the batteries while doing it.

WELL DONE AND THANK YOU. That must be the first test drive of this car that actually shows the car driving and not the presenter, plus it shows the car actually driving and overtaking, plus some basic off road stuff. Very very good demo of the PHEV, why cant all the A holes who do test drives just tell you about the car and not there wives or kids. WELL DONE AND THANK YOU. A very good test drive. Plus no fukin PORNO music........

Mitsubishi FMC does not give warning when the front car is moving in slow and your car is approaching in high speed.Mitsubishi has to update its software to adopt a relative velocity and distance fine tune for FMC warning. I am disappointed when compare to other company such feature. I am a Outlander PHEV GT 2018 owner.

The 0-30mph speed on this gen2 is meant to be improved. Did you notice this if you've driven gen1?

+Will Yes, Mitsu say it's now two seconds faster to 25mph, and it's definitely lost that slightly lethargic feeling of the old one. What I noticed more readily, though, was the improvement in its overtaking ability. The part at 6:18 sees it accelerate from about 40mph to nearly 60mph in fairly short order, thanks to the new motor calibration.

Economy into triple figures you say, an oddity of the PHEV is that Mitsubishi choose to display the mpg in 2 digit, one decimal place format (eg; 99.9 mpg). Above that, it displays __._. As we all know these displays are generally a bit on the optimistic side, why do we need a display which shows a decimal place? Why not just give it 3 full digits?

The only engine variant my country has is a 2.4 litre non turbo petrol engine! definitely not going to be a best seller here!

Why would you show a car where the opening shot shows the awful orange peel finish of the paint job?
