I am considering getting an inexpensive drone (under $300) for site surveying. Helps for reviewing for items I may have missed taking off existing conditions while there. In that case 4k (for detail) but 17fps is perfectly acceptable. Follow me, waypoints, the photos and return home is all I ask for. Oh, and fairly robust construction.
@@Bigrignohio FYI Big Rig if you use ANY drone for your business you MUST get a part 107 licence with the FAA. This is required any time a drone us used in furtherance of a business.
@@ricdav3891 Still not have made the purchase (operating on Covid lockdown for site visits) but plan on getting the license. Local community college offers a course/etc that covers everything required.
the GPS is NOT the same as the Compass. The Calibration that you did calibrates the compass. Many people seem to get confused about this. Of course you can do a compass calibration anywhere (inside or outside) as long as there is not electrical or magnetic interference.
I can definitely see the reduced framerate at 4k 17fps during video while the drone is moving. Thanks for the review in the super cold! Looks like this is a great flying drone and better image than the original, but I'm looking at the Zino Pro or the Mavic Mini for the stability of the camera gimbal.
I fly the JJRC X11 and I can't see the added value from a 4K camera without a gimbal that records at 17 fps. You should enjoy a drone like this for what it is; an agile, powerful flyer and if you want to record good footage you can get that for slightly more from for instance an original Hubsan Zino.
I agree, I have this and a Zino Pro. This is quicker to get it flying, but it's definitely more toy grade. The video is much better than the original 4W in 2k, but the lack of a gimbal makes it better for taking fisheye photos. The Zino takes fantastic, clear, stabilized video.
Looks like a nice solid drone. Maybe they should give it at least a 2-axis gimbal to keep the cost down. I will never understand why a lot of these drones have a high resolution video camera without any sort of stabilization.
It all comes down to cost. Adding a 2 or 3 axis gimbal would more than likely add another $75 to the price. I expect summer of year 2020 to be flooded with 2 and 3 axis gimbal low cost drones
CAPTAIN DRONE yes, agree 100%. Low cost drones are closing the gap fast. The areas they trail the DJI type of drones are in videography stabilisation, flight range and sensors. So I expect the image stabilisation to be the first thing they cross off the list. Range is getting better but not a big deal for those who follow the rules and keep the drones in line of site. I expect obstacle avoidance sensors will start to appear on cheaper drones soon as well. Many already have ultrasound sensors beneath the drones, so could easily adapt this technology for obstacle avoidance.
I feel like certain people ( including myself) just can't pay for those extra features and just want something fun. Not everyone wants or needs a cinema drone and the price jump for adding a gimbal may not be worth it.
James Postle true but we’ve already seen some of the cheaper model introduce gimbals already this year. Eg the Beast SG996 now has a Pro version with 2-axis gimbal for close to same price as SG906. So people even in a budget can get really good drones and now with a half decent camera. And it’s only the beginning of 2020 so by the end of the year they should be in almost every decent cheaper drone.
I've watch this video like 10 times. I love the review. Thanks to you I have one on the way. Cant wait to get it and try it out myself. Anyways, great video and keep up the good work. Take care..
@@arcadesoldier5043 I got mine on the first day of quarantine in the UK, so I was very lucky. It's really nice to fly but I can't comment on camera quality as I don't have an SD card for it, but the FPV is quite good
@@vdygdb That's good to hear. I'm still waiting on mine to arrive. I order it back in April and still haven't received it. But I cant wait to try it out. I've got my landing pad n my SD card ready. Just waiting on my drone. Lol
@@arcadesoldier5043 I hope you can receive it sometime soon. This weather is perfect for it and wind is infrequent. But I can confirm it can withstand a 30 kph wind. The fastest I was able to take it was about 50 kph. It really is a good bargain for a drone of this calibre
I really want this drone but the only problem is there aren’t many places online to buy them from besides eBay and geekbuying. I realized geek buying is way cheaper but I would like to know if it is a trustworthy site, because I have seen a lot of bad reviews with people not having good experiences with geekbuying. So is it a trustworthy website?
All Chinese stores are the same and in my opinion, they are all perfectly fine as long as you know what you are doing. You may wish to watch my video regarding buying drones from China. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z69A5Qyss0w.html
I bought one of these based on your review, thank you. This is my first drone to "dip-my-toe" and didn't expect much but I am impressed with the quality and how much punishment it has stood up to. Bought from Banggood btw.
I know you have had a lot of questions from me to the point of being a pest. I just wanted at this time to thank you so much for taking the time to answer all these questions. I have to say that you are the most dependable host to return a comment. A week or so before Christmass a tornado ripped thru my community just barley missing my home Prior to that I lost my father, but communicating about drones really uplifted my mental state. Thank you Captain Drone. You are a very energetic intelligent person. Thanks again from my heart.
Wrong question... You can put a poor camera on a 3 axis gimbal and it will look great. The BUGS 4W 4K has a great camera, but no gimbal. The X12 has a good camera on a gimbal.
So much for my timing. I just ordered the 2K version. The human eye at 1:1 cannot discriminate between 2 and 4K. Electronically in 4K, you have a wider field of view and better low light performance. Things are going to appear further away and curved, which may or may not be an issue for your particular use. Also, with 4K, you can enlarge the image with much better resolution. What I DO like about this model, is it ups the frame rate at 2K to 25 FPS instead of 20, which makes a significant difference in the smoothness of the video stream. Amazon will have these in stock for about $40 more in 3 to 4 weeks. I never order electronics over $200 directly from China because returns are a pain. Amazon has a no questions asked 30 return policy which is worth the premium.
"Compass calibration" has nothing to do with GPS in my opinion, so there's no "fake calibration". An electronic compass works based on Hall-sensors, and these work indoors very well.

CAPTAIN DRONE Thanks for your great video. After all, are the videos better or not than the models with 2k cameras?
Thanks Captain. I bought the Bugs 4 2k video version a while ago after seeing your review. Flew it in the weekend. Such a stable and easy drone to fly. Very reliable 👍
@@blazenicholls3590 Thank you for having faith in me. I will do my best not to wipe it out. Thank you. I think I will need it. Appreciate you being a encouraging friend.

This might be a silly question but is there any difference between the BUGS 4W Drone with 4K Camera? Ive seen them with either this black top or blue top color?
Had hopes for this one. 4K at 17fps, why bother developing that? Nobody enjoys that footage. I would expect the 2k to be at least 30fps. Still a nice drone but not for the camera. 4k/2k at minimum 30fps is what you want on a camera drone. 3 axis gimbal would of course be a nice addition but effects the price. I would go frame rate over gimbal. Note how the action cams can now stabilize footage without gimbals. Drones should also invest in this technology. Thanks for the review/testing. With review could you also include your opinion on the drone and it's camera? You test them all so you have the expert opinion. :)
I have this drone for a few years now,but today I accidentally deleted the app from my tablet ( that’s what I used for the camera gps etc)Now ,I can not find the app for bugs B4W anywhere, however I still have the app in my cell phone, where or how can I put the app bag in my tablet.Any help will be greatly appreciated.
It sounds like, from what you wrote, that the app is no longer available on the store (Play store or App Store). Which means you'll need to do a Google Search for it and download it directly to your phone.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798It wasn’t available on line for free, but I was able to share it with my tablet from my iPhone, then I downloaded it as an app,it worked.Thank you.
Is it expensive for manufacturers to add a gimbal? I like everything about this drone except the shaky video. The body design looks like many other drones and the cost of changing the molds to accommodate a gimbal is probably prohibitive. Nice review Steve. Thanks for braving the cold!
I've been comparing bugs 4w 4k photos to Bugs 7 4k photos and bugs 7 pictures are much clearer. Seems to be 4W trees are blurred but B7 are sharp. If you prefer clear photos, go with Bugs 7. I thought they were supposed to be the same quality but they are not.
Super video. I've been trying to get a drive for a while but I have a cooking channel and I want to do more of a blog still coming channel and a drive could be pretty neat. I just recently found your channel and love it. I'm on disability but maybe one day I can save up for a decent drone. Thanks for all the videos I really appreciate them.
I too my friend. I have a steel plate in my right leg but that ain't going to stop me. I finally ordered one. Wish me luck that I don't crash it on first flight.who knows?
No it shouldn't and no its not that great a drone for the price... There is a lot more out there and this company provides no support for issues or parts. Even propellers
@@crazytekkie1 Everyone has their own opinions and experiences, personally I went with SJRC F11 Pro, then the c-fly Faith, if you want to drone, even a hobby drone, you need a gimbal mounted camera that doesn't fish eye as both spoil the experience....imho
Nice drone for sure. How many reviewers go out in -10°temperatures for fun and our enjoyment? Not many I think. Thanks Captain, always quality reviews. Despite being frozen.
To be honest, if you're flying quite conservatively you can get some relatively smooth videos. I don't have an SD card though but the FPV footage I recorded was quite smooth for a gimble-less drone
99.9% of low cost budget drones do not have a serial number. This is because there is no warranty or after sales service. Just make up a number or use your phone number as the serial number.
For the price this is one amazing piece of equipment. Looks like it's best for doing still shots versus video do the gimbals. Although if you have smooth are I'm sure the videos will look fantastic as well. Definitely something that should be added to anyone's collection. Thank you sir and Merry Christmas! Stay warm.
As a hobbiest that is used to building RC. ARF and Kits. And typically used to a Dx8/Futaba, flying all sorts of Align Helicopters, fixed wing and FPV. Been out of the loop for 8 years. Are their kits out there to use your TX (DX8?) as I have a droor full of specktrum RX'S. Can you build a kit under $2400 that can match this models specs? Wow that controller is amazing! Only reason I hate a million controllers everywhere while I can program over 20+ models on a regular TX. Thanks! Also these RTF drone models will go out of date and then a new version comes out. Then possible a $2400 wall hanger hehe)
Camera drones have a digital sophisticated system of communication and not the simple basic system of the DX8. You'd be stuck in the FPV drone hobby with that.
Thank you, I'm starting to see what features I should be looking for when purchasing my first drone and your videos are really helpful. I like this one very much, just not sure about the ultra-wide camera angle as it gives everything that "fish-eye'd lens" look.
And my first drone was tello and i learned how to fly drones is not the best but i killed it in fell into a pond it was in there for 24h but it stil flew for like 3 months than it broke
When my MJX Bugs 4W drone is not in use, so stored for the cold winter months, do I only charge the batteries to about 50%? And this charger that comes with the drone has 1-4 charge level lights, so then charge it only to the 2nd light is steady on, and the 3rd light just starts flashing, right?
Hi quiet new to the drone hobby i am looking to upgrade from my super cheap £40 drone i dont have the funds for a dji mavic mini so i have been looking around and im torn between the bugs 4w 4k and the jjrc 12 which would people recommend there pretty much the same price so im looking to chich one is all around better thanks james
I tried to fly mine before it's a little bit windy. But I had 10 satellites but I couldn't land it and it crashed. It's fine a few scuffs on the props. But how do you land it on the ground lol..Thanks.
Hello and thank you for all your help. I have a bugs 4 and I bought a MI wifi extender so the video cuts out. Can you help me with how to connect it to the drone. I've tried but no luck.
Great drone (all Bugs drones). 4K Is the way to go and i no longer want to use my 1080p drones anymore. When Bugs add a 2 or 3 axis gimbal i will buy one again. The 4K definitly looks better Steve. And a Merry Christmas Captain.😀😀😀
one of my motors smoked/stopped working..where can I get a replacement motor? I have checked ebay and they ask new version or old how can you tell the difference? thanks love your videos
When it comes to drones, you just replace motors based on the spindel size and KV. I have no idea what it is for this drone so your only option is to buy a broken BUGS 4W for cheap and use the parts.
Been researching beginner drones... Thank you for this channel.. Your videos were extremely helpful in making my decision. I ordered this drone from the link you provided in the description of this video. I have a metal detecting hobby channel here on youtube and this drone will add some cool video for my hunts... I have no doubt I will get many questions once I begin using the drone in my videos and I will be sending those folks to your page.... Thanks buddy. Stay Safe!
Why bother getting a 2 axis gimbal with jello and instead get a steady gimbal. There's still to much jello in this drone. Get a SJRC F11 package and be done with it.
why do you say you did a 'fake' compass calibration? The compass has nothing to do with the gps. Also gotta watch where you do a compass calibration. You did it above a steel box spring -steel beams in the floor/basement? -steel studs and conduit in the wall?
One other thing... FPV connection on both bugs 4&7 are terrible. Continuous disconnection from both drones so it's near impossible to use them both without line of sight vision on them.
Hi Cap! Im thinking of buying a bug. No I ám buying one :) but why would i choose this one over the cheaper 2k version? Apologies if you already answered this..
Great review again my friend. 👍👍 But you know me. 😁😁 Finally the money saved for the MM, but I want the fly more combo and it is not yet available in the Netherlands. So I have to be patient again. The predictions are January. That will be great start to the new year. 💪💪 Have a nice day and keep smiling for now. And until the next. 🖐🖐🖐🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱
What's the purpose of the controller antennas? Do you connect your phone to the controller and it controls the drone? You mention wifi5 required for the phone and it sounded like the drone talks directly to the phone.
The compass and GPS work together and they can not disagree or you get toilet bowl. If indoors, the Compass and GPS will not activate due to the GPS not activating.
Captain Drone, It really, is a good drone, for the price it costs, I learned what I know about flying, from him. Does anyone know how to see in the flight logs, the duration in time of the flight?
Captain drone... I bought that drone after watching your video, but lost GPS signals around 300 feets, plus don't connect with the app bugs go! The camera is not good either 😒 4k... I bought the 4k drone... is anything else can do? Thanks for your help.
Range depends on your phone because the connection is between your phone and the drone, so if you have a case on your phone, remove it and it should help. Also the location you fly and the time of day also makes a difference.
Can you help me please. When I'm flying my controller starts beeping and my phone says 30m altitude and 100m distance? I have everything set the way it came. I just changed the RTH, To 30m just for the tree's. But it keeps saying batterie 30m altitude and 100m distance and beeps really loud. Why is this if you can help me please Steve or anyone else in the comments. Thanks. I've had 2 good flights so far apart from the beeping.

Hi Captain Drone, Love your channel. I purchased a bugs 4w 4k drone I seen to only seem to only get about 100 - 110 meters before I lose video signal. Am using an iPhone 7. Do you have any suggestions. Thanks
Range for those type of drones is controller by your cell phone so if the iPhone 7 has a crappy Wifi then you get crappy range. If the phone has a case, remove it. Also if you fly around or near wifi interference, it is even worse.
Hey CD.. Ok so I got this drone today in the mail... obviously I'm on a budget BUT looking forward to my first flight with my first ever drone... Given its lacking camera gimbal.. Could you recommend any FREE lol image stabilization software that would help with the videos?? Keep the awesome videos coming!!
I just ordered the SJRC F11 Pro. Now I’m regretting not buying this instead. Is it worth me returning the f11 pro to buy the bugs 4w? Or do you think they are close as far as performance so it’s not worth the Hastle? This is my first drone so I don’t know a whole lot about them?
Thank you for the reply. Just didn’t know if the sensors on the bottom of the big would give it any sort of advantage. Like I said I’ve never owned a drone so any advice is greatly appreciated!
Couldn’t it be possible that the jello is caused by the sunny weather (faster shutter times) instead of the cold? Perhaps you could fly it outside when it is clouded or in the late afternoon
Hi Captin, I have just purchased the bugs 4w 4k drone with 3 batterys, my question is I do the compass calibration and gps when I set up first and fly but when the first battery runs out and I change to battery 2 then battery 3 later on do I have to calibrate and do the compass calibration every time I change the batterys. Thanks for your help. Garry.
Any drone that you find in this price range that says it is 4K should take good photos. The JJRC X9P takes good photos and has a gimbal, but it only has a 15 min flight time.
HI, I saw no difference from 2k to 4k. I'm thinking about getting the older version for a lot less money, and if I understand correctly, it has better camera dampening/stability? That, and the fact that I'm brand new to this sport. I'm seeing the old version on Amazon for $140.00 US. Is that correct? Anyway, thanks so much for your videos for me to watch in my 'baby' stage.
Hi, first ... great video even if it is there since 2019 and I say that because I have just purchased this quadcopter and it's fantastic especially for the price I paid (£95) !!! I have one question, something I am trying to find and I am not able so far, I saw on you video that there was a camera setting about fpv frame quality with different setups like "smooth" for example( at 6:48).
