this song grows and grows for over 20 years now - and definitely no end in sight; this live-version is ... ah forget it - every comment on this is justsuperfluous - just watch and listen
The time I think most clearly The time I drift away Is on the bus ride That meanders Up these valleys of green and grey I get to think about what might have been And what may yet come true And I get to pass the rainy mile Thinking of you And all the while, all the while I still hear that call To the land of gold and poison That beckons to us all Nothing changes here very much You used to say it never will The pubs are all full on Friday nights And things get started still We spent hours last week with Billy Boy Bleeding, yeah, queuing in casualty Stare at those posters we used to laugh at Never-never land, palm trees by the sea Well, there was no need for those guys to hurt him so bad When all they had to do was knock him down But no one asks too many questions like that anymore Since you left this town And tomorrow brings another train Another young brave steals away But you're the one I remember From these valleys of the green and the grey You used to talk about winners and losers all the time As if that was all there was As if we were not of the same blood family As if we lived by different laws Do you owe so much less to these rain swept hills Than you owe to your good self? Is it true that the world has always got to be something That seems to happen somewhere else? For God's sake Don't you realize That I still hear that call? Do you think you're so brave Just to go running To that which beckons to us all? And tomorrow brings another train Another young brave steals away But you're the one I remember From these valleys of the green and the grey No, not for one second Did you look behind you As you were walking away Never once did you wish any of us well Those who had chosen to stay And if that's what it takes to make it In the place that you live today Then I guess you'll never read these letters that I sent From the valleys of the green and the grey Valleys of the green and the grey
greatesr band ever greatest people ever i lived in bradford i mnet them i can say the most amazing musicians and people i ever met the only band which gave me shivers after 20 years
I saw NMA at different conzerts between 1990-1994 which made me always impressed, but the best concert I ever visit was that of Rockpalast in 1990 (Philipshalle Düsseldorf). I have never felt such an atmosphere on a concert like there. Thank you NMA, you're the best. ..and btw... Green & Grey ....best song ever ;-)
Save the Date! New Model Army will headline the Volk im Schloss Festival on Friday, 26. August 2016. It is a free festival in a small and beautiful location in Gross-Gerau, Germany (near Frankfurt).

Verdammte Hacke ist das ein geiler Text. Da können die Rolling Stones und die ganze plastik Popdreckswelt und sogar Helene Fischer aber sowas von Einpacken. Ha! Beat this!
question to all Germans, and why not anyone else, listening to this - what's the area, city, town with which you associate this song? It's written by a guy from Northern England and for sure as a guy from Northern Finland it sounds all too really familiar to me, but I'm really curious as to how it resonates with people from other parts of the world.
No clue. I’m just really curious about him. So many questions. And the most important: since the singer doesn’t seem to give a shit about that guy I assume it’s not the first time …. I would be distracted 🤣
***** : wohl noch nie n live konzert von NMA gesehen, oder...? da stehen immer 2, 3 und mehr auf schultern... ist sehr typisch für deren konzerte... aber das weißt du als großer fan ja bestimmt auch so....
A quick question to people who listen to songs about going far away and leaving it all who never actually went anywhere and did nothing with their lives what do you think when all these songs are basically alien to you..........did anyone ever write a song about poor little Johnny he did F all but sit on his boring arse in the same pub for 50 years and stagnate till his brain died?
a quick answer with several questions: is it always a choice to leave the place you’ve lived your childhood? Some have been hurt: family, so-called friends, school, « high »-school, sports, Saturday’s fights…are you sure the one who do «nothing » in those distant places would have done more in their home town? Sullivan’s song doesn’t judge the ones who have leaved: he knows their memories bring them where they were hurt, doesn’t he?
