Dude, great video! I loved the part where you said you were a bit out of breath but dropped straight back in! You’ve really got that kid energy!! Your technique whilst riding is great too! I’m from across the pond but your videos are just great viewing and I’m stoked to see what you’ve got planned next! All the best, Neil 😁👍
Hi Neil 👋 Welcome to the neighborhood 👊 Thanks for watching and leaving the encouraging feedback. I think I had excitement and energy from having so much fun in the moment, but that kid energy ran out quickly. It’s been a couple days since then and I’m still a little sore 🤣 Cheers 🍻
Love your Monza such a mint looking bike.. I am 57 yrs old and i just bought a 24 inch Dyno Compe.. I still love to ride but i sure do feel it a lot more... I wish we had such a great place to ride...
Awesome! The 24” is such a great size. How are you liking the Dyno? I had a 1987 (or 86?) Dyno D-Tour back in the day. If they ever release a blue 24” Dyno styled like that, I’ll buy in a heartbeat. Yes, I feel pretty lucky to have a spot like this relatively close. Thanks for watching and commenting 👊
@@TheNostalgicNeighborhood I am enjoying the bike as much as i did back in the day.. Just not going off any sweet jumps anymore i think im afraid to now lol...
52 year old here, looking to get back into BMX riding. I have a 24" Schwinn Pro Stock 3 BMX I need to restore/rebuild. That pump track looks like so much fun! Definitely gotta find a track and give it a try when I get the bike done. Looks like the bike equivalent of pumping around the kiddie pool at the skatepark, but a lot larger.
Well done !!! I also got to the pump track for the 1st time at age 52 and riding a SE OM flyer. Great experience and a bit more physically demanding than one would think with no peddling. Also have brought my old 24 Robinson Cruiser out and it is definitely a different feel than the SE 26. Fun but different feel. Keep up the great videos !
Thanks for the feedback!!! 🙏 Love those OM Flyers! I agree, it’s surprisingly demanding on the body. But lots of fun!!! I’ve only had my 24” on the track so far. I’m going take my 26” GT up there soon.
Dude, that pump track is amazing! I’d love to try it one day! It looks like a ton of fun and I’m so glad you got to try it out. I’m a goofy foot like you and I like my right foot in the forward position too when I’m in a place with little jumps and stuff. Love also what you did with the cover of the magazine! That’s so creative! This was another great video!! 🤙🏼
If your ever passing through the St. Louis area, hit me up and we’ll ride it. Thanks for all the feedback and encouragement. I had a lot of fun trying to figure out how to make that magazine effect work. It was more work than I imagined and it’s not perfect, but it was a fun exercise 😎
I love the GT PRO PERFORMER!!! I bought the neon orange one, while I was waiting to get the fast ripper. Because I was seriously wanting to ride a 29" bmx bike.
@@BUILTLIGHTWOUNDTIGHT Interesting. I recall seeing a sticker saying the neon colors may fade. But I hadn’t heard of anyone experiencing this. Still an awesome bike, I’m sure 👊
I smash laps on my 24 on pump tracks way faster than my 20 inch, but my 20 is a full freestyle and the 24 is an alloy framed race bike. They built like 6-7 in my city in the past two years
I love that there are apparently a lot of guys around my age getting back into BMX! I ride road bike and some mountain, but have been wanting to get back into BMX for a while. I love the look of this bike as it reminds me of the bikes we rode in the 80's. I had a Diamond Back Viper that I got in 1983 and I put some serious miles on that beauty. This bike seems pretty legit. Thanks for the videos, and great job on the track. Out of curiosity, how tall are you? Just trying to gauge the bike size with the rider. Thanks!!
Thanks! I hear you on the tires. My other BMX bikes have smooth tires. But… for variety, I love the knobby tires on this bike. Feels and sounds more like how I remember my first BMX as a kid. 👍
can one use a cruiser like the Avenger from WTP 27'5 for workouts? I want one bike for cruising to get to places in town but also to exercise as a middle age guy.. I just found the WTP Avenger 27'5 inch for 912 dollars... what do you think?
I’m not too familiar with that bike, but it sounds like a blend of MTB and BMX and looks like it would be great for your purposes. If you care more about functionality than nostalgia, having the disc brakes and other features would be nice.
@@TheNostalgicNeighborhood I see, it got some kind of disc brakes... WTP (We The People) Avenger 27'5 inch, it is this bike I am considering: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--OiXp-Of3ws.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7yqpY_Tow8s.html what do you think, they want about 1045 dollars for it right now, where I found it. Do you think it is worth the price? Thanks for getting back!
So as you know Ive been looking to get back into this but on a budget. Last night I went to Redlines website and they have their Redline Asset 24" on sale for $287 and its full chromo. Could I get your opinion on it first before I buy? My other option Ive been thinking about doing is just doing a full build starting with the frame and building over time.
If you’re on a budget, that bike seems like one heck of a value for the price!!! You could spend $400-$500 to get a budget 24” Race Inc. or Haro. But they won’t be much better than this (if at all). This Redline has single wall rims, but the rest of the materials all seem good on the bike. Maybe some cheaper and no name parts, but they seem really good for the price. You’d probably need to spend twice that to get another bike that’s significantly better. But I guess that reflects the 50% discount on their site. I’d say go for it 👊
Going next weekend to hit this pump track in Kenetic. Going to be trying it out for the first time. I am trying to get my own bmx bike. What brand should i get for my first bmx bike? Im looking for about a 24-26 inch.
Right on!!! Choosing a bike is so subjective to your budget, riding style, preferences for old school vs new school looks, etc. I made a video about things to consider. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gV5kdNi_t64.htmlsi=vU-zSxZNUGCIt2A3
It’s comparable in looks and spirit, but the Pro Raider had 20” wheels and this has 24” Wheels. This one has modern components, but is built to give off 80s BMX vibes like the Pro Raider. So while not directly comparable, if you’re looking for an old school vibe on a chromoly 24” frame but with modern technology… this a great choice.
If you’re just mostly going to be casually riding on a smooth trail for longer distances, I’d go with the 26” or 29”. I love my 24”, but find myself riding my 26” a lot more on casual rides.
@@stebensbobby To be honest, I’ve never ridden a 29”. I feel like the 26” is a great size and I feel like anything bigger would feel less like a BMX to me. But that’s just me 👍
I’m 5’11” too. The bike has a longer top tube of 22.5 inches making it feel a bit roomier. But yeah, it really depends on if you want a ride that’s more lively/responsive or if you want to do more casual long rides. I have a 26” that I take on long multiple-mile rides, but for shorter rides (or taking it up to the pump track), I LOVE this 24”
@@TheNostalgicNeighborhood Thanks, dude! Sounds good. I ride my MTB for longer rides for fitness and would love one of these for fun and try and learn to trick, lol. Appreciate it!
I’m 5’10”. This one has a 22.5” top tube that makes it super comfortable for my size. Out of the 20”, 24”, 26”, and 27.5” bikes I own, the 24” is my favorite size to ride 👍🏼
Great vid . I also like your Gt vid. I bought a 26 haro master because of it .i had a haro sport when i was a kid . Im now thinking of buying a 24 inch but cant find any one in a store . You should do a comparison video
Thanks so much! Wow, I'm stoked that you got the 26" Haro to reconnect with the sport you had as a kid! Yeah, the 24" size are a little harder to find. Not exactly a comparison video between those sizes, but I did create a video about how the style of riding impacts the choice of what style of bike to get, wether it's meant for cruising or getting a little more aggressive. I feel like this Monza 24" is a good balance between the two.
Hi! I'm 5'11" and it feels great t me. Sizing is a little subjective depending on your riding style, but likely it would be a great size for you too. This has a slightly longer top tube of 22.5", which makes the bike feel a little roomier. But yeah, it probably depends on whether you are looking to just cruise around or be more nimble/aggressive. There are tall guys who totally rip on 22" bikes, but they probably don't use those for casual rides around the neighborhood. 24" is a great compromise between a smaller bike and a larger cruiser for my personal style.
If you don’t mind me asking how tall are you and what weight are you? Ballpark. I’m curious as I have been looking at this bike to go riding with my son so I’m watching different videos as size comparisons etc. do the mag wheels hold up well?
Line tip for a lil’ hip transfer: at 03:56, launch off that hip (corner-exit) into the outside (right) line, first at the stripe, then bringing it back toward the white arrow - land on the downhill - it should be good for a “goofy” rider too! Low in the center of that corner lines you up for a bigger boost. 😃 Keep at it! 👍
Wow, thanks for the tip. I see what you’re saying here. I probably need a little more speed to clear that area and land on the downside, but that’ll definitely give me something to play around with and work on. Much less intimidating than some of those bigger jump areas too. Thanks for the encouragement, I really appreciate it 👍
@@TheNostalgicNeighborhoodthe beauty of the hip is, at the bottom it’s a 0 - 1’ gap, halfway up it’s 1’ to 2’ gap, and from there jumping from inside the corner gets you gradually to approx. the distance of a roller-gap. Built-in progression! 😃👍
need to shift weight about as you woopdedoo way more graceful but all i do is ride i have a nicer bike, its sleeps in a climate controlled cube but im homeless, all my friends are poor or dont give a care to hear all that problems shit i have 3,500 in my pocket from swinging nugs and all the places I call to rent nobody speaks English viva mexico , but buy chinese , i'm a silly asshole who has to do quick thinking tricks to survive, holy shit I'll race you around that silly track for $3,500 Maybe I can live and grow weed in your shed anyway kind of a nice ride , nice mags , very nice crib this dude is reliable and has his priorities straight im learning its about reliability reliable
I've been mountain biking for 4+ years now. I was 41 when I started. It's been a fun journey! I've taken my full sus trail mountain bike on pump tracks and skate parks but it just doesn't feel quite right. Too big, clearly. I've been thinking about getting a 26" dirt jumper but after watching a few of your videos, I think this bike would be better. I don't do tricks but I love jumps. I'm 6'-4" so a 20" BMX bike feels way too twitchy. I appreciate what you're doing on your channel. 🤘
Awesome dude I watched your first edit again about twenty minutes ago when you built the monza and I was thinking...can't wait for the next part and here it is!! ..magic!!
Thanks so much Stuart. That’s pretty incredible timing 🤯 I had a lot of fun making this one. I feel like it’s my best video yet. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Thanks! 🙏 Very cool that you’re having fun skating the pump track! I got some Powell Peralta Dragons formula wheels a couple weeks ago, thinking they’ll be perfect for cruising on this track too 👊
Man, it sure looked like you were having a blast. It's amazing how winded you got without hardly peddling, just from using your arms and legs as shock absorbers. They don't have any tracks like that, or (in my wildest dreams) skate parks around where I live. I'm 58 and if they had a skate park around here, they'd probably find be in the bottom of the bowl with a broken spine.
Yes, the pump track is fun, but it sure does use different muscles. The shock absorbing part, is when you go up a hill, and then you’re pushing down with your arms and legs as you’re pumping down the other side. Sort of like how you gain momentum on a swing. I think it’s the pumping down more than the absorbing up that really winds you. Super fun though. Hope you get a chance to try it someday. 👍
Hi Aaron 👋 Thanks for the kind words and encouragement. I really appreciate it! Yes, the Monza definitely screams old school, especially with the Skyway mags 👍
This is so true!! It's going to take a while to build up the muscles to not be completely gassed out after making a few loops in a row around the track. But good exercise indeed!
Loving the 80s-ish tunes and that animated magazine cover is a nice touch as well. Seeing this makes me want a skatepark and pump track in my nostalgic neighborhood!
Thanks so much for watching and leaving feedback. I had a lot of fun making the magazine cover, it’s not perfect but I’m just figuring this stuff out as I go along and called it good enough. I had fun coming up with the fake article headlines for the cover 😂 Yes, I’m lucky to have these in the area. Maybe they’ll build one in your area soon 👍
Awesome!!! I’ll be 50 this year, so I’m not far behind you. That 94 Pro Series sounds cool!!! Thanks for the feedback, and good luck with the rest of your build. I’m sure you’re gonna love riding it 👊
I ordered a 26 Monza. Not impressed at all.. The pedals are made from weak steal. I can bend them with my hand. The crank makes noise. The chain makes noise when you put power through the crank. It came damaged in the box. The box itself was perfect. The damage gouged into the chrome. There is much better choices out there. Think I'm going to return it.
I’m really sorry to hear that. With respect to the damage in the box, I don’t think that’s common, I’m sure if you reach out to Monza, they’ll make it right for you. I haven’t had any issues with my pedals being weak. From what I hear in the Monza user group, the creaking on the cranks isn’t too uncommon, just needs a little grease on the spindle when you’re getting everything set up. I’ve got no issues with mine. But it sounds like you’d be happier with something else at this point. If you don’t mind, let us know what you go with. I recently built up a 26” Hutch Hollywood. A bit more expensive than a Monza, but I’m loving its geometry compared to my 26” GT Performer.
@@TheNostalgicNeighborhood I find they Monza are terrible at getting back to customers. It took 4 emails to get replacement stickers that were damaged. I've asked to return the bike. With no response. I think they are waiting for the 30 days to pass. A real Micky Mouse operation at Monza.
@@TheNostalgicNeighborhood what do you think of Race Inc 26R thinking of ordering one... I don't even care if I keep the Monza It is cool. Thanks for the interaction
@@sturomain I haven’t seen one in person, but they have a good reputation. That bike has good components for the price, including Redline flight cranks. It’s an aluminum frame. Depending on how you look at it, that can be a pro/con, but wouldn’t be a deal breaker for me.
