Id do my chips in the air frier, chicken in the oven , chop some chillie n fry the onion n peppers in pan 5 mins before its ready then toss it all together with the seasoning and itll be alot crispyer lol 👍
Love salt and chilli fries, I use the seasoning from home bargains and bung the fries, onion and peppers all in the air frier with a good coat of seasoning. Superb with a cold beer
Fetched my Mayflower curry sauce out of the ice cube tray, then defrosted and it was lovely. Know what to with leftover sauce now. Thanks for recomending it Gareth. It would be great on your chicken and chips tray. B.
A very popular dish from chippies, in my native land across the Irish Sea, is the Spice Bag. All sorts deep fried veggies, chips and spices with fried chicken. This is an attempt to recreate that in your own kitchen. Hmm... Is it as good as your typical cod and chips? ☺️
A decent deal. The prepared meal looks as appetising as the Serving Suggestion!😃 If you find it needs a bit more heat, try a *little* Tabasco. Mix in well!
@@eadweard. Snap! I've just stocked up in Chinatown. Ever tried Kucharek? It's the Polish equivalent of Marigold vegetable bouillon powder, but with msg. Can't help dipping my finger in it and licking!.
Hi Gaz - i would've cooked the fries on a separate tray until towards the end. Apart from soggy it did look like it tasted delicious. I now love Aldi, although I've never been! Thanks to your sterling work...
Ok Gareth im going to blow your mind here, when they say turn halfway through they mean the tray so the heat distributes equally. You don't need to stir.
now they really want you to work out the amounts. with a separate weight for the 4 items. which is good. but you have to remember that the % are out of each item amount and not the whole. 749g 320g chips 260g chicken 150g veg 12g salts. the veg is only onion red and green peppers. so for £4 is it still worth it. the most expensive is the chicken, but if you can get it from xsell in Heron for around £1.50 for 400g its not like it is hard to do. I still think we could come in under the £4 budget to make
Looked really tasty and your facial expression when you tried it said so! Having said that and you mentioning the veg making the chips a bit soggy makes me think that if I get one, I'll use two trays and keep the chips, and the Chicken and Veg, separate and mix them just before adding the seasoning. So thanks for yet another great review, and adding a new dish to my 'suppers after a bevvy' list! lol
The Left Handed Cig channel. Try a tin of Stagg Chile with Aunt Bessie's Yorkshire Puds. A fine fine combo for bedsit folk and Baby Bellings. Well it was.
through some curry sauce over and it will be spot on, im off to aldi to get one of these boxes and the Southern fried chicken munch box you just reviewed
Never had salt & pepper chips with five spice mix in my area, only get it with chopped red chilli and salt and onion, tastes great 😃 make my own sometimes dead easy yum yum 😋
Supermarket's are getting better and better with these takeaways. Apart from the Donner if you're having a Donner it's got to be a full on dirty one from the local takeaway 😂🍻🥙 Cheers Gareth
I got this from Hearon food on the clear out section for around £3. I ended up deep frying my chips and chicken to give them some cripsyness. To much for one meal so had to split into two meals.
That looks interesting. We don't have the chicken and chips concept here except in freezer meals like Hungry Man or kid's meals. The Hungry Man meals are always soggy after coming out of the oven. We buy the Fries (chips) and chicken separate and air fry them to get them nice and crispy. We Americans tend to dip chicken and fries into sugary sauces like sweet BBQ, ketchup, etc. but I prefer a vinegary hot sauce like Louisiana sauce, with garlic and pepper seasoning on the fries (crisps).
I would have started on a hot tray to get those chips defrosting quicker and the moisture evaporating away. Also having frozen chicken & veg on moist chips instead of sitting directly on a hot tray is a bonkers cooking suggestion. Onions are full of liquid so that was never going to help crisp up anything on that tray.
I was going to say because at my local Chinese the salt and pepper dishes don’t taste like 5 spice. I wondered if it was different up north as lot of takeaway food is.
I would substitute the bell peppers for jalapeno and chili peppers, like you I'm not a fan of those and neither is my wife,we always ask for our takeaway without them,I do like salt and chili chips with mine as well so might just try that Gareth, another good one big pal
It coulda been a contender Gareth, but they gave the wrong instructions 😢 This is to me,a cook all separately or at least on a larger tray. Then bung it into a large bowl add the seasoning and TOSS NOT STIR😊 However that said it looked not to bad.And a fair price One for the short list ❤❤😊 Carry on Allan&Family
I think you still have quite a long journey before you get your first Michelin star Gareth but keep up the good work 👍. These videos are almost as good as Fawlty Towers😂
Chicken nuggets and chips with a bag of spice and 150g of chopped onion and peppers. You could buy those ingredients separately and save money, £4 is a lot for what you get here and to be honest not that much more work or time! Normally you add spice seasoning at the beginning and cook with it, not add it at the end! Learn to cook and prepare food yourselves people! You’ll get better quality and value for money!
Evening Gareth a thought it looked pretty decent to be fair and for the price also was ok.would definitely be a tasty treat when you’ve got home from the boozer after a few Jars! Enjoy rest of your evening 🙂👍🏻
I hope your dog bowl was hot otherwise the meal would end up cold. I'll carry on making my own I reckon using Chinese sauces and my woks. Still, looks quite good and you says it tastes good so that is useful to know. Were there choices of different foods in that range?
Best thing you have made as you can claim you cooked and constructed it technically😂 It really looks better then my local takeaway and the chilli flakes are a good call
id rather buy a bag of fries a bag of battered chicken pieces and a bag of chargrilled veg mix , but its all about not having to buy an excess i suppose
35 minutes for oven chips is way too long, regular ones take 22 minutes, bloody disgrace. Try a trip to sainsbury's for the aunt bessie oven chips as they were £1.90 with a nectar card or iceland were doing the 5 minute oven chips for half price, they were quite nice.
Hi Gareth, I like the look of that, it's a must the next time I go to Aldi,. I think it is a sharer half for you and half for your self🤣🤣I know what will go with that is some melted cheese, as always you are making me hungry, Take care👍👍
I'm thinking you could very easily create that yourself because it's basically chicken nuggets and chips you can buy the spice ready made in a grinder mill a bit of onion and pepper job sorted
I would not use the cooking instructions on the box. Instead, I would cook the chips, chicken, and peppers/onion separately. Otherwise the chips can be soggy, the onions are never properly cooked, and the chicken isn't crispy.
I have never seen this in any Chinese takeaway in the US,though buffets sometimes have fries for children. It's rather dry for me,I would prefer the infamous General Tso's Chicken which is apprently an American invention.
Great review Gaz that looks pretty delicious if I say so myself it’s a good job I am off to Aldi tomorrow but I think I will cook the chips and chicken separately so they both go crispy and my mouth is watering 👏👏👍👍
Nah - looked too soggy for me. Never had Salt & Pepper chips from a take away - video mentioned having Chinese 5 spice flavour ...so are the salt & pepper chips not exactly that? Never fancied pepper on my chips but if they have Chinese 5 spice which I love then that's a different story. Have I understood that right?
