Come on people!! Use some common sense and basic math. If you want a quicker street car, then the 3.73 gear is the way to go and if you want a highway car that gets a little better fuel efficiency and a tiny bit more top end then get the 3.55.. There is no debate it is math .
Wouldn't it be lower top speed, because of the dif ratio making the car go through the gears quicker resulting in quicker acceleration and a lower top speed and vice versa if the dif ratio is longer i.e. 3.73
08turboSS What are you talking about? Both cars were tune/exhaust 2012's. The 3.73's car was putting some pretty good distance on the 3.55. The overall wheel/tire diameter of both cars would be roughly the same, with the brembo car (3.73's) having a 27 inch tall tire (255/40-19 tire) and the 3.55's car actually having a slight advantage in that category. If it has 245's on the 18 inch rims, it has a 45 aspect ratio, 245/45-18 is 26.7 inches tall.
And to FLCpe, one car length is front bumper of slower car in line with rear bumper of faster car. This run has a full 1 car gap between the two cars, that's 2 car lengths for the winner, not 1.... Plus full exhaust & a tune is going to make more hp than a tune, x-pipe, mufflers... 3.73's are equal to adding 25hp vs stock 3.31's
If both cars have the same tune, same octane? The 3.55's car would only have a few seconds of an advantage at the top of 5th (3.73's car has to grab 6th while the 3.55's car is still climbing in 5th - but the 3.55's car would spend some of that time at the top of 5th overtaking the 3.73's car, which would already be ahead at that poiint) but once both cars are in 6th gear, the 3.73 car will still win, eventually.
Yes, factory tire 245/45/R17. Well according to this allfordmustangs DOT c o m/Detailed/608 DOT shtml with Tremec TR-3650-3 TCET1789 spec at 160 5th grear rpm will be 4843 so it should do this as the engine in those cars goes almost up to 7000rpm.
Can't see the $3000.00 Performance PK Just for 3:73 rear and extra 2 more disc on the already great 4 piston Brembo's from the factory. But I can see the 3:55 rear. I had a 5.7 LS1 Firebird Formula with a 6 speed manual and a 3:42 rear. This machine's numbers all matched up for street daily driver to strip high 12+ ...
Could you give me an advise? I have 01 Cobra modded (no sc) 400HP+. I have stock 3.25 and I can do 160. Here in Europe I often drive at full speed but I want the car accelerate better as it's no good especially 3rd gear at lower speed. I am about to put 3.73 but I don't want to lose 14mph! Maybe that loss won't be as much as I have different transmission, differ, engine etc? Or I will lost that 14mph and the best option for me is 3.55? but 3.55 is not much difference comapring to stock 3.25
I know this comment is old but for people reading this in the future I'm gonna chime in. if you want to keep major top end like 160 just stay with the tall gears and don't mess with it. if you wanna be several tenths faster in the quarter with much better acceleration in day to day traffic and a much better feel while still being able to do 120+ get 4.10+ gears in that cobra. you can get 456 and still do close to 120 with stock height tires. that is in 4th gear you can put it in 5th and still get to 150+ with 4.10+ gears and it'll pull fairly well in the overdrive 5th gear with those lower gears much better than it does in that gear with stock gears. if you want to do pulls to 160 keep stock gearing and add a blower if you wanna be faster.
www.edmunds.com/ford/mustang/2012/coupe/st-101369166/features-specs/ you could get 3.55s or 3.73s from the factory in 2012, look under optional mechanical features...
I am about to purchase a 2017 Mustang GT with the added 3:55 rear option over stock 3:31 but after watching video not sure if I just want to save $500.00 and go with the 3:31? I just drove a 2017 Camaro 2SS with an 8 speed automatic and it would shred any of this Stang's. But is a solid $7000.00 difference and with that savings I could put a Roush Supercharger, Header's and Cat-Back Exhaust and Dyno tuned for around $10,000.00 on the other hand if I had a large cash flow coming my way. The 1SS with 8 Auto and a Magnuson Supercharger with a properly Dyno Tune job and mathematically exhaust with long tube headers would put this Super Sport in the ranks of Super Car's that costs 4 times as much even after upgrades ..
Aresfire2 Stock for stock yes the new ss will win but..I have an 11 stang and friend of mine has a 16 ss. He won when we were stock. Now we both have FBO and I win by 1-2 cars length everytime. We gain more in the end so it depends what you want. I do also have suspension on him however we mainly do 2nd and 3rd gear rolls up to end of 4th for me.
You wouldn't even need to do that much to the GT. The difference in times is within 10ths of a second. Gearing, some bolt-ons, and exhaust would make that time up in spades, and be less thank $3,000.
You would lose about 1- 1.5 miles per gallon. Maybe what 5/10mph maybe a little more. But you will get there a lot faster. Has far as top end all out 1 mile or longer. Ask yourself this just how often do you go all out. More then likely not to often, most of us don't.
