People that pay $300 on eBay for this have more money than sense.

Not noticing any lag... wait until you try defeating mr dream in punchout, doing jumps in ninja gaiden later levels or tricks in megaman.

Could some of the Nintendo Apologists explain why Nintendo is able to ship millions of copies of Pokemon to every store but for this thing each store only got 3 at most? Could you also explain why Nintendo's announcement email was sent out exactly 15 minutes after every online store instantly sold out? Could you also explain why some sellers on Amazon have dozens of units for sale? Also could you tell me the name of the person who's decision it was to limit availability of this product? Thanks!

I got lucky and scored one on the last day of Walmart's online flash sales. 2 days later, I got an email saying it was delayed, but not cancelled. Waiting for it to ship before Christmas.

We did get to pre-order the console here in Europe. I ordered it day one and got a message from the store (Smyths Toy Store) to come pick it up on release day. I also headed into Gamestop on my way to the store and I picked up a second controller. There were only 7 available above the ones that were pre-ordered in the store. So I was lucky I went in there first.

I can finally play these games in HD and French! I wish I had one...

Jon, Nintendo has done the low stock deal going back 30 years. This was their sales strategy back then, and it's back again!

Nitpick time..it's "Tecmo Super Bowl", not "Super Tecmo Bowl"! And yeah, I think the reason why the original Tecmo Bowl is on there instead of TSB is because all the player names were removed in this version...with TSB that likely would've been too much work since team names had to be removed too.

I really like the menu and the selection of games. An option to download other games would've been perfect.

gamers need to be patient. they will have stock eventually. don't pay 200 300 for a hype system. not worth it. ridiculous

I like the CRT filter personally. Makes it look more like an authentic experience.

Nice detailed review John! I think the short controller cords and it only coming with one controller is a deal breaker for me! A shame they wouldn't have it set up to use original NES controllers!

Getting another Stadium Events might be easier then finding one of these.

took me a bit over 1 month to track one down, and the pal version, keep in mind, it is imported so shipping and customs were involved, as well as cut for the seller, ended up shelling $116 for it, still reasonable since no way will i ever find one cheaper ever here....btw, no charger in it :)

I'm thinking about using one of these as a case for a rasberry pi. Go the CRT filter!

Thanks to Nintendo only giving stores 4-5 units, watching this video will be the closest I come to one until January.

If you go with Raspberry Pi, I highly recommend tryijng out the Retro Pi distribution. It has a great menu system for many retro systems and computers.

Still wouldn't mind getting one at some stage, but still yet to see any in stores, there was another lot listed on one of the online retail sites here recently, but they sold out in minutes. I will look at getting one when I see it on a physical shelf.

Try showing the 3 different screen filters one at a time. I couldn't see enough to make out what's different

It is strange that the version we go tin Australia has no poster and a different box art. I would have loved a poster. Also no AC power brick.

The lag would depend more on your display than the hardware itself. NES emulation probably isn't demanding enough to introduce that much lag all by itself. I'd definitely say that if you're going to get one of these, you should probably hook it up to a computer monitor rather than a television. HDTVs have way too much lag... and besides, you'll have to sit pretty close to it anyway. At that distance, a 24" monitor should be big enough.

How do you guys always manage to nab the stuff that's always sold out in 5 minutes kind of thing or the pre-orders that last 30 seconds. I try signing up for every notification I can find and I'm never notified until a few days later when it's too late if I get any notification at all. I know this NES probably isn't as bad but some things in general like PSVR or the GTX 1080 when it released, just seems the odds that anyone is lucky to just happen across the sale and buy it before it's sold out is like hitting the lottery..

Amazing how many people don't seem to understand what Nintendo is doing here in terms of stock levels. It's a very simple marketing technique and is old as the hills! Very limited initial supply to create hype and gauge level of interest and then 2 - 3 weeks before Christmas the stores will be packed with these things. Just wait a few weeks! There will be plenty enough available and probably in all different cute colours so people will buy 8 of them!

Feel like we got robbed here in Europe, we never got that poster, instead we got an instruction manual in several languages. We also never got a plug. we did get the USB cable but I'm guessing they knew everyone would have a USB plug given that most mobile phones use them.

Love Tecmo bowl opened the game 2 weeks before Christmas my parents had no clue lol. Problem now, is it's too easy vs cpu. A great 2 player game imo.

I know ,I am not the only one thinking but Xbox & PlayStation need to jump in on the retro market like Nintendo imagine? a Xbox mini classic or a PlayStation 1 mini classic with 60 build in game's and only $49.99 plus 2 controller's they would kill the market for sure I know I would buy it!!!!! I just want that for the Mini NES case for a pi,probably mess around with the 30 games for a while though. How much can you 3D print a mini NES case. Also is it just me or is this a more critical review then some of those shovelware hardware, I like it!

Nintendo dropped the ball w/this thing. Great presentation but more minuses than pluses. There's no reason why the chords need to be so short or proprietary & not giving you an option to chose to not limit the amount of sprites on screen means you're gonna get flickering which should be a no-no nowadays.

or you can just get Raspberry Pi 3 and use it to play game (up to PlayStation 1) and it turns your tv into smart tv

Great review, and congrats on getting one so fast! :D Don't be too hard on Nintendo for not producing enough of these systems out of the gate. Many companies do this to create that false sense of desire - primary example being Apple. I do think there is another reason for this, though, and that is that a small initial production allows for any major, or minor, issues to be flagged before too many units are produced.

I was interested in getting this as a present for my girlfriends son for Christmas but now I don't care about it anymore... Nintendo dropped the ball along with scalpers on this thing.

Be nice to be able to but the shell and mount a pi in it also does the controller work on the Wii?

It is really cool I preordered mine but what isn't is you getting the plug and poster. I understand the issues with different European plugs. £50 and I need to buy or have my own connection to the wall socket...But the poster could have been included. The whole "where are they wtf is happening" situation definitely isn't cool: unless you are one of those making easy cash off the scarcity. I do hear on here and in general it will be restocked but where are they, why are they not releasing loads for days like today? Sigh

Help and Advice please : I almost purchased one of these today as I found a local store with 1 left but I decided not to and looked into handhelds and clones.. what would you recommend as a low cost nes to play roms only (no cartridges) the flash cartridges are expensive.. any advice will be handy.. thanks..

By the way is there an emulator that displays box art like the user interface for this classic?

While I like the games that are on this classic plug and play the majority that are listed I already own cartridge based plus I have a retron 3 with 100 games in my personal collection. Still those Nintendo wise guys should have made more units and not leave us Empty handed.

I personally don't think it's Nintendo not selling units, I think it's greedy people buying them by the bunch & reselling them on EBay for more than what they are worth. But Awesome Review though can't wait to see who will hack this mini Nintendo.

I don't understand why the collectors that have ALL this games in original carts (even CIB) turns crazy to get this thing, even paying 3 to 5 times the original price. I have all this games CIB, I don't need that toy.

It's not a conspiracy. It's Nintendo's standard modus operandi. They've been doing this for decades. Which means the absurd $200+ cost the vast majority of folks will have to pay in 2016 should be considered when reviewing the overall value.

It looks cool and it's definitely a great gedjet to own in your collection, but no double dragon 1 & 3,no donkey kong 2010 ,no donkeykong 3,no castlevania 3, no ninja gaiden 2 & 3? Am mean common nintendo, why bundlr the system with complete trilogy's??? Also why was there no wide screen filter in case you want to phill the entire screen? Also i found it very dissappointing that it has no composite out for older crt tv's. So to me it's hardly justifieble,hardly, since i own a powerpak.

Here in Germany on Amazon.de Marketplace someone sells the NES Mini for 15.000 €!!!! 😵 No one will buy it, that's for sure. But wtf..

Yah easy for you to say 'be patient' you got one!! I gave in and paid triple retail [good ol ebay] and although I feel shitty about that there just wasn't ANY I could find in South Florida. I work hard and long hours and could not check all the Walfart, Tagget, BestGoodbye and Gameslop stores everyday like all you chronics. When I did check ,they were always out and the employees told me I was like the 100th person that given morning/afternoon to ask. I was actually laughed at a few times. I gave in and did not want to wait weeks [if they even arrive] to get one. So it was a holiday gift to me. .I am sick and tired of hearing all you reviewers with all these youtube connections ,tell us to be patient when you already have one in your grubby little hands.
