My friend had a GTR R35. Tuned up to 650 bhp. Sh!t was serious when he said to wait for the oil temp to go up before he floored it. I have never had 10 seconds of adrenaline, laughter and tears streaming down my face like that. What a machine!
That is the big problem with the GTR, it isn’t a supercar, all the people who buy them have to tune them to even get close to a ferrari of lamborghini…
While the r35s design has definitely grown on me over the millions years it's been on the market I would love to see Nissan give the r36 a more retro inspired look like they have with the 400z. Bring back that 90s jdm feel 😍😍

i think the render looks amazing but i think Nissan will go for a totally new design like they did with every gen. they already dropped a modernized r35 that's why i think the r36 will look wayyyy different than the one we currently have.
@@omargeraldo3332 considering the 400z isn’t all that different from the 370z and the 370z not being that different than the 350z, I don’t expect the R36 to be an all new car. I don’t think that’s such a bad thing since the 400z will probably retain some of that old school driving pleasure and give some feedback to the driver, unlike many new cars today.
I love the GTR and it will be interesting to see a reborn of the Godzilla. I would love if they still continue with the 6 cylinder concept. Can't wait!
I have had my R34 GTR V-Spec UK car for 18 years, love it, quadrupled in value over the years, still a classic that the 35 and this 36 will never get close to.

10:47 Well, if the Honda NSX had its engine power going to the rear wheels and the electric motor up front, that would be because it has a mid mounted engine, meaning there is space for that electric motor under the bonnet. It would be very difficult to fit both an ICE and an electric motor in the front of the GT-R R36, and also causing some weight distribution problems.
@@rtorbs If there is a car with an ICEngine in the back or middle, that means that there is space for an electric motor in the front part of the car, inbetween the front axle. If a car has an engine in the front though, there is little space to fit an electric motor at the same place. Also, adding an electric motor to the front would allow for 4WD to an originally RWD vehicle.
Really like the new Z and i hope Nissan would do the same when designing the R36. A call back to the R34 or R32 would be awesome. Definitely don't like the render from carwow team.
My fave might be the second gen from the early 70’s. It had more of a muscle car look, sort of like the Fairlady. It also had a lot of design cues still found in the R35, like the quad round tail lights.
I worked for Datsun, actually the last Datsun in Minnesota. I always wondered why Nissan didn't do this what they did with the GTR to the Z.? I always will believe the Z deserved the world class sports car status. Just asking and wondering. I love the GTR but had a 240 and always been in love with them to date.
Most of JDM cars are more focused on their cheaper and road efficient line rather than their performance line, we can see a lot of JDM cars faded or disappeared along the years. RX of Mazda, Lancer of Mitsubishi, S2000 of Honda. It is sad but its good business. Only Toyota managed to develop new performance line since their market share is much higher than other JDM brands. Good to see the new 86 and Supra back on the streets.
Honestly, I think the 240z was geared to be the Japanese Corvette. That gas crisis in the 70's killed what i think what Datsun was trying to do with the 240z. Dont get me wrong the 280zx etc are very nice cars but things were different after that major hit. To this day I want to build a 240z with the unlimited swaps, in my opinion is the Ultimate Japanese sports car of its time. Hell the GTR back then was a coupe.
Front looks good, the side view where the two lines cross over im not sure about but i really dont like the rear end or the way the rear part of the roof meets the body,its a no from me,needs a redisign imo
The tail lights and wing is savage, but with the 400z being one of the coolest looking cars I’ve seen in years I would like to see some wider body design maybe rear vents on the wheel arches and thicker fins on the diffuser. The front needs to say “ R36” in a way that doesn’t feel like an upgraded “R35”
I went in 850hp R35 for my matric dance/Prom. I always loved the GTR but that day cemented my love for the machine. Personally I really want a R32 but I'd take any one to be honest
I own a R35 and absolutely love it. The refinement with power is why I think its my favorite. It's still capable to dominate on the drag strip, circuit track, highway, etc against pretty much almost every other car. I can't say this for the r32, r33, r34. It seems as though they would have to be heavily modified to compete modernly while targeting a specific area to compete in. The R35 is the whole package that can do it all. I would still love to own a r33 due to the history and it represents my generation of owners.

The R35 is an absolute beast 😎👍. It is insanely quick for something that costs quite a lot less than something like a 911 Turbo S :). And let's not forget that earlier examples injured even Jeremy Clarkson :O. I just hope they still sell them over here in the UK

I owned a 1991 Nissan skyline R32 GTR coupe , gun metal grey full spoiler kit !!! Lol I’ve never been so excited then the day I went to purchase and bring that baby home. I saved so hard bought it cash for $11,000 back in 1998! It would be worth over $100,000 now. There was a stop sign or red light that is pull up to without someone wanting to give me a run for my money! I blew them off every time. I loved that car. Not one problem with it, best car I have ever owned, it looked after me and I cried when I had to sell it. Two babies in the back of a coupe was t ideal. At 270 hp that is nothing in todays market but it was fun at the time :)
I would like to see the R36 look more like that concept drawing that's been circulating around Instagram. It went back to its retro looks and was a combination of the R34 vibe. The thing was a beauty! Definitley ppl will buy since futuristic looking cars has been over saturated.
Every generation is beautiful, and I remember seeing the r34 in 2fast 2 furious for the first time, but god the first generation is drop dead gorgeous 😍

Forgot to mention when talking costs Porsche vrs GTR is the servicing intervals and reliability. It’s a pay as you go supercar, kind of like buying a printer cheap and ink needs to be replaced frequently costing money. Also it can compare to start stop repeatability of a Porsche. Still a great car but if you talk about it’s positives you should mention the negatives as well

R-33 GTR is my famous tbh. It's the most underrated. Not the best tech car when it came out or the best when it came to racing programs but it was the fastest production car on release and also looked nice
I remember the R32 was so successful in the Australian Touring Car series, that it copped a 200kg weight penalty, but _still_ embarrassed the locally made Holden and Ford sedans! As a result, the car was banned LOL (Well, they banned turbo charging and AWD, hence the Nissan got the boot).
I'm a Gen Z, but I grew up playing NFS MW and Street Racing Syndicate so my favorite GTR was the R34, but after seeing the older ones, my favorite is now the R32
My favourite GTR is the R32. It's one of my all time favourite car designs after the FD Mazda RX7. Both cars look incredible with some simple modifications. Obviously car styling is like any art form in that preferences are subjective, but I think the R32 is the best looking GTR and that they've progressively become uglier since then, this design of the R36 looks horrific to me, especially the back of it, no exception to the idea that they are getting progressively uglier. As others have noted, it would be cool to see an homage to their 90s styling, just as the Z harks back to it's earlier models.
im 14 and ofcourse a gen z teen but i do happen to like the nissan skyline gtr r34 since it's cool and looks slimmer, i liked it first before i even knew about the r35, because my dad introduced me and my brother to need for speed underground 2, im still playing it to this day, it's such a cool game, if you havent played it you should.
My favorite GTR has to be gen. 1 Hakosuka all the way ❤ But I would take any of the generations tbh. They're all amazing. I really don't like the rear of that R36 though. The rear lights isn't ugly, but they doesn't fit the design of a GTR
The problem is that the GTR has to compete with the new Corvette C8 Z06. It has 670 naturally aspirated HP and it isn’t nearly as heavy. The Z06 base price will be about half of what the current Nismo GTR costs. That is pretty stiff competition. Nissan is really having difficulty getting new electric cars out. The Ariya won’t come out till much later this year which is already two years late. An R36 GTR is MANY MANY years away if it ever happens.
Sorry haters, but the Corvette has traditionally been the best overall bang for the buck V8 powered sports car on the planet. Z06 takes it even further.

I grew up with the fast and furious. And I still love the r35 gtr more than the r35. I also think the r35 looks pretty good. Not perfect, but pretty close to perfect.
More widebody, R34 front lights, hardtop convertible, moon roof that opens up, t-top, call it Skyline so it can have in the back like the R34, butterfly doors, all right hand drive, stick shift no paddles, the trunk open like the 350z, back engine, screen like the gps on the 350z, lower like lambos n ferraris, v12 some like that would be a beast foreal i hope one day they do those so people can have diferent options for their prefrence

Very interesting! I agree with the “risk” of a hybrid GT-R. But when Matt talked about that, the 2 exemples he gave, the Acura and the Ferrari, both are MID ENGINE cars! And that’s my question: could Nissan go to mid engine design to better accommodate the hybrid system? Usually the electric engine powers the front axle and the combustion engine the rear axle!
Well you don’t have the cost variable in your thinking, the GTR had the moniker “super car killer” now if you do that it has become a super car itself and will cost $150k with a mid engine
It could and that would be cool, but at that point it would go against the ethos of a GTR. The GTR is supposed to be "for the people". The mid-engine layout would be tight and to cramped to work on, not to mention expensive. They'd be better making a hypercar like that, but as we all know the only hypercars now are EVs
@@MarMPB Very easily, just look at the new C63 AMG its going to have a 4 banger with a E Motor for low end Torque. Keeping the front engine layout and slightly modifying mass distribution.

The R36 concept art that Romanmiah did would be ideal inspiration for what the next GTR is. Take inspiration from the past while modernizing the car. Nissan did a good job with that on the Z and they should go the same way with the GTR in my opinion
Matt, you're scaring me describing the digression of the GTR. I do agree that the R33 GTR is the best of the RB GTRs. Lighter than the R34, and handles better than both the R32 and R33; and it seats 4 persons in great comfort, especially those in the rear.
10 months later & the official word from Nissan Japan is " We might see a new GTR R36 around the end of the decade & it will be a hybrid". So that's where it officially stands.
You missed out the R31 Skyline RS2000 which showed Nissan that there was a market for a hot Skyline and encouraged them to reintroduce the GT-R badge. There have been several Skyline generations without a GT-R variant and one generation that became an Infiniti instead. The GT-R separated from the Skyline family as an idipendant model with the R35, My favourite is the R33.
The problem with hybridization in the GTR is weight. It already weighs 3800 lbs, so add an extra 1000 lbs minimum and it will become nearly undriveable on the Nuremberg ring.
R36 got pushed back to 2028. They dropped the hybrid, will now be full electric with solid state battery. In terms of speed it will be in the league of Rimac Nevera. They want it to be the fastest street legal car in the world (not by absolute speed but by track times)
Seriously, I tried to take a good look at it, but my eye didn't know where to go. When I was a kid, I was able to draw my favorite cars. Now you have to take a CAD class.
Not sure if the headlights for the new R36 would comply with pedestrian safety regulations. If not, I have a feeling it'll look completely unlike this render from the front.
The R36 is going to be all electric NOT a hybrid. I know because I got selected for a focus group made up entirely of people who bought new r35s from a dealership. They kicked me out because I asked questions like. Why not a hybrid? Why full electric? An electric can't make it through more than 30-40 miles at track speeds, which is entirely what this car is supposed to be. Meaning they are making it full electric and they are ignoring anyone who thinks it's a bad idea even though most of the group thought it was a bad idea.
i know people are bored of the r35 nissan gtr but they have held their value remarkably well. i looked on autotrader and an early nissan gtr r35 is sitting around 35k minimum while the cheapest non crash damaged porsche 911 turbo of the time is about 42k. considering the porsche was near double the cost new thats a much smaller gap than id have guessed. if i had 50k to spend and could pick either car i would probably pick the porsche but thats only because its my favorite generation of the 911 turbo. if i was using my head i would pick the gtr because its a more realistic car to own and drive than a porsche.
