Many thanks. There are some really nice places in Tasmania which are accessible by bus. New Norfolk is one of those. Tassie bus travel is cheap.in 24/25. I have a video which explains in more detail how to use current bus services to get to New Norfolk. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LgAWXfaSE5E.html cheers Pete
Thanks for your feedback and support Joel. New Norfolk is a pretty interesting place to visit by bus. I am leaning towards mentioning and highlighting more pubs and breweries in videos. It sort of gives a different focus to the bus journeys. I will further test the concept by featuring more refreshment venues in forthcoming videos. The further emphasis of such venues may be popular ?
Ah those wonderful old railway stations. examples of preserved Tasmanian railway station are Transport Museum at Glenorchy - old New Town Station. Don Valley railway - Old Ulverstone station and in situ Penguin railway station. there are a few others as well.
Hi a very good question and apologies for the slow answer as I have been on a very long break. 1) If you board in Hobart direct to New Norfolk on bus routes X22 X23 or 722 you pay one fare all the way to New Norfolk. You can pay the driver in cash or you can use EFTPOS or a Transport Me card available from the operator. The Transport Me card gives you a 20% discount. 2) If you board a Metro bus in Hobart with the intent to then board a New Norfolk bus at Glenorchy bus interchange, this is a route 720 service, you must ask the driver of the Metro bus for a new Norfolk transfer ticket. He/she will sell you a cash ticket which will be cheaper than paying twice, once to Metro driver and then once to a New Norfolk bus driver. However not all bus drivers know about this, training of drivers has not been as good as it use to be and they may not know about the fare. In that case they will trust you and let you travel from Hobart to Glenorchy without a fare (you pay at Glenorchy), radio the depot for confirmation or insist you pay a fare. The latter does not tend to happen as Metro drivers are instructed to not pursue the collection of fares In summary I always try and catch the direct buses from Hobart to New Norfolk and back as these services are much faster and there is no complication about the fare.
Good to hear from you Josh. Re spread of bus service operating hours, I do mention it is about 8pm. I was thinking more about the last service from New Norfolk back to Hobart leaves 7:34 pm. Of course you are correct the last service of a weekday to New Norfolk leaves Hobart at 9pm, on Saturdays it is 8:20pm. I have never caught these night services to from New Norfolk. It might be fun to do during daylight savings hours.Tthanks for your support I have some footage of buses around Ulverstone which I hope to publish in the near future.
