I now don’t trust ASUS who are likely to bake in a gotcha. I recently got a PN53 ( ryzen 4x4 NUC like) to update my intel NUC. It can’t run headless and ASUS don’t have BIOS settings to stop the monitor check. They refuse to accept that should be changed (lazy tech). Very sorry I got ASUS

Congratulations on being a father, the best advice my father gave me, and one I share with new parents: * Don't try and be silent around your baby. It's tempting because you don't want to wake them, but you want to get them used to being around noise while they sleep so you can get stuff done. He advised doing vacuuming around my son, perhaps you can start a 1U server while your child is sleeping? :-) Aside from that? Less is more. You don't need all the things you think you need. Essential purchases? Get puppy toilet training pads, they make great disposable nappy changing mats (especially good when changing on the go or when changing an ass explosion). We also bought a bulk 12 pack of 70cm 'muslin squares', there are a thousand things you'll find uses for. They can provide a shade that can be clipped up anywhere, they can mop up body fluids, etc. My wife now uses them as a cloth when she works out!

Making noise while the little one is sleeping is critical. We had a busy city soundscape (with honking horns, clanks, etc at random intervals) playing in the hospital. We kept that up and now the kiddo doesn't mind noises when sleeping.

First, congrats again on the baby! Hope mom and him are healthy and doing well. Baby advice: treasure every moment, even the ones that aren’t so great. Everyone told me how fast they grow up but I didn’t internalize it in the same way as I have since. Even when our 3 month old spits up or there is a gnarly diaper change at 3am… I try to remember he’ll only be little like this once. It’s amazing to watch them grow up but also… it’s tough. NUC: these are awesome… I do sure some misgivings about Asus support , which is a shame because they do some very solid engineering work in general (not without their mistakes of course). I’m hoping we see them really work on providing great CS as it will push everyone to do better because asus is a market leader in several segments. Great video as always! Congrats again Patrick!

If stuff grosses you out, a baby will numb that REAL fast. Be prepared to do a LOT of laundry, CONSTANTLY. Spit up. Pee. Poop. It's all a part of the process. I used to put a burb cloth over my shoulder because it is a lot easier to change a burp cloth than it was to change my shirt. When you take the diaper off, since you have a son, do so VERY slowly. There's a theory that the cooler air will cause him to urinate without any control, so it will just happen. Expect/anticipate being peed on. It happens. No big deal. Explosive poops can happen. Don't worry about it too much. The first poops will be like an almost black, tar-like looking substance. That's normal. It will go away. But it means that it is sometimes, quite challenging to wipe off their tiny butt initially, especially if it goes up the back, and you're trying not to hurt them too much when you are holding their legs up and trying to lift their bottom by their legs, so that you can wipe/clean the back. They like snuggies with their parents. Some babies will sleep train faster and on a more consistent schedule sooner; whilst others may not. Our pediatrician for our first child told us not to "coddle" them too much when we are trying to get them to sleep otherwise that's the ONLY way that they'll be able to sleep. Early on, we used to have visitors wash their hands, when they enter our house, regardless of whether they're going to be holding the baby or not. And last but not least, it is perfectly okay to ask for help from friends, family, etc. You DON'T have to be super parents. Baby just need to be fed, changed, and loved. Early on, other than sleep deprivation; thankfully, they're not too demanding (most of the time).
@ServeTheHomeVideo
@ServeTheHomeVideo 3 месяца назад
Great advice. I am grossed out by stuff, but no problem with it apparently if it is my baby. Sleep training I cannot wait for

NUCs don't need Windows 11 Pro. They need linux. ;) As for parenting advice: you can save a ton on baby toys with a regulation football - they won't be able to chew it apart, and it can roll/bounce a million different ways to keep the kid entertained and confused much longer than any spherical ball, once their old enough to start moving around/interacting with the world. If you're super concerned about the firmer "pigskin" style, Nerf footballs also work, at least until teething era. Apart from that, don't spend money on new anything until they're talking. You'll save a ton of money, reduce landfill waste, and no one will remember or care. Also, when asking others for gifts/help/etc, focus on stuff that would make you as PARENTS feel relief. Again, the kid won't remember the extra trip through the park or fancy stroller, but every meal you don't need to make yourself, or room that someone else cleans while you're taking a nap is going to give you back energy to try to keep from drowning at work, and to actually do all the fun bits of parenting.

Great Video, and what an awesome father's day present if a little early! Parenting advice: Get that baby on a good sleep schedule as soon as possible. Obviously it's not going to happen right away. Months and months down the road, but if you do, you will have a much happier life. We didn't do this with the first, the second was into a good sleep schedule in less than 6 months, and it saved us so many late nights compared to the first one.

That way I could have a relatively quiet computer sititng in my network stack that I can stream games to using parsec or steam link to a handheld device like the retroid pocket or logitech cloud handheld etc. Or even stream it to a low power ultrabook so I can play some more intense games on a lower power computer.

First tip about being a father, especially a new father: You sleep when the baby sleeps. Period. End of story. Unless there's red (blood), black (bruises/internal bleeding/sepsis/infection), blue (not breathing), or a fire, EVERYTHING, and I mean, LITERALLY EVERYTHING else, can wait. I remember the early days, when tiny human #1 is born, you're going to burn through any excess energy that you might have "saved up". Your spouse/partner/gf will need your support and you can't be effective and efficient at it, if you're sleep deprived. Second tip about being the father (although a LOT of hospitals will teach this, but I'll say it anyways): If you're holding the baby and you even doze off for a split second (e.g. "go fishing"), put the baby in the bassinet/crib/baby box. It is VERY dangerous to fall asleep with the baby in your arms as they can slide/fall out of your arms. You might have been taught this by the nurses at the hospital before they even let you leave, but it doesn't hurt repeating it. Third tip: Your spouse/partner/gf, if they are nursing, will be more sleep deprived than you are (and you WILL be VERY sleep deprived). Volunteer to help initially, and then eventually, you might get into a rhythm where you will just take turns taking the shifts. Fourth tip: Work can wait. Being present and in the moment with your newborn son is time that you can't get back. There will ALWAYS be work. Your son WON'T always be a newborn forever. Cherish this time. The first three months will seem slow in the moment, but later on, and you reflect back, it will feel like it just flew by. Congratulations, once again! Happy early Father's Day!

What would be the cheapest /low power config for /pc/mini pc to get 10g via rj45 (connected to a router with 10g).. Just the cheapest computer to get 10g ? Any suggestions ? (thinking about mac mini but they still are expensive and mac is something i'd like to avoid). Not a super fancy pc, just one with 10g and can exploit it easily, No gaming etc on the pc.

They removed the best feauture which is why I went for Intel NUC's, Built in Consumer Infra Red(CIR) so we can use universal remote to power them on. Wish they would bring it back as I use my NUC as a HTPC under TV, Currently on 11gen NUC that has CIR and I use Logitech harmony to turn it on from full power off.

These seem awesome and hopefully ASUS performs a turn-around as far as consumer-facing stuff like RMA-handling so that good products are worth buying again. I've just seen so many kids basically destroyed by this in recent years, but any non-interactive media should be fully incidental. Kids watching shows with the family, with their people is just fine. Kids zombifying themselves on video content like the endless 24/7 dave & ava(about the most benign it gets) stuff ensures they undermine the foundational ability to understand that you can have positive worthwhile value, fun and interest, come of effort. Educational programming is useful and all, but educational interacting with the kid is better than anything else anyone can possibly do. My best experiences have been with simply playing relaxing classical music on the living room TV. Kids do a great job of catching vibes and that's a good vibe. Reading/looking at picture books together, amazing. Playing well-built games like Cats Love Boxes or old phonics games with kids, awesome. Pajama Sam, Freddy Fish, etc. are timeless classics. Just don't give into the impulse to be lazy. Every second you spend with your kid no matter your mood, no matter the "damn it I'm just so tired right now I want to put them on anything" will be rewarded and it is worth it with how much love kids show in return. Kids also don't actually get hurt that easily. Once the crawling starts and you've gotten rid of anything that could really really hurt a little fall here and there, food that's a little too bitter, a little too spicy, only a little too hot is exactly a learning experience. The grass outside and the carpet inside are great places to fall and even really young kids just love being outside basically as soon as they can move. It doesn't take much effort to keep track of a kid in a backyard and it doesn't take much effort to keep a happy kid moving. As a final note, the most important initial stage of socialization takes place somewhere around 1-3 years old and I think usually has up until around 2 and a half or so. Kids should play with other kids of similar age and really they need to even as babies and toddlers, otherwise their lifelong social outcomes are simply worse. It's exceptionally important and I dread what the lockdowns did to a generation of toddlers :(

I like ASUS and I have some of their hardware. But maore than $2K for a NUC is insane. Saying that I could build a machine for less than this really doesn't mean much when I know that people like Dell build full fledged workstations every day for much less than what ASUS is charging.

I wish they would design the higher-end NUCs to handle dust. My mums Intel NUC the heatsink got completely clogged and you have to dismantle the entire unit to get to the heatsink, making it impractical to clean regularly. I've bought the Akasa passive case for it, but not installed yet, I'm not convinced of its reliability as it relies on the motherboard screws to hold the CPU on the heat spreader, rather than the screws near the SoC. I can see it flexing over time making bad contact. According to Intel though the newer e-cores should be interesting, as they are claiming 38-68% IPC gains.

I assume he has 00001010 fingers and 00001010 toes? 😂 One piece of advice, try not to use simple words just for the little one. They will pick it all up, and it is hilarious when they use a diffucult word with their grandparents. Another advice, explain everything to your little one like you explain things to us. We are in total admiration, specially if we have no idea halfway through 😂 getting that reaction from your son will be amazing. Best wishes to the mother and enjoy it to the fullest. It goes faster than you think. Judo is perfect for balance, chess is great to do together and a great training for the mind.. and in about a decade and a half, see if you can get him in a ballroom dance course, that is perfect to learn to socialize. Thats about all for now 😂 back to restarting this content 😂

The thing wrong with those NUCs is Asus. They have been terrible on warranty. They have been providing Boeing levels of (lack of) quality.

I have been told that the New Lunar Lake Dev Kits, will be NUCs made by Asus. So it's great to see them having a very likely chassis for that. 48W of Noise... Is quite a lot :P

Baby tip: You've got 3 month now to arrange everything, create as much free time as you can in your life, calm everything down, surround your self (specially your wife since she will take the biggest hit) with support group and get used to sleeping with crying baby - in three months teething starts and this is where real stress begins :) And remember, for you as a father - having children is all about the logistics !

@@ServeTheHomeVideo Nope. with 3 behind the belt I can tell you that at 3 month (6 for some) mark the true hell starts - they live in constant pain so they cry for no reason. Get your self couple of brands of teething gels / powders and as quickly as possible figure out which one works the best, which one works the second best. Rotate what you've got, but keep the best for the super bad days. Also from medical stand point men and women have slightly different brain structure, hence women can survive for a year while having sleep so messed up that longest stretch of sleep is 40 minutes - you can't. Saying that everything will land on your shoulders. If there are any misunderstandings now, sort those out NOW before those will turn into major arguments (lack of sleep WILL do that to you and her). Things usually calm down at 9 month time and at 18 month you get quad whammy when the large back teeth come out. This period is rather short but our middle one nearly chocked to un-aliving them self while crying.

not trying to scare you - it's just after the first one I realised "yes this is what I did wrong, let's rectify that" and second and third went WAY smoother.

Dang, that N50 based unit is almost my dream firewall. I have an N100 unit with a fan that struggles a bit with my home internet it has a single internal M.2 and a bootable micro SD. if that N50 unit came with the larger heatsink and say, an N200 or N300 it would be all i would need up to 3 bootable deivces internally s a great plus because i might be able to get away with a 120GB optane drive for web caching. Also, thank you Intel for starting to rename Alderlake-N to Atom, i was REALLY upset with the atom based i3-N305. Its performance is great, the name is very misleading, when looking at everything but the CPU cores and GPU, it has worse features/specs than first gen core i3(ignoring the version differences), fewer channels of RAM, fewer PCIe lanes.

Wi-Fi module is not upgradeable on the NUC 14 Pro anymore! Pretty disappointing, as these NUCs tend to last a long time and it would have been nice to be able to swap to Wi-Fi 7 or 8 when available.
