It would have been incredible. AIC Unplugged is already amazing, but it would have been the cherry on top if it replaced the track "Killer is Me" with Rotten Apple. I would add that "Stay Away" would have also been awesome, but oh well. At least we can appreciate what we got.
I’m telling you I love this band hooked when I heard them saw the dirt tour listening to this thank you for putting this out if you have any mad season layne’s best work vocally my opinion but again thank you who ever you are
I wouldn’t say his underrated he’s pretty well known for being a really great drummer and he was in one of the biggest bands of the 90s. As big as it get in the drum world. He’s just never did flashy over the top playing because that’s not what AIC songs needed. He served the song.
First the Tiger Stadium footage, now this treasure of a video... this is turning out to be the most wonderful Christmas ever and it is all thanks to you. I'd already given up hope that we'd ever get to see footage from these shows which is why I consider this a true Christmas miracle and there are absolutely no words that could ever describe just how thankful I am! And what a video this is - getting to hear the acoustic version of "Rotten Apple" is something truly special and knowing this was their only show that year just makes it that much more precious! I'm overwhelmed with happiness! Thank you!
this really wasn’t that long ago if you think about it. giving up after less than 30 years for unreleased footage when it took the beatles over 40 years to release some.
Seriously, this is like the Holy Grail of AIC footage. Their only show in 1994 and probably the last time Layne was somewhat healthy on stage. I've heard audio of the actual set they performed that night but this footage of the rehearsal is nothing short of a revelation, never knew any of it existed. I'm glad we got one more album with Layne but this was essentially the end of prime Alice.
It's possible for demos. A lot of that record was co-written between him and Jerry, so it's entirely possible that Jerry and him jammed together stuff, musically, with Jerry playing guitar and him on drums, before coming up with the lyrics and melodies, before bringing them to the full band as completed songs. @@bls8959
Everytime some new AIC footage comes out it's like opening an old wound... Sometimes I even forget how good and unique their music really was... RIP Layne, forever missed but never forgotten
I saw Layne in a three piece suit at the start of their set on Lollapolooza in 93 and it was like 95 degrees that day! Needless to say he took the jacket tie vest and shirt off after playing Would the first song to start the show! Very charismatic singer and great stage presence! His voice very unique and an unbelievable range! RIP Layne!
This is just mind boggling, man this guy deserves much more credit. What’s next…. The rest of the lost Nirvana Munich recordings???????? Edit: thanks for the likes, u guys are family
@@alisonberzins1107 if you want something more brutal : a '96 aic footage for Kiss opening (the first live of the last 4 shows) is on youtube since one week, no more spoil, but god damn it's horrifying -_-
It’s pretty shocking how drastic the change was. He relapsed after they concluded the Dirt tour sadly. He even looked better in the second half of 1993 compared to the entire year of 1992 where he looked really thin.
I think this being just a soundcheck- he didn’t feel nearly as much pressure as he did with the Unplugged gig.. he was just having fun here.. Your right, his voice sounds really good here.
Kinda Funny Sean in the interview saying this was their version of unplugged because they would never do the real unplugged. Then they end up doing it later and it’s arguably their most famous performance.
Not surprised since they had just recorded Jar of Flies a few months before and were on the road for most of ‘93. ‘96 is the year that things really started to head south for him.
Very true. He was stronger, maybe one of the times he was off dope too though; as he had a lot of stints of sobriety throughout the decade. He may have been straight here. It's been a publicly acknowledged fact he shot up before '96 unplugged.
This was my roughest year since turning my life around. I threw away 6+ years of sobriety by choosing to use after several setbacks that were out of my control just seemed to pile up. Throughout 2022 I went on two month+ binges and two that were less than 2 weeks. My Spotify wrapped said I was in the top 0.1% of AIC listeners, mostly songs of 3 legged dog. Layne & crew got me through the darkest days and loneliest nights I've experienced in over half a decade and I'm forever grateful for these albums
I'd kill to hear that entire live rendition of Rotten Apple. I never had the privilege of seeing Alice live with Layne (would have been 1 years old when this aired), but I am grateful enough to see Stone Temple Pilots and Soundgarden live with their original lineups.
Layne and Jerry's vocal harmonies are some of the best from any duo ever. They sound so good. This is awesome to see. They absolutely should've played Rotten Apples on the Unplugged gig.
Every time I see him with gloves and glasses, I feel bad because I know he had already given up and reached an abyss, what a loss, Unparalleled Talent! Long Live Layne 👑
Wow I’m speechless. I’m only 21 so I never had a chance to experience these guys live. They are pretty much gods in my mind, they have done so much for me and I wasn’t even alive when they created their music. (I’m talking about the original lineup) Hearing a live acoustic version of Rotten Apple brought me to tears as it pains me they didn’t include it in their unplugged set. That song and entire record means so much to me. I’m in shock after watching this haha
you are a unique young man. i'm thrilled you found AIC... makes my heart so full & i'm glad you love it, as i still do at 53 years old. i saw them live only once, but so glad i did... Indianapolis 1993
First it was the Them bones extras? Followed by the Tiger stadium footage and now this aswell. It's great to be an Alice Fan right now. Never did think we'd get to see this! They sound incredible. Layne sounds perfect here!
Silly Sean Kinney 🥁 this is incredible!! WOW!! Nice to see some footage I haven't seen before. I love Alice in Chains and I absolutely love Layne Staley RIP beautiful talent man We miss you dearly 😇💝🌹 Thank you so very much for sharing this awesome video. What a voice!!
For anyone who loves AIC and Layne these videos have been a true discovered treasure…much appreciation for sharing! Always looking for something new or rare…truly enjoyed these!!! Thank you!!!
Again, absolute knockout footage! Thank you 🙏! The footage of Layne during Rotten Apple from behind @7:34 with the chandeliers is reminiscent of the '96 Unplugged footage! Positively euphoric and blissful! Honestly, it's much too bad that the only audio we have of this appearance is from the audience where you can't hear much of anything, but, as always, Layne's stunningly powerful and unstoppable voice carries over it all and into the heavens! Staley Seasons Greetings! All Hail Lord Layne 🤘🔥🤘
The only thing that could make this better is if there was a live recording of this show. I can only imagine what melancholy magic Layne would still be bringing the world with his haunting vocals. One of a kind never to be replaced.
His voice sounds closer to the 95-96 part of the timeline here than it does to that of 93. It sounds a bit higher and with less power than the Dirt era. I understand they’re doing an acoustic show and whatnot, but it doesn’t really sound like it possesses the same thunder he’s put into shouty songs like A Little Bitter, Dirt, Hate To Feel, Rain When I Die etc. His voice here sounds more like the one on the Self Titled Album than Dirt, and definitely considerably removed from the Facelift days.
Amazing! Thank you for sharing such precious AiC footage on your channel to which I just subscribed. "Rotten Apple" and "Don't Follow" would have been beautiful on Unplugged. It is interesting that Sean stated this benefit would be the closest AiC will come to performing an official Unplugged concert. Little did he know that on April 10th of 1996 they would deliver an epic Unplugged performance.
After so many years of knowing this footage exists somewhere and hoping it would come out one day, and it finally did. I thought I died, same with the tiger stadium footage, I thought I died twice it was wild. I I'm so happy, I thank you, Copperpot
Well that pretty much sums it up. These guys were something else. Should they still be a full crew today their catalog would be something absolutely special. Obviously their career as a full set was a gift. A gift that keeps on giving the whole year long over and over. God Bless Layne and I hope his transition was golden.
I am losing my damn mind with this new footage of the guys with Layne. It's like he is still around, it's such a weird feeling, but pleasant nonetheless.
escuchar rotten apples aquí te da la idea de como hubiese sonado en el unplugged pero está bien así ya me saqué las ganas genial y gracias por subirlos
Damn soundcheck sounds better than most actual concerts. omg Mike talking about playing Zombies Ate My Neighbors caught me off guard. Love that game! 9:20
Dude me to I just came to the comment section to express how much I loved he mentioned it, and your badass to for knowing that game. Zombies ate my neighbors, Alice In Chains, being young and was no twitter or stupid TikTok crap. 90s was the best of times in life
Ok, besides this being a freaking amazing performance of a few of my top favorites (rotten apple/brother), it’s already great AIC is in my top five favorites ever n mike Inez being one of my favorite bassist ever (no more tears, my fav ozzy record with mike as bass there) in the interview with him n Sean, he mentions playing zombies ate my neighbors! My most favorite game ever of any kind! It’s so cool cuz not only do I never hear anybody ever talking about/mentioning the game, one of my favorite musians in my favorite bands does, sorry just got real excited n happy about that lol
