@@watchcraft Hesalite: new-13.6 mm vs old-14.3mm and Sapphire: new-13.2mm vs old-13.7mm (source: Monochrome and my personal observation when comparing the old and new Sapphire versions at a local AD in Atlanta)
There's a couple of unboxing videos out already and unfortunately you no longer get the box with accessories. I'm sure Omega will update the box again in 6 to 12 months with those accessories and will give them a reason to increase the price again!
Great video! Very informative! I almost bought the sapphire sandwich a few weeks ago but decided to wait and check out the new version. Your video was very helpful I like an exhibition case back, as they display the combination of engineering and art together. I’m surprised that Rolex does not offer the option. The most beautiful I’ve seen is a manual wind A. Lange & Sohne . I couldn’t stop staring at it. It cost was more than I paid for my first house, so I’ve got to get my head around that first.😃
Thanks, Frank. I agree with you, Lange has the most beautifully finished movements ever. Even better than Patek and Journe in my opinion. I'd love to get a Zeitwerk, but way over my budget. Are you going to buy a Speedmaster? Do you think the new price is fair?
@@watchcraft Hi! I bought the Speedmaster Moon watch with the closed case back last year. I put it on a NATO strap and wear it often, because it is rugged and comfortable. I’m still considering adding the sapphire sandwich but first want to see the new version up close. I’m disappointed with the price increase, but all our currencies are being inflated; and Omega is probably trying to stay ahead of the curve. Besides, I frequent an AD in Las Vegas who gives me a 20% discount off retail on most brands. I also have him ship the watch to my home near Atlanta; this allows the dealer to legally not charge Nevada or Georgia sales tax, since his company has no stores in Georgia. Thank you for your fine videos. I especially benefited from the one concerning pronunciation of watch brand names! Being from the southern U.S., we have our own way of pronouncing almost any word😃. But, I watched the video twice; and now I find myself correcting ADs that are challenged in this area. Stay Safe, Frank
I'm happy to hear that the pronounciation video was useful to you, Frank. One more question about your Moonwatch, if you don't mind: Did you get any scratches on the hecalite glass?
No scratches so far, but I’m real careful with it. I find that I’m less clumsy wearing a fine watch, because it’s always in the back of my mind. When I do any adventure travel, I just strap on my Timex Indiglo and relax.😃
It is NASA certificated. That‘s why they didn’t even chang more: „Omega obviously wants the 3861 Moonwatch to continue in the tradition of flight-qualified Omegas, and the new 3861 Moonwatch is, thanks to its continued adherence to the configuration flight-qualified by NASA, also certified for use in manned space flight.“ go read Hodinkee‘s article from the release.
@@SirMopy hhmm at the early part it says that it is qualified, but further down it mentions this: One fairly big unanswered question is whether or not the new movement has been run through the battery of tests NASA required for the original 321 Speedmaster. We're hoping to reach out to Omega for clarification on this, but given the fact that the 3861 is basically a more robust version of the 1861, I can't imagine that it wouldn't be able to meet or exceed the robustness of the earlier movement. It's worth noting, however, that the production version of the 3861 Speedmaster Hesalite model says, "Flight Qualified By NASA in 1965 For All Manned Space Missions" rather than the "Flight Qualified By NASA For All Manned Space Missions" of the 1861-equipped Moonwatch.
@@Dr_LK ah okay you mean that part. Yep was wondering also but I really bet this will be qualified... Wording can also men: „it‘s flight qualified SINCE 1965 by NASA“
