For a band, and a great one at that, to lose their iconic lead singer and THEN go on to become one of the greatest bands of an entire era is just simply divine. And this song was the masterpiece of that transition. Amazingly impressive, and thank you.

I was at this gig. Aged 19 and quite emotional to watch after all these years. At the end the crowd were calling for more and Tony Wilson who was one of the camera men turned to the crowd and said there is no more. They didn't play any songs they had released as Joy Division that night.

Me too - as I remember it(?), there were 2 cameras, either side of the stage, Tony W on one of them. NO came on really late, by which time the atmosphere was electric. Just over 30 minutes, but lives long in the memory....I have always hoped that the whole show would be released, whatever the quality.....

I remember seeing one of their first gigs at the Hacienda. Bernard spent the first part of the set with his back to the audience, even singing like this. Then he used a xylophone and shortly after it all ended. It was a new, authentic, beginning.

In 1988, I bought the 1987 New Order Substance album on cassette. I loved Blue Monday, so I had to have this tape. After pressing play on my brand new tape, it started with Ceremony. (I was patient, and willing to wait until the 4th track to Blue Monday. At the time, I didn't know anything about the band, I didn't know of Joy Division, or the collection of amazing albums before hand. It was the very first time I heard this song, and I remember it put me in some sort of deep dark trance. Here we are 35 years later, and I still love the song. It was one of those songs that helped me cope with all kinds of loss, especially losing loved relationships.

I think it's more the recording tools in the 80's and mixing vs the bands performance. On the contrary the drummer was tight and while the vocals were virtually indiscernible words even for this song Overall well done for a beginning band
@regend762
@regend762 5 лет назад
@@SRX04 New Order is a sloppy mess live. They have admitted so in lots of interviews. There was one instance when the samplers crashed and they couldn't trigger things. They brought several of them on tour after that. Things were never as tight no matter how well Morris played. I still love their mostly live sets however. Listen at 3:56 also. Cheers!

This is what Peter Hook wanted, also why he left New Order. He wanted to pay tribute to the Joy Division songs that were a part of the history ofJoy Division/New Order. Peter was really close with Ian Curtis, he felt that Ian would have wanted his songs/music to live on, the other members of New Order were uncomfortable with that. In the end Peter left New Order in 2006, when the others wouldn't agree to play Joy Division songs in their re union tour. Check out Peter Hook & The Light, he put together a great band that plays everything he was involved with writing. All the Joy Division, New Order (pre 2006) and all his new work. The best shows I have seen pre PXSIEzzzzsRER-vid. Always at a good price, at a venue with a max of 500 people. Mr Hook puts on a great show, well worth every penny if you're a fan

It was awesome, not so long after Ian's death and New Order were a fragile thing of beauty finding their way. Made me feel quite emotional as I have never forgotten the impression it made, in fact I went into Manchester and bought a bass not long afterwards, still can't play the bloody thing. Stood next to Hooky and Tony Wilson at the bar afterwards thinking this is the life!! Still enjoy watching Peter Hook and the light, seen them 4 or 5 times in the past few years, they are superb, might see New Order in the summer, have a feeling they will be disappointing though.
