Doing this gig first thing, over morning coffee, one thing becomes apparent, and flies in the face of those who would say that the music of this period lost the potent attack of Joy Division. It's a magnificent gig from start to finish, exhaustive and penetrating, physical and confident. Quite simply, it sounds like they shook Berlin to it's foundations, creating and evoking (for my money) the audio equivalent of travelling through a storm, and at the mercy of punishing and changeable weather. So boorish fans and bad journalism would have you believe they had become reduced somewhat. I beg to differ.
