I was just in New Orleans for the French Quarter Festival. The French Quarter (where you walked around in this video) is very safe with a strong police presence on Bourbon Street at night when it is jammed with tourists. And there are a huge number of things to explore in the rest of the city as well.
Thanks. That was fun to watch. We're currently in New Orleans and saw some of the same people yesterday as well. In terms of being dangerous. We feel better being back in our hotel room when it gets dark but feel JUST FINE during the day. Lots of police and security presence once it gets dark so that tells you something.
There is trash everywhere actually, I just didn’t really capture it on video very well. It’s actually a pretty dirty town, a pretty large homeless population. That being said it’s very popular for food and the party atmosphere.
As a Federal LEO/Security Officer, I worked in NOLA in the 1990s and responded there after Katrina, leaving in 2012. Like in MOST large cities across the nation, it IS a dangerous place to be. What makes it even worse is that the local (i.e. Parish) government is corrupt. The police department is also so bad that the federal government had to take control of the agency. You couldn't pay me to go back...
That is very true that there are dangerous places in most large cities. Heck I live in Missouri and St. Louis is one of the worst. I enjoyed the visit to NOLA, but it's not one of those locations that I long to go back to visit.
