If after you have created a tracksaw cutting station or new MFT3 top with your Parf Guide System you need to add more holes it can be tricky unless you have left some 3 mm layout holes. With the new Parf Revision Dogs you can add more holes and even some offset holes if required.

Very simple solution Peter, well done. Just received my MkII system yesterday. I must say the quality is superb and exceeded my already high expectations. Just a tip from my days as an automotive engineer, I covered the bottom of each brass bushing with my thumb and filled them with oil. Then with my other thumb apply pressure to the top of filled bushing, this presses/impregnates the oil deep into the pores of the bushing giving it long lasting lubrication. We used to perform this technique on brass bushings for gearbox input shafts and works a treat, when the bushing is out the pressure forces oil to weep through to the outside of the bushing not just on the inner surface.

Great idea and implementation Peter. I've been wrestling with the need for a new workbench roughly 1800mm x 610mm which exceeds the capacity of my CNC to cut the dog holes. With the revision dogs I can now add dog holes to suit my needs. Thanks.

Definitely something I shall be buying to put with the rest of the Parf Guide system. I cannot find them yet on the Axminster website (11:08 on Wednesday, Aug. 12.) but I am in no great hurry as I also need another 20 mm cutter and they are currently out of stock. I have just finished making another top and I carefully added lots of extra 3 mm holes around the outside, just in case. The new Parf Revision Dogs mean that this is no longer necessary. No matter how much you try to future proof, you always find out that you missed something. In one of Ron Paulk's videos he said that he had sort of free handed some extra dog holes around the outside of a top he had made as he had forgotten to add the extra 3 mm holes, so even the best can go wrong.

Hi Peter, Fantastic option on these new dogs! I’m using the new UJK parf2 on a new 1200mm x 800mm marine plywood at 25mm. The wood is incredible tight which means even after the 3mm drilling is incredible hard pushing in and even worst pulling out the pins. My hands were battered after only drilling two columns. Can I suggest to you a much bigger 3mm pins, giving more leverage to pull them out? Did I mention the 3mm drill bit doesn’t drill all the way through the 25mm ply wood, so I’m having to use a mini dress press with the 3mm drill piece to vertically drill through all the holes which is time consuming, so much so, it’s taken me 2 days just complete all the holes. Obviously not continuously, about 6 hours in total due to the slow process with the tight pins as I’m having to use pilers to wriggle the pins out of the holes. So my suggestion is bigger handle grip for the 3mm pins to easier to pull them outs and secondly option of a longer 3mm drill bit for woods thicker than 20mm? Thanks, Liang.
@NewBritWorkshop
@NewBritWorkshop 4 года назад
Hi Liang, If you make the 3 mm drill longer then the drilling guides (very expensive to produce) have to be taller. The system is designed for 19 mm MDF. Peter
@paulwhealy5243
@paulwhealy5243 3 года назад
Hi Laing: I work on boats so am familiar with marine plywood. IT is very dense but normally drills just the same as 19 mm plywood or MDF. Be careful if your top is too thick. The 90° clamps with the elbow have to go down in and turn the corner to hook on the underside. I know they won’t turn the corner with 1.5” stock but yours may be OK. I just had an issue with my newly drilled Parf Guide top - 3/4” MDF. The fence and dogs I bought from BenchDogs wouldn’t go in with tapping with a mallet. Coming out I had to drive from below with mallet and dowel. Drove me crazy - was ready to send dogs back - then saw Peter’s 20mm Reamer tool from Axminster. Got it today - works like a charm and now all the dogs fit snugly but not tight. May help you with your marine plywood if 20mm holes are too tight.

The latest issue of US magazine ‘Family Handyman’ has a feature called ‘Easy-Change Storage System’... the essence of which are sheets of 3/4 plywood into which are drilled an array of 1” (25mm) holes. Sound familiar?? :-) The panels are then mounted vertically on walls. Into various holes are placed pegs from which all sorts of storage thingies are mounted. Like a French cleat but with straight pegs. A Vertical Parf-Dog system. Maybe your new shed could use something like that.

John, I did have an issue with my early edition parf ll system. As always axminster customer care was faultless and the part was replaced, (with a revised and improved part). The (flat) head of the grub screw in the collar snapped. It's now an Allen key grub screw. I've always found axminster customer care second to none.

Hi John, That was caused by just one small batch of rulers. Axminster reacted very quickly and withdrew everything, sacked the subcontractor and brought the work in house. Peter

Mine was bought a year ago and is faultless. Measuring the edge of the holes against a long Woodpeckers ruler (the closest thing I currently own to a reference straight edge) reveals absolutely perfect alignment. I have had a problem with another product purchased from Axminster: as James Balland has said, their customer service was faultless.
@michaell8835

New Brit Workshop Peter. I ordered a MK II system from Axminster last week, and one of the rulers is narrower than the other, and the holes are not drilled in line with the etching. I got in touch with Axminster and they said it has no effect on accuracy. I wasn’t happy with that having paid £180. They did however send me a replacement ruler, which had exactly the same error. In fairness, the man at Axminster told me it probably would have, and that it wasn’t an error. I’m a bit gobsmacked to be honest. I’ll be taking it back to a store rather than using customer service. I know it’s not your fault, but quality control is amiss somewhere, and axminster appear to have not replaced the faulty rulers / sticks as at Sept 2020 😟

@@michaell8835 This is interesting to hear. I thought the every manufacturer in the history of mankind go-to excuse of ''only a small batch - all now resolved'' was a bit too good to be true. I've also seen criticism of the recently introduced Parf fence. Maybe Axminster should know their limitations and just stick to retailing products and not overreach with their own lines.

@@NewBritWorkshop Thanks for that peter, I was looking at your video from Axminster on You Tube and saw your video on the Assembly Square and tried to order it and found it was not available to Australia which is a little disappointing, As you are involved with Axminster and design some of the UJK items have you ever thought of designing a T square that is 12oomm long with cnc holes ever 1mm for measuring more accurately similar to the woodpecker unit. Woodpecker make the imperial version but do not appear to make a metric version in the 1200mm range but do have a 600mm one. this type of unit would make marking out a lot easier and be more accurate, Woodpeckers may have a copyright on the design but I am sure you and Axminster would be able to come up with a similar product that would work , just a thought. My cutting table uses 100mm spacing which works perfectly well. Your product is beautifully made,but does not suit my needs,or uses.i feel using 96mm limits the usability of the worktable, and could add confusion to measurement. Hi George, One of the world's largest tool companies sell a bench called the MFT3. There are hundreds of thousands of them with very happy users. They all need replacement tops at some point. Also, there are very few times where the inter column or row distance plays an important part of a woodworking task. The key thing is that those rows and columns are at right angles. Peter

Nothing a tape measure and a twenty mm drill bit couldn’t acheive
@68HC060
@68HC060 4 года назад
Try making a 10 x 20 hole table-top using a tape measure and a twenty mm drill bit. -Then you may find out that you forgot to mention one ingredient: "A whole bunch of luck". Your statement is simply not justified, if you're going to use the dog-holes for anything other than holdfasts and stops. -If you'll be using it for holdfasts and stops, fine, but then you won't need a "tape-measure" anyway, just pop some random holes here and there.
@xenusceptic
@xenusceptic 4 года назад
68HC060 it’s not luck it’s 40 plus years of working as a professional carpenter/joiner I’m not knocking peter or his parf wotsit it has its place in the home enthusiast market But it is a expensive one trick pony to drill a few holes, you don’t need a festool mft or a clone table to mark and make square cuts with a track saw.
@68HC060
@68HC060 4 года назад
@@xenusceptic No, you don't need it. Nor do you need a track saw or any power tool. You don't need the modern stuff at all, however, some of all those tools makes things easier for some of us, some of those tools make things faster for some of us - it all depends on what work is being done. The Parf Guide system can be used for track saws, but it can certainly be used for more than that; it's only limited by one's imagination. We do agree on that a lower price would make it more attractive.
@xenusceptic
@xenusceptic 4 года назад
68HC060 I still think it’s a one trick pony once you’ve drilled your holes the guides all end up in a cupboard or drawer the only reusable part is the drills And of course you’ll use the dogs in the drilled holes (assuming dogs are supplied in the guide kit or are they a extra cost)
@68HC060
@68HC060 4 года назад
@@xenusceptic True, the guides / 'rulers' will be likely put away for a while, however, your tabletop will need to be renewed once in a while, when it's worn down. That's where it's handy to be able to quickly and easily reproduce an exact copy of the table top. If you only needed it once, you'd likely want to purchase a 'Kreg-once' template instead. Some people need to make more than one table top (one on the workbench, one on the assembly-table, one 'hexagonal'). Those people who build custom-workbenches for clients will likely prefer having a PGS and in that case, it'll pay big time. Personally I think it's great to get new tools that make life as a woodworker easier; for those who already have years of neat tricks up their sleeves and for those who want a taste of the joy that woodworking can bring. I like unpowered tools the most, because I hate the noise and I also hate tripping over the cables all the time - and since I have no outlets in my workshop anyway, I have a few battery-powered tools, but hand tools can be faster and often produce a better result.
