I think that on the meta quest 3 there is much more games and experiences in vr than on the pico ultra. The pico is great for those who want de work or do fitness . But for gaming i think the meta quest 3 is way better .

Better in Pico4 Ultra compared to Quest3: - 12 GB RAM (+ 4GB)!! - higher resolution of the MR cameras!! - slightly higher display resolution! 20.8 vs 20.08 PPD (2160:104 vs 2208:110) - higher rendering resolution!! - lighter than Quest3 - much better binocular overlap!! - motorized IPD adjustment - better comfort, much better balanced headset (not a very cheap strap as in Quest3) - WiFi 7 - higher battery capacity - fast charging - very affordable motion trackers - not a closed ecosystem What is worse: - worse lenses (more glare) - less games in the Pico Store (but still more than enough for any gamer!!!!) These + don't add: you have a set for PCVR only and a set for embedded only. For embedded, you have much less games overall and it won't change (Pico loses exclusive games). For PCVR, everything useful to embedded is useless. Wifi 7 may be a good addition but it does not change a lot from what Q3 has: it's the very same chipset.Useful video bandwidth is usually much less than 500Mb/s and you have diminushing games over 200 due to latency. Problem is: lenses are much better on the Q3, and it really makes all the visual experience. Real pro: a decent strap but Q3 users know they have to buy aftermarket. The Pico is on US embargo and conversely: most users won't know about it anyways, and some will simply not manage to buy it: that's why embedded games dont take off.

This is definitely a buy for me. I hoped the lenses would have less aberration towards the edge on the new model though :(. I love the Quest 3, but it's too front heavy. Meta really dropped the ball not shifting some weight to the back.

Because they want revenue, and high quality lcds are cheap. Expensive oleds in mass production > way less revenue. You gotta save for a Pimax, or wait some more years.

@@alanwilkinson7605 I did and it's too blurry. No way back after tasting varjo aero/crystal resolution. Even with this fantastic oled contrast. Waiting now for a high resolution micro oled like the Crystal Super. No doubt that high resolution + micro oled will be amazing

Loved my pico 4 but the software catalog just didn't carry the same punch as the quest 3. I think the biggest issue with these standalone headsets in general is how you end up tied into their ecosystem and potentially have to rebuy games you already own - that's where PCVR and steam etc have a huge advantage, I know that whatever I buy on steam will work with whatever future PCVR headset I buy.

Nice but it's a small improvement over OQ3. Still far from Apple's Resolution. I'm disappointed on Quest and Valve they haven't improved anything this year. Cheap Quest coming soon.... not a better one.

Apple spoiled the game for me. I can't go back to lower res and lcd. What these guys Meta and Pico don't realise is they need to release 2 headsets. Basic cheaper lcd version for people that don't really want high end stuff and high end one for the hard-core guys. In the top of the range headset the resolution needs to be very high minimum Pimax Crystal like resolution and Oled panel has to be used.

I believe the thinking is if you don't allow people to use USB-DP then they will be more inclined to buy your apps instead. This kind of thinking however is very flawed on many levels because the people who want DP, will never be buying anymore apps then they would have bought even if forced to use WiFI for PCVR. They crippling the product for bad reasons.

Having a both world playing from displayport cord through powerful machine and freedom without wired through standablone is always a win for consumers.

As someone who likes the Pico4 and the Quest3 I have the feeling that the Pico4 Ultra is a bit like a Quest3 in a Pico4 jacket. Of course, both have a different system, but on the whole I think that I can make good use of some of the Pico4 Ultra features, like spatial video and photos. To use it as a 3D camera sounds good to me. Better pass through then the Quest3? That's awesome. I love watching movies in passthrough mode.... so in short: it will be my companion headset to the Quest3 not a replacement. It will only replace my Pico4.

I guess it all depends on the use case, for people into stand alone and AR / MR use, this might be a great HMD, for those who would use it for PCVR only, maybe not so much especially at it's price point. Same resolution, looks like the same pancake lenses as the OG Pico 4, the lenses are good, but nowhere as good as those in the Quest 3. By having a XR2 Gen2 chip, the visible compression should be much better, Gen2 is faster at decoding (like comparing Quest 2 and 3, 3 is so much better). Lack of a display port like the Neo 3 Link is a missed opportunity, they would have sold a crap load of HMD for this feature alone. Being a Gen2 chip with those specs, don't expect a decent battery life also, that XR2 Gen2 chip is power hungry. As for the controllers, I really like the OG Pico 4 controllers, I love their balance so don't know what the ringless ones will feel like balance wise. For $600 USA (probably around $750 Canadian), it's a hard pass for me.

I had quest 2 for 3 years got a quest 3 for almost a year now i have wifi 6e and i never noticed any difference in airlink or virtual desktop even with all the correct settings its always the same compression and latency

Pico4 was my favorite PCVR headset for a while. Best comfort, best optics. But, the panels had lackluster colors/contrast/brightness. If the Pico4 Ultra had a DisplayPort tether it'd be an instant-buy, but for now I'll stick with PSVR2 + Quest3

I love my Pico 4 over my Quest and I am excited for this. I live in Asia and pricing for Pico is significantly competitive vs the Quest so this may be an alternative for me especially being mainly a PCVR player. What I love also is unlike how the Quest redesigned the design which forces us to buy new accessories, this new Pico can basically reuse most of our existing accessories.

It's all a bit redundant though, as least in North America. Pico will not be available in USA or Canada still. Bytedance/Tictoc/Pico future very shaky in US. Good for Chinese and Europe I guess. Still a massive chunk of the market is missing

It will have better cooling and be faster than Q3 just like the Pico 4 ran faster than the Q2 due to its better cooling as more room without battery up front.

This new spatial videos will be so good for people who’s grandparents or mom or dad or anyone really who may pass away before them and having the ability to see them again like you we see them in real life will be absolutely amazing. P4U advantage over Q3 is nice but not not so essential as P4 over Q2 was. But what can win me over is: -if Spatial Video turns out to be good. 2x32MB Cameras could be awesome for photos. Video res at 50Mbit is also interesting. -If RGB passthrough is noticeably better than Quest3 -If Pico open access to RGB cameras for devs -if Guy Godin says that P4U with Wifi7 PCVR is better in any way -If you can use TikTok with real time filters in MR (I have children) -If they open their promised 2D Android store also in Europe and it has good 2D apps

AV1 is not their codec, its open source. youtube uses it for some high res vids, also I believe twitch is testing AV1 streaming it allows much better quality for same bitrate, and it degrades much nicer, if you bandwidth drops, no microblocking like x264/x265 in theory a 1000mbit AV1 stream would look like 1500mbit HEVC stream but it's slower to encode without hw acceleration, so it might mean more delay depending on your PC

Why wouldnt you?! If you run out of power... but still want to keep playing, you can swap batteries, and keep going. If you dont have swappable batteries.. you are DONE.. as you will have to WAIT for them to re-charge. You can easily get a set of rechargeable AA Batteries, and can have sets charging, while you are playing. Furthermore... Proprietary Batteries, are a Nightmare. As once they lose their ability to hold a long charge... and you need to replace them... you often have trouble finding a proper replacement. And if you DO find a replacement online.. it might actually be very expensive. On the other hand, Rechargeable AA batteries can be purchased anywhere.

I hope Pico does a better job of flocking the lens assembly. Pico 4 suffers greatly from internal glare, and it would be so easy to fix in manufacturing.

Pico 4+ native rendering resolution: 1920x1920. Quest 3: 1680x1760. Sadly no DP.

Not sure what this means. Is it rendering for the mobile games? Because it’s still 20 PPD compared to 25ppd for q3 via PCVR.

@@johnmann7o2 Exactly. One thing is the resolution of the screen and another thing is the resolution the chip can render in standalone mode (the native resolution). So yes. Besides pico has more vertical FOV but less horizontal FOV so also that to consider.

The only thing stopping me from considering Pico for so long is the game library... Pico needs to understand that it's not just about the hardware but also the software and the updates and new patches for the games. Look at Meta and their exclusive games, that's way more attractive. We are not looking at just one specific point, it's hardware, apps, and games.

The biggest selling point for the Quest is the ecosystem with its games and OS. The pico is pretty much a very slightly improved copy of the Quest so for me it’s a pass though I probably wouldn’t be able to get one here in the states regardless.

It's as clear as day that the Pico 4 Ultra is better than the Q3 and please tell me games from the meta store that you absolutely have to have and that are not for the Pico 3 or 4 ? The Pico design is also much better designed and modern, whereas the Q3 looks old-fashioned and requires an extra head mount which causes additional costs. Also shorter playing time and longer loading times. The Meta Store doesn't look particularly good either. China copies a lot but also improves a lot ⭐ And i believe USA will also get the new Ultra ...

If its $600usd then that is pretty amazing. HOWEVER I do need more information about the display, I'm not a huge fan of conventional LCD technology because of its inability to correctly balance or even do blacks. I tried playing some DARK VR games with my PICO-4 when I had it and it was very disappointing with HUGE backlight bleed and all blacks being merged into a shade of grey, it was aweful. Only decent local area dimming (with HDR) can resolve this for such screens even if OLED isn't being used. So far it seems only Sony with PSVR2 have attempted to resolve this problem, but that headset its not great on PC.

With the Pico 4, I can't get my eyes anywhere near the lenses, so have a small FOV. If the Ultra is the same shape, then it's still a loser for me.

It's not really the answer to the quest 3 though. It's Only releasing in China so can't really get your hands on it plus , you can only say it's the answer to the quest 3 if you release it in the US. pico 4 never did so NOT the answer to the quest 3 .....

@@mixedrealityTV not my point though, Meta is a US based company, the Quest 3 is a US devise, IF someone wants to claim "answer to the quest 3" that item HAS to release in the country that the other is in. right now we have the quest 3 then over there some other people are making a thing but it's not an answer to the quest 3. An "answer" is a "competitor". A competitor is ONLY a competitor if the two are sold side by side, they aren't so it's not. simple really

The specs of the Pico4 Ultra are obviously better (not much better, but still clearly better) than those of the Quest3. There is 100% no doubt about it !!! Did you guys actually watch Sebastians video or are you just Meta fanboys??!!

i think i'd personally take a higher vertical fov over ppd tbh. It'll have to be cheaper than the quest 3 though

Better in Pico4 Ultra compared to Quest3: - 12 GB RAM (+ 4GB)!! - higher resolution of the MR cameras!! - higher display resolution! - higher rendering resolution!! - lighter than Quest3 - much better binocular overlap! - motorized IPD adjustment - better comfort, much better balanced headset (not a very cheap strap as in Quest3) - WiFi 7 - higher battery capacity - very affordable motion trackers - not a closed ecosystem What is worse: - worse lenses (more glare) - less games in the Pico Store (but still more than enough)

At this point I just don't care about new VR headsets anymore until the FOV is simply far bigger than the current roughly 100 degrees horizontally on average--and I mean much bigger. I don't think I will buy another VR headset without that being addressed. It's the single greatest immersion breaker in the likes of the Quest 3 for me.

If you have Pico 4. Don't bother upgrading to Pico 4 Ultra. If Pico 4 ultra had display port, then it would be a game changer. Unfortunately overall, Quest 3 is still the general recommendation from the VR community. So if you have Quest 3. Definitely do not upgrade to Pico 4 ultra.

No latency and compressionn that's why we wan't it. No matter how good your specs are and how good your stuff maybe there will always be compression and latency and that bothers many people including me. DP headsets has the advantage of looking better on lower specced PC:s. You need more brawn to get a similar thing on Aio headsets.

@@zerocool6452there is compression on DP1.4.... DP2.1 are only available on AMD graphic card ...and DP2.1 vidéo controller are expensive ( isn't it Pimax!?) USB-C has display Virtual mode...and has a good bandwidth in 3.2 version...( Forget USB 3.0) Added to this, they want to sell apps...and autonomous game ( with the bad decoding capacity of XR2...) and DP Always means SteamVr....so no money for them

Meta ecosystem is the best. Why i must waste my money on the Chinese product that lack the software and quest ecosystem. Maybe for pcvr games? But the lack of displayport is also disappointing

@Anakin-dl6eb First of all, it's not closed ecosystem. You can use it with a lot of third-party apps, and you can join a meta to create apps and games. The metas librery and supports are way better than pico. Also, producing something in china does not mean that that thing is invented or designed in china. Apple products are also produced in china, so does that mean china invented apple products and engineering design for them? No , so educate yourself before commenting. 🙄

I love my pico 4 and if there is an ultra version i definetly need it! 😄 The onl thing is the light leakage that is annoying and i hope that they improved that.

San andreas was the only game i was lookin forward to. Now that it's delayed/scrapped, This will be a very interesting proposition since i never play standalone anyways. Sadly there's nothing in vr that i'm interested in at the moment and a quest 2 is more than enough for fitness games. I'll probably still wait it out until there's a reason to get excited about vr again

How's tracking with the controllers? I love playing action VR games like Blade and Sorcery, and precise, broad-angle controller tracking is everything for VR swordfighting.

well Pico 4 is better than quest 2. And so Pico ultra will be better that Quest 3. The only problem here is the allready paid game collection. I you own even a Quest 2 is not worth it go for a Pico ultra if you have to buy again all the games!
