Matt, once all the manuals are out of production, we will all be praising them. That Porsche probably has one of the best manual boxes ever created, I am sure it is fast and precise. Why not celebrate the fact that it may be one of the last manuals in a Porsche, instead of dissing it the whole time? Once we get self driving, electric, speed limited, soulless cars.... you will remember driving this Porsche very well.
Well said. Dissing manual gearboxes while conveniently ignoring the fact that this car is a limited edition collectors item, not an everyday driver and even comparing the ride to that of an estate car. If it only came in auto or if you had the choice of transmissions then I'm sure Matt would rant about how collectors cars should only be manual. And acting shocked when a limited edition collectors car that will drastically appreciate in value is more expensive than the mass produced Turbo S, how very controversial. Then explaining the unheard of draw backs of city driving with a manual gearbox and feeling the need to explain that you have to down shift.. to overtake.. when in 7th gear. Motoring journalism at its finest..
@@asdfghjk_ People who wish this was an automatic truly don't get Porsche. If I had the cash and the ability, I would love to have a brand new manual 911 turbo.
@@twiggystickguy1378 Exactly!!! Someone wants an auto, go and get yourself a Lexus with a CVT. But don't diss a drivers masterpiece just because the flappy pedals are more convenient in city traffic. Hearing this bullshit from a motorjournalist is simply sad.
I just took my first driving lesson and I *chose* a manual car over automatic. I enjoyed myself, it was so cool to drive a car for the first time and I had a good time managing my clutch and “finding the biting point”. When I left my driving school though, my left leg was killing me. Maybe I need to experience driving faster and on an open road, but after that, I do not understand why a lot of people worship this three-pedal setup like god. I’m sure it’s super fun, but in my circles, it’s getting so cult-like, it’s almost as if people choose to ignore the “other option” completely.
That's what they said about the 911 R, then out came the Carrera T and GT3 Touring. Usually special edition Porsche's are followed up with a mass produced equivalent. I wouldn't be surprised if they produce a 911 Turbo RWD or something afterwards which would tank the value.
@@lachie5687 You're forgetting there already was a sports classic model from 2010 that was followed by plenty cool Porsches, yet that model is a modern classic of its own. The 911R has more than doubled its value so far so I don't really see where you're coming from. Certainly the Carrera T and GT3 Touring did not tank the value of the 911R, neither did they tank the value of the 2010 Sports Classic with one being sold for $654k, over double its original MSRP. The 911R is its own special car and so is the Sports Classic, the values of which aren't dented by more accessible alternatives such as the Carrera T or GT3 Touring.
No, it's not. In fact, it's not even close to the real deal. The original had driver engagement and raw analog feedback with analog controls including steering. This has none. This is just a rebranded modern day Porsche/VW, nothing else.
I've never heard a car enthusiasts complain so much about having a manual transmission. I personally am very pleased it has a proper manual. 7 gears may be the only thing I could do w/o.
Yeah I wish the turbo s was still a manual. Hell... My WRX would be so lame as an automatic. Manual is so much more enjoyable. He's a car guy but his complaining about a manual. Weird .....
Actually, it is like a normal 6 speed manual. But you can get into the long 7th gear (almost like the 8th gear of the PDK) from 6th to save fuel and to reduce engine noise. Sport Chrono Package is for free with the manual option and I would always go for Sport Chrono in a 911. But I have a problem: The PDK is also absolutely great. And it's faster. A normal Carrera (non S) would be fine for me with manual, but Porsche don't offers that option. Okay - I'm still too poor even for the entry level 911, so that's just fine. Maybe there is once more a 911 T coming up.

Wow Matt, you criticized manual way way too much. This is a car for casual old style driving, and not mindless daily commute or high performance track driving. This car is for weekend fun drive with last manual Porsche in old styling. Why would you care about it’s clutch if this is exactly what you want to experience with this?
Yeah I normally agree mostly with Matt but this video is way off. This car is not for someone looking to get their first 911 or to drive it through town to pick up groceries. If you buy this car you definitely have another car as well for every day use. The manual is this car’s selling point
This is one of the first times I’ve seen Matt have weak points in the ‘5 annoying things’ segment, think that just shows the quality of the product Porsche has produced. Awesome review Matt! So cool to be able to learn about this car.
Hey guys I saw a video for a new Porsche that came out a few months ago but I can’t remember the model. If I remember correctly it was like a refreshed version of an older model. Relatively cheap for a new Porsche, under 140k I think. It was driver focused but not as high performance as the GT3. Does anyone know what I’m talking about? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Manual transmission is the best that all I have ever owned sad to see it go away but I hope they keep making cars with manual transmission just awesome
Can't believe you have these issues with the manual...... most of us on your side of the planet drive older manuals and would drool over this one. Great video as always.
About the stick shift....boys boys boys....and you few girls (though i haven't seen any of you complaining about this). He said he doesn't like the manual, he prefers the manual from the GT3/GT4 which is the 6 speed, not a 7 (fair)...and even says "well you are splitting hairs, still a good gear box" (fair)....and goes on to talk about the option for auto blip or not and mentioning that if you put it in sport or sport plus (which is forced auto blip) he says "it takes away some of the skill and the involvement" (which is super fair wtf....sport plus and i can't heal toe...gtfo....what's the damn point....I'd be pissed after spending all that money and being forced into auto blip...yeah....fuq that manual...lame af) ....and if you disagree with that then what the heck are you all talking about. He nailed all the points. All the complainers are semi drivers who have no idea wtf they are talking about or just missed the message. To me it was clear, concise, and strait forward....get a gt4 RS and your pick of any other 911 for this price point lol
Matt missed point totally by bashing manual transmission in this car. This car is modern classic for truest 911 fans.Putting PDK in it would compromise experience for people who love first gens of 911
Agreed, he also seemed very confused by 7th gear being locked out until you're in 6th, which makes total sense. Also the 992 Carrera (non S) is not available with a manual as Mat said at the end
+1 Also has a wide body with no air intake, like many classic Porsches. Just for that feature, it is already worth it! The manual transmisson is basicly a 6 speed, with a 7th economic gear, it is locked out, u cant change in that accidently, probably never ment to use in real life anyway.
@@grahamelias9306 How does 7th gear being locked out make any sense? If you ever drive it on a motorway you'd get up to cruising speed in 3rd and then you'd want to stick it in 7th. Having to go via 6th seems pointless. It sounds more like a limitation of having so many gears in a manual gearbox than anything practical.
I absolutely love the look of the Sport Classic, especially the ducktail spoiler. I also like the look of the Targa Heritage edition and it’s classic Targa body style, but if I was buying one myself (and could actually afford it), I think I’d go for a Carrera S with a few options.
Yeah that’s the problem-all this car will be to most people who buy it is just that-an investment. Not a masterful piece of engineering to be driven and enjoyed, but an investment-to sit in a climate controlled garage only to be immediately flipped for a profit. Wash, rinse, repeat. Sickening.

Very surprised by the extensive critiquing of the vehicle coming in manual. This is a sport CLASSIC. This is for the classic sporty experience, and that's a manual.
I was going to finalise my order on one of these until you mentioned about the Fuch's style non-'Fuchs' alloys which was a total dealbreaker. I'm considering the new Kia Cee'd instead. Thanks as always Matt!
5:12 dude have you ever done that on a bike?!😂 its just amazingly entertaining and also warms up the tires. Maybe its just a German and Swiss thing for bikers to do😅
Actually met a Porsche employee with a Sports Classic like a little over a month ago at a parking lot and had a chat with him about the car. He said it was a pre-production prototype, which sadly has to be destroyed after testing. All for keeping the limited production numbers truthful. It was basically looking the same from the outside as this one, but had a light brown, stunning interior. This happened in Heimsheim, near Weissach (Porsche‘s Development Center)
You complain about not having adaptive cruise control, but this is a manual transmission. Manual and adaptive cruise control does not get along well. The cruise control might need to lower or increase gears to keep up and without the automatic transmission that is not possible
The reason you couldnt shift into 7th from 5th is because it was locked. It unlocks when youre in 6th gear. That way you cant accidentally go from 4th to 7th. Actually really clever and makes a 7 speed much much better for sporty driving. Edit: he figured it out later lol. Too quick with the comment
that car is sooo beautiful, but for the first time I am not really enjoying this review by matt.. he was kinda annoyed all the time and kept on hating on the manual.
Doesn't matter what the price is, as this 911 is unobtanium for 99.9% of people with the money to buy it anyway. Just another limited Porsche where you'll need to have a multi year purchase history with your local dealer just be considered to be added to 'the list'
Since 2016, Porsche have been knocking these designs out of the park. The 911 has never looked better. The 2016 GT3 RS is still my favourite Porsche of all time.
7 speed manual ? Finally we are getting close to the 12 speed transmission they have in all movie cars when they race. Edit : the burble on this Porsche sounds like the little popping toy my kids used to have to push around. It was a ball shape on a stick with little balls inside .
The whole point of a manual box is for the "driver" to "drive" the car otherwise buy an auto. The point of a performance car is not how fast it sprints to 60mph (as that's not what a driver spends most of their time doing) but how well it performs on an open road or better still a track. Mat and his followers spend too much time placing emphasis on standing sprints.......that really isn't driving!
Yeah Matt, I would go for a regular 911 Carrera with a manual as you suggested, but it doesn't exist.. manual is available for 4s and up, at least in US
Nice one Mat and team. I kind of figured it’s the one to avoid unless having a limited edition car matters. For me the best remains 911 turbo S - the daddy of drag racers🥺🙂
@@harryspeakup8452 porsche has the experience and money, they should be able to build a reliable manual. Or they could just borrow one from audi/lamborghini.
@@Zim5.0 Is there any manual TM Lambo in the current Layout? And there is also no Audi with a manual TM above 600 Nm. Anyway, both would bot fit a rear engined 911.
Porsche always hits the right areas. Brutal acceleration which can rival much more expensive cars, extremely Strong breaking and one of the most reliable supercar out there. ♥️
@@DiaperSNiFFER There's still some time to go, usually happens at the end of the life cycle and Porsche haven't introduced the Phase 2 of this generation of the 911's.

11:40 I'm guessing the reason you can't get adaptive cruise control is because it's a manual gearbox. ACCs usually have "stop & go" which means the car can slow all the way down to a standstill and then start again when traffic moves again. That becomes difficult when the car can't change gears itself and has to rely on the driver changing the gears as the speed goes up or down.
I think this is perhaps the best looking modern 911. Which means, don't expect a comfy ride in the best looking 911. It seems to be a stronger and sharpened up version of the 991.2 Carrera T, this time only with a manuel. A true classic, chapeau!
19:54 "Just get a normal entry level Carrera, manual or automatic" Except that you cannot get the Carrera with a manual. You need to upgrade to the Carrera S to get that option.
Just a,personal opinion. This is the most perfect Porsche 911 ever and the best modern Porsche overall. Beautiful, elegant and sporty all in one, interior, exterior and engine. Love it.
What that is that you like.... The noise they are allowing more fuel after cut off. Or when you lift off the gas. It's how you get "crackle and Pop" it's in the tune.
You can' t have adaptive cruise because they would have had to design 2 whole bumper covers for a limited-run car if they wanted to offer that as an option.
I've never heard of this thing until I watched this video, and it sounds like a real 911 greatest hits weapon. A 992, manual, 911 turbo? What more could a Porsche fan want, besides no turbos. But man, this thing will be an all time classic. I'm only 3 minutes in but I need to have a break already.
The dual-clutch transmission was invented to overcome the deficits of the manual and for good reason: speed. A good manual shifter is a joy unto its own, but for daily driving, the dual-clutch (with paddles) just can't be beat. It was designed to be superior and it is, especially if the clutch is heavy on the manual offering. As a plus, you can forget about in traffic and give your left foot a much needed break. The DGG on my (two) GTIs are the best trannys I've ever owned excepting the manual I enjoyed on my '87 Civic Si, which was a dream and so, so, so, so, so, so great to drive despite being 3 seconds slower to 60 mph. As for this Porsche, luscious good looks to be sure, but I might opt for the base Carrera too.... then add some after-market sound deadening and those glorious mock-fuchs wheels.
The Porsche 911 series is undoubtedly one of the best sports cars ever made. This model is by far (for me) one of the nicest looking 911's yet, and the decals & pinstriping just make it look the nads. Can I have a free one pretty please Porsche?
I agree with Mat's verdict, he is RIGHT. HOWEVER, his reason for avoiding the Sport Classic is a bit confusing. Reason to buy a Sport Classic is different from the reasons to buy every other 911.
Well in other videos I was dissapointed with critics of car only because of brand. And now Porsche 911 with manual? Really? Are you really a car lover or just advertisement? Many people today still using manual and they still prefer it than automatic. Why do you think Hyundai N division offers i30N only with manual? Because it's more fun, it needs more skill to use it and it's balanced in perfection. I believe this Porsche is pure perfection in every way possible. Real driving isn't just sitting and using steering wheel with maximum speed. It's about to connection of the driver, car and the road. As a car lover, I am highly dissapointed with this type of childlish and lazy reviews. Especially from someone who drove so many cars and isn't 18 years old anymore.
Matt complaining about the things that basically just make it manual lol I like how these guys who review cars that are stick will say things to make things which are actually just normal sound bad or novel to people who drive only automatic. Like obviously you have to change down a gear or two if you want to overtake. And obviously balancing on a hill takes some skill, this is not shocking especially to anyone in the UK where 70 percent of people drive stick. If anyone who wants to learn to drive stick wants to watch a good review of a car with manual transmission where you see the joys of driving a stick you should watch Tedwards review of the BMW M4 base- 6 speed manual. Real fun!
Mat stop pointing out the disadvantages of a manual gearbox, we barely have any of them left. I hope Porsche doesn't watch this video and end up getting some terrible ideas. The Ducktail is great. The show Ducktales is great too.
This is sick, but the fact it's such a big deal that it's a drivers car surely shows that they should make more manual, RWD, fun cars. It's not about the numbers, it's about the feel. So it's a shame that models like this are super rare and expensive
This is stunning! Such a good spec, I’d love a tan interior in that though 👌 I love that it has the ducktail spoiler and the wider rear end, best looking 911 to date! And the sound 🥰😘 PopPopPop!!!!!
Hi James. In the gt3rs you can hold both the up shift and downshift paddles at the same time and it will let you rev it up all the way. It works in park and gear but I’m not sure about neutral. Also, not sure how it works with manual. Just thought you should know and try it in the future videos with PDK. Love the videos!
