I started making my own powder last year and I don't have a press or way to corn the powder so mine is the old fashioned stuff, but what I have done is measured the density of what I make and I found that my powder, pretty consistently is needs about 20-25 more grains over say Goex to match the power of it. I've been recycling some of that fine black dust, I usually when I collect enough wet it down with rubbing alcohol and granulate it so that I can use it as a main charge but I think next time around I will keep some for priming to see how that works in my guns.
Good info Ben, I have a question. How do you season your alder buckthorn? How and how long? Also instead of seasoning have you tried using a dry kiln? If so how did that work? Thanks Gene.
I agree but who his this man out of uniform! 😂 I like seeing you in your colonial gear. It makes me jealous but atleast I get to see how it should look like. 😊
I like your channel and have subscribed. I need to correct you on one issue. Gunpowder does not DETONATE. It has never detonated and never will. Only high explosives such as trinitrotoluene, PETN, dynamite, amatol, dynagel, C4 and Semtex DETONATE. Low explosives such as gunpowder DEFRAGLATE. I trust that this information helps you.
