I have an 8 month old gwp who’s an explosive energy. Counter surfer, chipmunk chaser, nose to the ground tracker, squirrel killing machine. He knows the command but is so hyped up that a recall is of no use. I picked up an e collar but am reluctant to start as I don’t want to make mistakes. Where’s the best start to get him engaged

Thats was a really good video! And it makes a lot of sense. Especially in today's society where everybody wants everything and they want it right now

Great advise on not training these high strung athletes in a fast mode. I never thought of it that way but like you said...they don't need to be trained on how to be wound up, they need trained on how to slow down. I can see some situations where my 10 month old needs to be taught to chill out. Thanks.

Not exactly true, she means don't rush the timelines for expectations of where the dog should be. As far as training "in drive" like you are describing, you want your dog to learn to listen in high drive. It's called drive capping.

@@51187corey yep. it is out of context but I liked that quote in applying it to an individual issue I am having with my pup.

@@51187coreythat’s where my pup needs attention. Everything with him is full on or he gets into stalking mode and hunt mode

My 7 month old Brittany wants to run circles 100yds out. This makes it hard to hunt. How do I slow him down? It would be nice if he was closer. He is SO Excited to be hunting pheasants. He points when he can't see them and runs them when he can. Any help? I love your videos. Thanks.

I think as trainer telling owner a dog is finished we fail the owner. When we should be saying training is life long and your right it needs to be enjoyable. Owners need to take over where we leave off.
