Honey, as someone who was teased growing up for crying too easily, to the point where I still am self conscious; it took me decades to learn that this is completely okay. My eyes will tear when I’m very happy, when I’m frustrated, when I’m stressed, when I’m angry, etc. You keep doing you, your smile is infectious

same here, always called a crybaby growing up and it left me w mental issues in my adulthood. Although it did make me an empathetic person and in touch with my emotions once I learned that it was okay to cry so I guess it worked out :) thats natural cause tear ducts work as sort of a release valve for those over the top emotions. That’s why there’s such thing as happy tears. for us it’s much more often bc our emotions have been repressed due to those responses we got growing up. I know I have repressed issues because of it and plan to get therapy and find out just what those are soon enough. hopefully you’ll look into it as well if you haven’t yet :) You’ll not only learn how to control and manage those over the top emotions but you’ll learn more about why you act like that in the first place, and that it’s not entirely your fault.. peace and love ❤️❤️

I was with my best friend in LA, from London UK in late 90's when this was number 1 it was everywhere and we loved it. My friend died of cancer in 2011 and now I play this and think of the fun in the malls and bars it was fun and means so much.

Nigel. I feel your heartbreak. I was a going to Malls with my circle of friends, when I was a tween a teen having the best time in my young life. When I grew up Back in the 70’s and 80’s. We did not behave like that from the video. Of course video is all pretend. I miss my youth. 😃😢 Malls were My escape from my parents. No teenagers wanted to stay home with their parents, when MALLS were the place to be. Kids saw their friends from school and we just stayed at that mall and goofed off, my besties gf’s before that word “bestie” was a word noticing all the cute boys. I liked being away from my home the whole day. Have a beautiful day, Nigel. 🌞🌞

I remember being 16 when this came out. Driving a car, alone, blasting this. Thought my problem were so big then. Funny how time can right size “problems”. I listen to this now and try to get a glimpse of that 16 year old feeling. It’s fleeting. Every time I try it feels farther away. This song gets me as close as I can to that feeling. No wrinkles, free feeling, laughing with friends. Where did time go? It’s a thief.

I'll second what your hearted comment said. Don't feel bad or be embarrassed because you got emotional from this or any other song. Music has a weird way of attaching itself to specific memories that we either hold dear or have had a significant impact on our lives. I was diagnosed with Leukemia (basically, cancer of the bones) at the age of 3. I first heard this song in 2008 when I was about 10 years old and it was about than a week before I ended up having to go for a bone marrow transplant. This goddamn song was my anchor through it all. Though I'm pretty sure I drove my parents crazy having had to hear it 100s of times (I was in the hospital for almost 5 months). I basically had this song or "Little Wonders" by Rob Thomas (which you should also react to) playing constantly. I'm okay now though, so don't worry, just dealing with the natural side effects of chemo and radiation treatments and going for check-ups a few times a year.

I’m 31. Worked a 9-5 day job my full adult life and am incredibly rational and intelligent. But I have a history of irrational behaviours. Turns out I have been diagnosed with Adult autism, OCD, ADHD and Anxiety. I guess I miss the past without knowing it and things have gotten on top of me recently. The past was easier and the late 90’s and early 00’s were the best. I need this song now more than ever and your reaction is how the song is supposed to be interpreted. Thank you for your sweet reaction. Now I started medication today and the line ‘don’t give up you’ve got a reason to live’ has pushed me through and willed me to get better. Please everyone be kind to each other. And no matter how old you are, your ethnicity, your weight, your height, your gender, if you’re struggling with sexuality, heartbreak, depression, no matter what it may be. Remember, you’ve got a reason to live ❤

Nigel you rock. Yes. I love this song, but I first heard it on The Scooby Doo movie with Freddie Prince Jr. Lol. Definitely takes everyone back to their youthful days as it was used similarly in the movie dream/memories sequence. Don't give up you got the music in you.....Sounds like Debbie Gibson lyrics, the original princess of pop. Deb is the blueprint of early an Taylor Swift. Listen to New Radicals song " Gotta stay High". Listen to it very carefully. It expresses a deep conflicting emotion of of a person trying not to fall in love, and trying to stay "high" to avoid falling in love, but slowly and ultimately circuming to falling in love towards the other person describing. Very unique, in depth song of the most intimate deep feelings of the human heart. Its a good song for first time falling in lovers, or for people who suffered a broken heart, and is boarder line of courage to take that leap of fate again.

The New Radicals reunited for first time in 22 Years to preform this song to close out Biden inauguration Parade. In Biden’s 2017 autobiography, Promise Me, Dad, he wrote that “You Get What You Give” became the family’s rallying “theme song” for son Beau Biden during his battle with cancer. New Radicals frontman Gregg Alexander: “If there’s one thing on Earth that would possibly make us get the band together, if only for a day, it is the hope that our song could be even the tiniest beacon of light in such a dark time”. “America knows in its heart that things will get bright again with a new administration and a real plan for vaccines on the way. That’s the message of the song… this world is gonna pull through.”

Your reaction is the most suitable I have seen to the powerhouse lyrics in this song. The Biden Administration asked Gregg Alexander to perform it at the Inaugural parade, and he agreed, when he read Biden's memories about how Beau, his late son, would listen it dayly as he fought cancer. You would probably get a hug from Gregg, too, if he saw your reaction. After all, he tried to remain true to his critique of human materialism and cultural shallowness: as the song went up the charts, he disbanded the New Radicals in 1999. I recommend this song to my loved ones fighting depression, or share its link with them whenever I feel they doubt themselves, because the song conveys perfectly in words what I find about life still fascinating and worth living. As long as your reactions remain this disarmingly honest, You Tube is in good hands.

Gregg Alexander (lead singer) is a super underrated talent. I’ve been following his music since I was a kid. He’s been writing lots of hits for various artists and bands since the New Radicals and even wrote music for a film called Begin Again with Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, and Adam Levine. One of the best pop songwriters of our time. Sophie Ellis Bextor’s song Murder On the Dance Floor has had a resurgence as well bc of that Saltburn movie and he wrote that song too! Another song you might know of his is Game Of Love by Michelle Branch and Santana. You should totally check out more of his work. And btw don’t be embarrassed of your genuine reaction to this song, it’s a breath of fresh air in the RU-vid world! ❤

Dude, this song is hella powerful even when it first came out, it’s what made it such a huge hit. There’s not a lot of GENIUNE art out there that has the “damn the torpedoes” message like this song. Gregg is basically saying “I don’t care how fucked up this world is, I’m not going down with it.” That’s such a powerful and reinforcing message, it’s hard for the song not to reach such powerful feelings within us.

This will be one of the most timeless songs due to how positive that message it. It make emotional every time. I listened to it non-stop for like 2 decades now. The music video was made like 10 years after the album was released. Thanks for the video! This song definitely had a huge impact on my life. It has songs that are either very serious and straightforward lyrically or satirical crazy stuff that's meant to make us question alot of the stuff we see in hour culture these days and act like its normal or healthy. The lead Gregg Alexander is still a songwriter but disbanded the group because he wanted to change the world with music and so many listeners just missed many the points in other songs and he decided not to chase the dollars and perpetuate an unhealthy culture. SO they never had another album. I love Gregg Alexander for sticking to his guns and following his heart. If more of us did that the world would be a very different place.

I first discovered this song in 2019 when I was just 17. Then in 2020 I lost my grandma, a young cousin who was my age from an overdose, my senior year of high school was ripped away, I dealt with family rifts, falling out with friends, and on top of all that was the Covid pandemic. I also started my job that year which was night shift and it has made me unable to attend many get togethers like my parents and I used to go to pre Covid since I sleep during the days. By 2022 my parents and I moved away from the town I grew up in for 20 years and I also dropped out of college. This song was my most favorite in 2019 and number 1 in my playlist, which has changed and evolved since then. So when I say this song gives me a certain feeling of nostalgia is such an understatement. I also am from Minnesota and having to see the riots and cities burn as well as all the social unrest from Covid really was traumatizing and I haven’t been the same since 2020. I’d say I’ve developed this cold unhappy personality but I’ll always enjoy the times I do find joy and happiness since I know they never last long enough

I get the same reaction every Sunday morning, I knew the song long time ago and that's the first song that I hear every Sunday since Im in a leukemia treatment and yes even when it is a very positive song it makes me cry but I like it so much it is one of my favorite songs ever I thought I was the only one with that reaction :p

I was a kid when I first heard this song in a movie about a surfing penguin 😂 Let me tell you, I tried so hard not to cry (failed) I didn't even know I was feeling like that. I still grin and then tear up when I hear this song, just like you! His voice is melodic and even, but then switches to a falsetto that sounds so beautiful and free. It's exactly like what the song encourages. It's catchy and moving at the same time, yet so nostalgic no matter when you heard it, this is the only way to react!
