This is it! I finally get to talk to you about my garden design. It took me a few weeks to design this space and I'm actually very proud of myself for getting this far. I'd love to hear your thoughts, so please share them below - I love to read all the suggestions.

🌳 ABOUT ME: Hi, my name is Daisy. I live in South TX - in a town close to Houston, TX. We are in Zone 9a. I am married and have 3 beautiful daughters. 2019 was my first year gardening and it was in a suburban area with a small backyard. I had a backyard high-density orchard with over 30 fruit trees and 11 raised beds we built Feb 2020 for our Vegetable Garden. Now we recently moved to a 3.5 acre lot where we are expanding our growing capacity and taking you on this journey with us. You gave me a strong urge to pick up graphing paper and start designing. I don’t even have property 😂. I love your journey, thank you for sharing your progress. I say it every time, because that will be us in a few years and I want to be ready.

Thank you for sharing how you designed your garden! I have been so curious how one goes about designing their garden and your use of the graph paper was awesome! I love it and I'll definitely be using this method in the future as well.

Hello 👋🏾 Daisy! If the deer 🦌 are chewing up all of your garden, just chew up the deer 😂😂😂. Just kidding, but maybe not🤣! I’m loving the way that y’all are laying everything out. It’s going to be BEAUTIFUL! Your raised bed area of 70’x70’ is almost the size of the lot my 3,000 sq. ft. house is on...city living sucks 😫. I can’t wait to see the finished project. Hi Calvin!!! 😂 my hubs does go hunting but I’m sure it’s illegal in your property. I really enjoy their presence but they are eating up my goodies 😩. 😂 no way! Well I definitely know what the city life is and it did suck for me. I’m sure you’ll have more land in the near future. 😉

I’m excited for you Daisy, you certainly don’t do things by halves 🤣 I think it’s really good you’re taking your time getting everything exactly right so you don’t wish you had done it differently. A huge project, compared to your last garden’s beds. Congrats on the new puppy too 😊

With a garden that large it might need to be designed to allow tractor access. I have mulch-dumping locations that are the size of my tractor's bucket. I won't/can't afford to pay myself to open bags of compost. Here we have access to bulk composted-poultry-litter or mushroom-compost, but I only buy leaf-mold b/c delivery prices are 75% higher than last year. Bulk delivery or bagged usually comes out to the same price but the time to spread it is different.

Do love the way you are thinking. That’s why I’m hoping I don’t have to build a fence. I’ll have access to the perimeter. I do have 4-6’ wide walkways that can fit a couple of mini tractors. 🤔. Thank you!

You could always use the black garden net . You can’t even see it from a distance and it is specifically made to keep deer out

I have seen it at tsc , you just use it like a fence . Most people I’ve seen use black fence posts and from a distance you can’t even see the fence at all

Build the fence around the raised bed garden. There are a multitude of ways to manufacture it to be less obvious. Personally, I would embrace it and make it a feature, rather than something that you wouldn't want to look at because it looked too utilitarian. Hanging baskets of flowers make all the difference in the world. Grow climbing vines like clematis, that you can train to go where you want. It's not just deer that devour your vegetables, you also have keep rabbits, pigs and armadillos from rooting around in there as well. Don't worry about toxins leeching. It's a completely overblown concern. You can just make your beds out of pressure treated lumber and have it last a lot longer. The chemicals in current day pressure treated lumber are totally different to what they used to be. Painting one side of your lumber might make it warp faster, because of the water repelling qualities that are now unbalanced. Always use a "string line" to get straight lines, especially over the distance that you are working with.

I love this! I haven’t seen any signs of other animals here in the property, but I’m sure the word will be out when there are veggies growing. I’ll definitely reconsider. Thank you so much for taking the time to educate me. 😔 I purchased all the wood already but it’s good to know for the future beds 😉.

If the dogs stay outside all the time, they will deter the deer. You may have to build a small fence to keep the dogs out of the garden. Deer are smart enough to know when the dogs are out or not. They can get pretty close to a fence with dogs, but if the dogs can get to all sides of the garden the deer will not jump over the fence. And a got a cat this year that really cut down on the squirrel pressure. He has not caught one yet but he sure keeps trying.
