If you're a new Redbubble artist or new to print on demand in general, it can be intimidating when you look at stores that have 3,000 or more designs. How can you compete? Are you even doing it correctly?
In this video, I review the store "Vishnu Kun" who has a new store and asked for some guidance. What's the deal with favorites? Are they important... or not?

After taking Zen Watercooler's advice on his review of my shop last year (Anghel Apparel), I started getting sales. :) Thanks Zen! Great advice as always!

You don't need artists favouring back your designs as some of POD courtesy, you only need favourites from customers. That way you can draw enough conclusions on which designs are with high quality and which aren't. Concerning these people with low designs count yet with 10+k favourites don't waste your time on such thing, cuz favourites mean nothing !! Only sales will rank you up in the whatever niche you're designing for. These people are using bots or spending half of their time bulk randomly favouring other's designs just in hope these artists will favorite their designs back. It's a stupid thing been promoted by all these fake POD gurus I got artists on one of my Redbubble shops favouring my stuff like crazy, while the only stuff i sell "and eventually rank high for" are designs that got 7 or 5 favourites all from customers. You got all these gurus trying to sell you their affiliate link into some bot, or telling you you need to get crazy amount of favourites in order to rank high up the search results......etc Just scroll down past them, they're scams. Zen's advice is always worth listening to.

Wow, thanks for explaining. Now it makes sense as I couldn't understand what was going on. It's quite disheartening though as I'd rather have a few genuine favourites out of someone appreciating my art than some useless bots giving me thousands of likes.

Those kawaii coffee cups are cute (like my alliteration?) could posting the same ones in a couple different colors be a good scale up? Not everyone wants a pink cup in the middle of their tshirt. Even just offering the same designs in say black or a mocha color could help you add more designs. Oh and with a slight alteration the same basic designs could be made into cups of boba. That a dozen more designs you could up load and another set of customers.

That is a great point - making variants like that is a great strategy! 👍

Favorited doesn't mean jack. Sales only matter.

I find it somewhat hard to know what designs that sold should be made more of all the time because I constantly create newer different styles & niches that also sell. Many different style designs seem to sell for me with the exception of my main niche selling a lot of fo me so far.

That is literally the greatest problem to have! I love the creativity to try new niches, awesome!

Yes. Favorites are basically meaningless. I logged into one of my stores and liked approx. 5K products in another store I own. Guess how much of an effect this had on sales. ZERO. 😁

There are also apps that use bots to help you gain favorites...I won't use them as PCWorld mag indicated they're typical virus/malware traps...

I paused this video in the beginning because right away I liked a lot of the designs I saw. I went to the shop and ended up favoring a bunch of them, and following the artist. But I also sent a bubble mail and explained to them that if they start using a bot, I will have to unfollow. Because that is a mistake I already made. It clogs up your activity feed, and you have to scroll for days, just to see what you're really interested in. I might like their stuff, and want to see their new uploads, but I don't want bots clogging up my feed. I've also quickly learned that giving a few reciprocal likes generates more likes for me. But I am a serious artist, not just in it for the money, and those are the types of artists I will follow. No bots for me! I also have a question for you.. Are you aware of some kind of Merch by Amazon scam? I ask because I was contacted through bubble mail, and offered a Merch by Amazon account that said it's already set up and I just have to go change the details, and then I can be on Amazon too. Sounded very fishy to me. I replied that I've already applied to Merch by Amazon, but I thanked them for the offer. So, I was just wondering if you know anything about this..
