I purchased one of these boxes and it’s a complete rip off. I received a “gem mint 10” nobody and it was damaged on all 4 corners and was still graded a 10. I think these are not really graded by Beckett.
These are BCCG. Not the same as BGS graded. That Griffey RC in a BGS 10 Pristine will sell for twice what a PSA 10 would. BGS 9.5 is more comparable to PSA 10.
Yeah.. this is pretty lame.. they probably bought a ton of those Phillies WS sets from a vendor in Philadelphia who ended up with a storage room full of them.. and then shipped them off to Beckett to get them graded cheaply in volume, knowing Beckett would give them a lot of soft 10s, and stuck them all in these things.
Lol this is the first time that I am happy that I missed out on the Patreon only sponsorship. I always miss these by a few minutes so Hahaha to these earlybirds.
Haven't finished the video, but I just saw these at Walmart.... passed on em at the time due to how much they were lol. Edit: Finished the vid.... good thing I passed on em lol
Those bonus backs are 2008 Topps Kmart Gold Rookie Variations btw. BCCG will grade any card a 10 as long as it's in semi-decent shape. Enjoyed the video.
I was totally expecting lower grades. What a great way to get rid of lower graded cards that you couldn't get good money for by selling induvidually. It's possile that the grading on these is even done in house at the packaging company under some special agreement, like when the "FDA inspector" just works in one processing plant.
One of the possibilities of the cuto signing is because he does know how to write his name, he didn’t grow up know the English language and know how to spell it. Many autos from young players outside the us usually have either childish or very sloppy autos
I agree with you regarding PSA grading being superior in the hobby, and is also what I collect. As far as grading goes, there is a huge difference between BCCG and BCG. BCCG is like a preliminary grading system, not to be mistaken for BCG which is actual grading and authenticating platform. Not to up-play BECKETT, or anything, but you rarely see any BCG 10's on the market
You might get a 9.5NM from BCG and sent to PSA and get a 10. I've heard PSA can be a little more lenient when it comes to grades. As far as BCCG you might as well save your money, pretty much all come back 10mint and if you send it back for a BCG they usually will come back a BCG 8.5. SGC has been making a strong come up lately as well. They grade a little differently with their point system but they are a great company.
Erik I actually opened my box finally. I received an autograph in the 2008 Upper Deck Pack. Auto was Frank Catalanotto. The graded was a purple parallel Aroldis Chapman World Series card
Thanks for the shout out. I was jealous of the Hamels card (and the Howard card too) - lol. You & I are in a tight fantasy battle this week. Minter killed your ERA tonight. Nice video
The 2018 Topps were the hobby packs not the Upper Deck.. if you look at the front bottom right of the 2018 Topps pack you see the Hobby pack logo there. Also, those are BCCG graded cards which is the budget option for Beckett grading.. BGS is the better option for Beckett.
I've seen a couple of these opened, not sure why people think the Upper Deck X series is the hobby pack but it seems pretty common. Your hobby pack was the 2018 Topps. Great content by the way! (They should bring back the Show codes for 2019 Topps)
I bought a Franco Harris BCCG9 a few yrs back for about 20 bucks..NOW Im worried lol..It Looks good with a slight off center and some fish eyes but good color, edges and cornors..Prob a PSA 7 now that I see how these grades are
These comments like "I got one of these boxes and got that exact Cole Hammel graded card." Has me weak. At the same time under those comments a secondary laugh was had when others say, "me too." Thank you very much for these real laughs!
Yeah. I bought one of these a few days back and I got an Adrian Gonzales from like 06 Fleer or something. Luckily I bought 2 value packs of 2019 Bowman and pulled a 2/5 Taylor Ward from the Angels.
I got 2 of these boxes yesterday too. I got much more variety on the graded cards. Each box I got 3 2019 topps packs, 2 triple play, 2 2018 topps series 1, bunt 2017, and 2017 topps series 2 hobby pack. The graded cards were 2008 ud first edition star quest ken Griffey Jr card. The other box was a 2012 history of baseball leaf cut signature card of Dixie Howell. So there is variety. Just looks like you got crappy luck on this one.
I bought one this week in Alabama and got a 2008 Upper Deck A-rod graded card. My bonus item was an Arizona Cardinals nylon wallet. I also got 3 Triple Play packs and the same Topps and Upper Deck “X” pack. Fun, but not $20 fun.
You can definitely pull an auto out of Upper Deck X. There's a 10 card UDX Signatures set that has a Jeter and Griffey Jr.. I pulled a J.R. Towles auto from some Upper Deck X packs that were for sale at a Dollar Tree. Wish I'd have bought the whole box lol. Great video Jabs!!!
Hey Eric, I agree that those are kinda junk boxes. I wonder if Beckett is damaging those corners when they just throw the card in the one touch. Same corner or corners damaged. Possible?
I bought one of these last night, got a BCCG rated 10 Matt Holliday from 2015 that looking at wouldn’t get anywhere near that by PSA or Beckett’s regular grading service. If I had to guess, I’d say they got cheap cards cheaply graded, and packaged them with old leftover packs, and it’s not worth the $20 price tag.
In 2018 Bruce Maxwell pointed a gun at a delivery driver, then in handcuffs video shows him spouting off about how he is such a victim and cops are bad.
BGS is the official Beckett grading service. They are harsher than PSA in my opinion. BCCG is a retail grading service Beckett offers. Next to worthless.
Fairly new sub here and love your channel. Been out of the collecting seen for years but you got me interested enough to check out some of my old cards which I am pleasantly surprised of some of the values. I found these at my local walmart and bought 4 boxes, 3 of them had cut autos of worthless no names, the other box had a broken graded case and had to take it back. Don't think I will buy anymore.
Thanks for sharing! Beckett either likes to give everything a 10 or they have terrible graders!?!? Funny thing is...they have a hard time grading in their BGS version above 9.5 or 10 even when they ARE 10s!
I see the 2018 Update blasters up in front....you should buy all of those. Most Walmarts have them marked down to $15. Hobby boxes of 2018 Update have shot up in price, now selling for more than $100.
I got the Hamels card too last night, and all my packs were the same as well. From a Walmart in Illinois. Pretty disappointed, but I expected it going in so oh well.
Found a jumbo pack of 2017 Update at Walmart today and pulled 3 variations (base, ASG, debut) of Bellinger rookies. Was literally thinking it was a card I didn’t have this morning before I took my son to Walmart.
You don’t know what you’re talking about a Beckett 10 Griffey went for $3,500 while PSA 10 goes for $500. A becket 9.5 only goes for around $200 but Beckett 10’s are much harder to get
So the yellow border '08 cards were a K-Mart exclusive set, similar to the Target and Walmart parallels currently, except that the 2008 K-Mart cards were the "top" rookies only. Also, as far as Johnny Cueto's signature on that card, for the facsimile signatures, Topps/Bowman use the players signature from the first contract they signed with the company, and it is very common for foreign players to have very simplistic signatures on their early contracts. Especially with players coming from countries who use entirely different alphabets (i.e. Japan and Russia) it is very common for their early signatures to look like they are just simply writing their names out. Pretty much just like it would be for players going the other way, Americans playing in Russia (not that there are many, or any really) or Japan I'm sure just sign their names in English, but I'm sure some try to adopt the foreign language and at first don't add any artistic details to those signatures. And you are correct, Cueto's current signature is much more elaborate than this one was!
Is Cueto from Russia or Japan? Perhaps he just didn't know how to write in cursive, as he has basically the same alphabet as English. My 10 year old son and I had a good chuckle when that "signature" came up, as it looked like when he tried to fake my signature on a school paper recently.
I have now watched 5 of these openings today, and the Hamels was in three of them. What's up with the 2019 Topps packs? There all base, and only 10 cards per pack (Blasters had 14, retail boxes had 16). I think I'll pass on these.
I'm sure it's also a matter of location too. I got one of the target boxes with an auto and relic card and the packs were different from what you got in a video
I bought two of these boxes last week. Got a Pablo Sandoval and Chris Herman 2013 Topps both were 10. But still seems like a repetitive issue with boxes located at stores. Dunno but you just pulled three with two repeats. And yes PSA is at the top.
I disagree with you on the PSA versus BGS arguement. While I agree that PSA cards are worth more (and I'm not sure why), I've seen so many cards get a PSA 10 that would be a 9.5 or worse from BGS. I don't know what BCCG is, but it isn't the BGS grading that I've been paying at least $25 a card for for the last year or two. BGS has subgrades, and an auto grade, so many people send 9 auto cards to PSA just to get a 10. I'd much rather collect a card with subgrades and a 10 auto grade for cheaper than PSA single grade cards.
Interesting. I just noticed the football version and that includes a relic AND a graded card along with packs. But this is also from that terrible Walmart repack company that did the boys of summer box you hate
I bought two of those boxs and they didnt have the bonus item and had 2013 pinicale and nothing else good and i got the same crappy graded card for both boxes
Recent eBay 1989 UD Griffey Jr. Graded “Sold” averages: PSA 10: $500, with one sold at $2700 BGS 10: $3000 BGS 9.5: $350 BGS seems to have the more “weight” as far as resale values are concerned. Not including personal preferences, just facts.
You don’t get hits because you look for them too hard, you chase them away. I noticed that when you opened the 92 Bowman, you were sweating those hits and they never came. Maybe If you had some fun with the triple play, luck will come your way.
These are sweet, if you dont like them, that's your opinion and I respect it. I pulled a Yu Darvish graded 10 and a lot of other cool stuff, I dont remember what my bonus item was though. I also like the triple play, some of them are cool
As far as the Cueto goes, the signature is taken from their rookie contracts. Lots of players coming over from other countries don't yet know how to sign their name in English.
"In English?" 😂😂 It's the same alphabet/letters unless they are coming from Japan/Korea, for example. Unless you meant in cursive, but that gave me a good belly slap. Good stuff.
I wonder if there's actually a box out there that has a graded Cobb or Wagner? A case could be made for false advertising if there's not some type of disclaimer on the box saying otherwise. I just wish I could go back to '86 when I was 10 and buy packs for 50 cents or a buck. Literally every card was a prized possession and immediately went into a penny sleeve. Favorite players and star players got upgraded to a toploader. Now, 32 years latter, I'm buying online spots for Jumbo Hobby Box Case Breaks because anything worth collecting will cost you $80 a pop. Still though, I'm 42, own somewhere around 240,000+ cards, and I've never thrown a single one away.
