I can totally connect to what you have said in this video, Shelly. I love reading my fair share of Non-Fictions but I don't want to read anything more about what I am currently living/experiencing. I don't mind reading it from a different period but living and reading my current reality, will slowly and surely send me into a serious depressive state🤷‍♀️ That being said the two books that stood out to me also from this list are ‘The Marriage Question’ and maybe posiiblibly ‘The Talk’ Again like the last list, I have enough in my library to get to, so I doubt I‘m going to be rushing to read any of them soon. Thanks for sharing, as this keeps me informed about the newer releases💕

Kelly! I'm so sorry about the delayed reply. We are on the same page. The Marriage Question and The Talk sounded the most interesting to me. :)

Thanks for sharing the list and doing the research for us. I totally agree the George Eliot one sounds best and I kind am intrigued by the artic race one maybe because I lived in Alaska for a while. Happy summer reading!!

I nearly always read to escape reality! I long for the days of 30 minutes only of news each day. There was only time for the facts, not opinions. Now we are smothered by the same bad/sad news continuously and poor behavior is considered news. Non-fiction is not ususlly my forte, but the Elliot sounds good as well as the ocean one. Thank you for the info!🙂

“give me something that doesn’t remind of now” I can totally relate to. I am super happy within my days but yes I definitely want escapism within my books too. I guess that’s why I like historical fiction so much. Thank you for sharing these with us. I took note of The Talk. In general I am not super Non fiction heavy within my reading. I saying having just finished one yesterday 😂

Historical fiction is the best escapism.

I'm not a huge celebrity memoir person either, but if I had to chose one to read this year, Pageboy would be up there. The Sullivanians and The Underworld also sounds interesting. I enjoy these types of videos since I don't usually seek out info about new releases! -Becks

Oh, how wonderful! I'm glad this piqued your interest in some way. :)

Of all of these, Underworld sounds the most exciting to me. Even more than Pageboy, which I happen to have out from the library at the moment, and which I haven’t yet started. I can relate to your desire to be transported elsewhere by whatever book you pick up. I tried three different audiobooks before I settled on one about raising backyard chickens (Under the Henfluence).
@Shellyish
@Shellyish Год назад
Ha! Yes, sometimes chickens seem more foreign and exciting than the latest hot-topic release. I'm curious as to what you'll make of Pageboy.

I had basically the same reaction to the list: too many serious and depressing issues. I am unlikely to read any of them this summer (though it’s likely some of them will show up in the Booktube Prize next year).
@Shellyish

Yes! I thought the same thing! That many of these title will show up on the Booktube Prize list for next year. :)

The Soul of an Octopus is amazing! It is an all time favorite book. Lilly and the Octopus by Steven Rowley is also an amazing all time favorite book!

I am going to read The Soul of an Octopus sometime this year. I'm determined.

Well, none of them sound like must-reads for me, which is good for my wallet. The Visionaries caught my attention first. After that, it's a tie between between deep sea life and how the heat will kill me. I'm already dreading the heat of summer, so I think I'd pass on that until later in the year. A Most Tolerant Little Town and The Talk do sound moving. All the others sound OK, but just OK.

Yes! O.K., the perfect word for it. All the choices seem quite middling.

Of those _The Marriage Question_ sounds like the only one I would read. A lot of non-fiction seems to have such a narrow focus; and things like climate change, I know the general gist, but I’m not going to be in a position of trying to sway somebody’s vote on something, or opinion, so I skip that.
@Shellyish
@Shellyish Год назад
Yes! The narrow focus isn't my forte.

If you are interested in a book to take you to an otherworldly place, you might want to escape to Shangri-La by reading _Lost Horizon_ (1933) by James Hilton. I just read it and liked it a lot. Have you read it?
@Shellyish
@Shellyish Год назад
I have not! Should I?
@mediumjohnsilver

@@Shellyish Yes. I think it is worth reading, if only to learn the original story of Shangri-La. Wonderful escapist fun.

I'm exactly the opposite, I want to read about the heat that is going to kill us first, but definitely not about the deepest ocean. 😉

I love non fiction and read a lot of history, not current affairs. I also enjoy biographies but prefer the subject to be dead ( sounds bad 😐)
