Ive done 2,000 miles in my Megane Iconic and it drives like a hot hatch. Reminds me a bit of a A class but drive is sharp and really sporty. Even on 20" rims and a bit heavy the suspension is tuned very well and you'd never no its a fairly heavy EV.
So the key selling points for the Jeep are "the buttons work", "it's not that bad", and a "JEEP" logo. Good thing it's more expensive than the other two, so you can show off while you charge (very often due to the small battery). BTW, if the Megane's boot is too deep, they have an optional raised floor with stowage compartments underneath.
Ive had my MG4 Trophy Long Range for about 3 months and absolutely love it! I was a bit skeptical of quality and build initially it being an MG and made in China and all but the car has pleasantly surprised me!
Wait until something goes wrong, and it will, there is a reason MG has 73% one star rating on trustpilot, mainly for customer service, i mean waiting months for spare parts and they will find anything they can to not repair under warranty, i had an mg HS did 1063 miles and couldn't cope any longer so counted my losses and got a new Renault Megane e tech, bit like jumping out of a 30 year old lada into a rolls royce
Why didn’t they use the MG4 Trophy 64KwH? It has the same range as others and is a lot cheaper. Feels a bit manufactured TBH although do agree with the conclusion that the Megane is the winner at this price.
Thanks for the review. Today we did a test drive in the BYD Dolphin (Design) 60kW version, with 204bph and 310 Nm. Everything standard, even panoramic roof with electric sunscreen. We liked it a lot better than the MG4 extended range. But we will wait until we had a ride in the Citroën ë-C3 before we decide. The Citroën is a smaller EV with less range and less features, but he, around €10.000 cheaper, that counts also.
I highly do NOT recommend the e-C3, I've had it 1 years and it's a piece of junk. Every drive annoys me - for example, the on-board computer has neither the drive time nor the consumption since the start of the drive nor since the last charge. You are always driving blind. The infotainment is slow and useless. It doesn't compare with anything modern. I also bought it for the price and honestly? It wasn't worth the savings. Not to mention the cold gate, where in the winter that car charges worse on DC than a 2015 e-Golf. never again Stellantis.
Lovely presentation, they are all still vehicles that are similar shape, suv/hatchback/crossover, they all do exactly the same thing. Jeep Avenger for me, just for the price point and look
Nobody ever seems to mention how odd it looks. Hated it the first time I saw it and still do. For people who want a cheap EV with all the bells and whistles it works though.
By 2030 I forsee many legacy automakers disappearing. Suzuki will be first as they don't have a single BEV in their range so they won't be selling their 22% BEVs In 2024 (ZEV Mandate)
@@RobertDodgeyup there will be struggles, but I think a lot will make it, i do think they are intentionally dragging heels, keeping prices high, lobbying against policy changes. Once there is a bit of good competition suddenly all the German and Japanese brands will start pulling their finger out and start mass producing more basic cars. Or continue going for the premium market and hope for the best. Who knows let's wait and see what happens. At the end of the day would you rather have a VW or a honda or a relatively unknown brand. That game won't work in the long run though as people figure out who makes the best cars, and start trusting the new brands. Hyundai an Kia used to be jokes but now are way up there with the best EVs.
I test drove the MG4 and it was good and bad. Wind noise and the whistle was present, the whistle apparently is due to the trophy's rear spoiler which also reduces range. Bluetooth connection to my phone was impossible and the screen froze when trying to use the HVAC controls. LKA is awful. Efficiency is not good. Cabin quality is cheap and not too cheerful. Drives well enough and acceleration is good. IMO.
Tried the MG and thought it was really cheap inside, totally a class apart from the Mégane. The rear view mirror is not a gimmick but does take some getting use to. The camera is inside so need to keep the rear window wiped to get the best from it. Also, I leave the Regen in the lowest setting and only use the other settings for cornering or anticipation of stopping.
Moved up from an eUP! to the MG4 Extended Range, very happy with my choice, good price to function ratio. Not managed 4 kW/m so far but…… And it does handle quite well.
I really love the Avenger. It's a great looking supermini. But there are things that annoy me. The ipad cover is a dreadful solution and how it ever made it beyond an idea on a napkin I don't know. I sat in a left hand drive model last year and was thrilled to see a heated windscreen button! But as with so many manufacturers they decided not to offer it in the UK. WHY? I'd spec it on any new car. But the real kicker is Stellantis pricing (Citroen aside) as it's way off. The Avenger is a £30k max vehicle all day long.
Nicola is so much fun. The vehicles are total rubbish (58k pounds for a 9sec fwd cuv Jeep?!?!). I saw Nicola and I had to watch the vid.. The hat was awesome! 🙂
If we go full electric with the next car, it'll be a Megane, I think Jeep is too small for passengers, boot too small on the MG Nice review again, we'll see how the figures pan out
It seems to me that there has been a proliferation of YT videos comparing MG4s of different specs to pretty much everything. And they all find a reason to choose something else. Yet the stand-out reason for getting an MG4 is the price.-the only reason someone might buy the Extended Range over the Standard or "Short" range would be, duh, the longer range! So completely ignoring the range issue is simply bonkers. If you're going to ignore the range issue, then you should be looking at the standard range, which costs one-hell-of-a-lot-less. And that makes the choice a lot more interesting. How much does that perceived quality really cost you? When the difference is 150km (when you don't need it), then the choice may be easy, but 4 grand (or more) is a lot of beer vouchers, especially if driving from a to b is all you really need to do.
@@mrhdebater1607 Yeah, I know. I was just pointing out the basic falacies of so many of these "Comparisons". If they want to demonstrate the validity of buying, for example, an Megane, then they should stop with the BS and just tell us under what circs it might be the better buy. Personally, I am completely uninterested in anything with FWD, no matter how well it drives. Seriously we've been fed a diet of fwd "family" cars for what, 40 years? Now that it is possible to get RWD family cars,
@@davidcolin6519 It's a show designed to draw viewership. If picking a car was that easy then we'd all drive the same car. Many people wouldn't care about your opinion either if FWDs are cheaper than RWDs. I myself was an RWD driver, but now I don't care as long as the car works and doesn't bankrupts me as an owner.
@@mrhdebater1607 "If picking a car was that easy then we'd all drive the same car." Not at all, there aremany reasons why people buy the cars they buy, and range is just one of them. Personally, I think far too many people obsess about EV range, especially people who barely and rarely do more than 100 miles in a week. The vast majority hardly ever do round trips of over 100-150 miles, yet they insist on cars which have a range of more than 250! And how well automation works may be a much more important factor than even having that automation. There really are very few things that are more annoying than overzealous automations. My last car had automatic windscreen wipers that were more of a nuisance than a benefit, just one example. What I find interesting is that MG seem to be dealing with updates far better than most of the legacy (European) brands. FWIU, they have been updating their software very much in line with most cusyomers' needs, hardly something that can be said of most automakers. Having said that, if you start out with a (very) good base point, it is much easier to adjust to customers' needs. Having started out driving when both FWD and RWD were available at all levels of car ownership, and gone on to a time when only FWD was available to all except the "premium" brands, I am personally delighted that RWD is available to all again. But, as you pointed out, that is a personal choice, as is the point of how much a driver enjoys driving. I dare say that, if I lived in the UK, I almost certainly wouldn't get much enjoyment out of driving either. But I don't, and I do.
Too many variables. Ideal would be a standardized web tool where you can enter temperature, height difference driving, airconditioning and wheel setup etc etc
@@montanax8127 I’m not sure it needs to be that complicated. The EV database does a fairly good job of estimating real world range under various conditions.
@@RobertDodge unfortunately I have the same problem (MG4 Trophy). Think is the sealing on some rear panel or something, couldn't figured it out yet, neither could the 2 dealerships I brought the car to.
Earlier comment verified by another viewer says it's the small window by the wing mirror that causes the noise. One commenter taped it up and the other had the dealer remove it and reseal it both fixed the issue
Like the Avenger, similar to’t BYD no dealers near me..! MG has the software settings problem that apparently can’t be fixed coz of crash test ..😂😂😂😂ohh and do you get any feedback about MG4 doing random emergency stops when there’s nowt there 😮 a RU-vidr reported this on screen tuther day…and again…software can reduce sensitivity but again it forgets the user setting…already 🙄. Renault looks promising but those tyres wouldn’t last a week around here, we have to have 8” deep moon craters on our roads….Renault show sense with the paddles, assume there’s a model with smaller wheels to suit our roads…! But hey prices need addressing car makers..!
Manos definitely needs an Avenger. I’ve noticed you’re the official supporter of Motability. Please please could you include accessibility of cars. Plus the Jeep Avenger has a £0 advance payment, and a heat pump and a powered boot. So it’s a winner for me, I think, but it would be so good if you could assess how useful cars are for someone with dexterity issues and who needs easy access and stuff. Given that electric cars are cheap on motability and expensive for others, it’s likely that motability customers will make up a large number of first time cheap ev buyers. Love the content, by the way, I’m being entirely selfish. And please give Manos an Avenger. That’s actually the most important issue.
I would not BUY new... leasing for 1 or 2 years is super cheap. Then if you love it, a 2 year old can be purchased in 2026...!! Personally I would go for the new Scenic EV.
Or even worse if you want an estate...yer know, with proper practicaliy for carrying a pack of 3 be 2, plasterboard and a bag of board finish from been n queued....and a couple of dogs slishing around in the back at the weekend. Your choice is......an mg5 😖
Glasses yes 🤓 Straw hat, not sure 👒 I really liked the Megane, the quality is impressive. But it is tight in the back seats. It's very narrow and your feet don't fit under the seats. That narrowness carries into the boot, not even a metre between the wheel wells. So it may be large in volume, but it isn't that practical and the load lip is massive, so you have to lift everything up and over. Great car if you aren't fussed about practicality
I have the same thoughts as yourself. Although the boot is a good bit bigger, it isn't as functional or economic. I tried getting some golf clubs in and had to fold the seat down (all of the cars here would struggle) and the big step up from the boot made it a pain to get them in and out. The other 2 are flat with the seats down.
@@gibroon4418 great point about the golf clubs, volume isn't everything. I have a giant hockey goalie bag and that wouldn't fit in the boot of the Megane, but it does in an MG4. Be great to see reviewers actually do a practical test with a longer item to see if it fits
Like you said about the back seats, I also noticed the space difference for passengers. It wasn't bad in the Mégane but definitely more cramped compared to the MG4. The style is better in the Renault and I did like the driver display but just can't understand the 3 stalks on the right of the steering wheel, all just a bit busy.
Could you not get a Volvo EX30 instead of the Jeep? Or was the plan to have a pre-determined outcome of a winner & losers? It was obvious the Megane would win this from the outset. The Volvo would make a much more compelling alternative.
you can afford a tesla because you have a big private pension, shares and get paid by your subcribers, but we ordinary low paid people can never afford a decent ev like tesla because our parents, ancestors never stole wealth
Another stupid scare story. The gulley system doesn't breach any rules. If they did the local authorities wouldn't give permission. But this is just one of a multitude of misleading stories. I suppose we'll finish up with some bollocks about EVs creating a portal to another dimension or some shit like that. In reality I just keep having I laugh and continue happily driving my EV in the same way that I drive my diesel Volvo, long distances, short distances, charging it at home, charging on public chargers, I have waited once at a charger for 5mins - and that was because a petrol tanker, waiting to refill the fuel storage tanks, was blocking half the chargers. My car has never exploded, my house and garage have never burnt down, my android/Google system has always worked perfectly. My brakes cause no pollution because I use the cars regen system - unique to EVs. But, keep them coming and I hope your fantasies are paying dividends with your RU-vid channel. Bon courage!
EVs are way over priced, there's no way they can blame those inflated prices on just Batteries. People aren't going to switch to electric in the numbers required to make any difference until they make desirable and affordable ones.
True, cheaper and desirability is always welcome, but sales so far this year are up 22% globally over last year. FYI battery cost has come down by as much as 50% over the last year or two, but this is only a small part of overall cost, large scale production is key to cheap pricing. The more we buy, the cheaper they will become.
Absolutely and the huge discounts you can get show it. they are absolutely the worst for this - £40k+ for a 308 EV? They’re just trying to catch a few gullible souls whilst giving fleets 20%+ discounts.
They are no worse than VAG. Overpriced and all of them are finding out that nobody has any interest in these vehicles at these pricepoints. The prices need to come down substantially. The Chinese manufacturers are much closer to reality in terms of affordability.
Had my Megane for two months and love it. I went for the Techno+ trim which does without the digital rear view mirror and the somewhat gaudy gold flashes on the front.
The wind noise in MG is a manufacturer's fault which I have had from new and MG hasn't done anything about it. Perhaps someone from MG sees it and they finally issue some sort of recall. Another great review by Nicola, my favourite car reviewer. ❤ Next to Thomas and James from Throttle House
Thank you Nic and your two twins for a great review and for having Mike appear even briefly, I would agree that the MG4 isn't suited to those of us in the vertically enhanced category. :)
I picked up a dealer demo MG4 so I got all the bonus goodies when I wasn't intending to do that. The 360o cam was good when I was parallel parking. Took my parents to the airport and couldn't fit both cases in the boot and had to put it in the backseat. Also the voice recognition is useless with my accent. Software is slow, especially on start up. But the car parts of the car are great, drives well goes fast. very good range. Sadly the price of the megane is at model 3 levels here, I think its cheaper in europe.
Megane for me BUT by God, does it need a panoramic roof! It is so dark and claustrophobic in there but pano roof not even available as an option. Massive shame. Just about all EVs at this price point have them. Ticks every other box for my wants. Still not sure about efficiency though real world.
I think you get a lot of bang-for-buck with the MG, but the interior just seems very cheap. This video is solid proof that Stellantis EVs are very overpriced. I agree with all three Nicolas - the Renault is the best of this bunch
This channel is refreshing that is not another heil Tesla be all end all fanboy channel. The extreme gimmickiness of Tesla and lack of physical controls and false claims on FSD are really turn off for potential EV customers.
I don't get the Jeep! It's the most expensive, the least powerful, the smallest & it got car of the year last year before it even went on sale!!! Nuts. For our 1st EV we bought a 1 year old low miles '22 plate Kona Ultimate 64kWh. Excellent efficiency, not too big, great price (half of what it was when new) & in 9 months of ownership we haven't used a public charger yet. IMO buying used is the only way owning & running an EV makes sense as second car for local trips & if possible charged at home. For longer trips we use my large ice estate car.
You can get a delivery miles Citroen e c4x for just 20k from stallantis and you. P11d on those are 34k. I think leasing is the way to go on these, then you don’t get hit on the deprecation.
