When you have the controls for music on the steering wheel, you have to rearrange your grip. But when you have it behind the steering wheel you don't have to readjust 👌
Everyone hates on it but I’ve driven Renaults on and off for decades. The stalk radio control is such a well sorted thing. It’s brilliant, it just works, it’s so intuitive. I feel we should all show it more love!
I believe, I’m quite sure really, the radio control was introduced with the Renault 25 back in … 1984 😃 and it’s been there ever since! It was intuitive right from the bat. I did own a 25GTX Phase 1, MARK I (couldn’t resist). Fabulous car! The comfort… and incredibly spacious, especially in the back. Front seats like sofas! Back to the audio part: the double DIN Philips 4x20W Radio Cassette unit (graphic equaliser included, how very eighties :) a very decent amplifier (especially for the time period) and 4 (or 6) speakers (dual cone) as standard. Not bad, not bad at all. The Renault radio stalk rules! I’m showing it renewed and therefore more love Mark! Take care, Philyvo
It is brilliant - you can really annoy your passengers - change station, source, song as often as you like. If they’ve not driven a Renault no one can figure out you’re doing it. Simple but a lot of fun 🤣
They have it on their trucks as well, although I will mark them down as on the trucks I have scraped my knuckles on them if I hold the wheel by it's spokes. I do like Renaults I still drive my 2006 scenic that I got when it was 2yo. I'm still waiting for it to go wrong so I can get a new car. 🤷🏼♂️
The PRND on a simple little stalk that you could overpress-select & go fwd instead of reversing. There's no fail-safe. My Scenic MK3 Auto has a lovely big knob that you press & select surely. But on a little stalk? The French ooooh la la.
I still have Renault Scenic 2 2003 diesel ,its so versitale car with like 10 hidden drawers and tons off space inside ,now i mostly use it just 2 tow a caravan. But will this car live 21 years like my Scenic does(and i plan to keep it at least 5 years more) ,ironically only problems i had with scenic was all kinds off electric stuff ,engine and transmition all still run perfect even i tow 1.5 ton caravan with it
In France its full of old beaten up Scenics and similar cars, full of kids and stuff, going down the road. They're ugly as ugly can be, but I think for people who need them, they cant be beaten for the price.
@@lilietto1 I have 2 newer cars which have all moderns stuff like dual clutch automatic ,line assist and adaptive cruise control but i kind off afraid to use them for towing becase any repair on transmition would cost multiply times off worth off my old Scenic (also one is gas car so towing is out question) .So why throw away something that works and gets job done and cost so little to keep on the road
I seriously don't understand this review, all the reviews I see said that this car is pretty brilliant for the price. So i test one myself and I found the driving experience pretty good.
“Euro NCAP says physical buttons will be “incentivised” in car safety tests from 2025. Car makers have been advised by Euro NCAP not to have important car functions on touchscreens, the idea behind coercing car makers to include more physical controls is to remove the growing reliance on touchscreens for basic car functions and keep the driver’s attention on the road ahead. “ Probably why most new cars have physical buttons for functions again.
@@letter1014 Meh, I enjoy the no buttons interface. Never had a problem with it, voice and steering wheel controls mitigate any need to really look away from the road. I understand that some might not like it, but if so they shouldn't buy a car with that design.
Remember when each car brand had its own unique design and style? If you covered the badges on this I genuinely would not be able to tell if it was a VW ID, a Peugeot or even an 'MG'. All crossover EVs look like they've been designed by the same team.
To be fair, the Renault Austral and Espace look quite distinctive, and then Renault took a wrong turn and we got the Rafale, Scenic, as well as the updated Clio and Captur. If I'm not mistaken, the former Peugeot designer is now responsible for the design of the latest Renault cars. Unfortunately, this is noticeable:(
@@ДимаТимощенко-х7дyeah Gilles Vidal was formerly Peugeot chief designer now he works at Renault. This Scenic looks a lot more like Peugeot 3008 than VW ID tho, the grill isn't too visible in this dark blue violet color but once it's visible it looks more like a Peugeot than a VW
5:10 - Renault knows that you shouldn't be driving with your elbow in that position, so they made it very uncomfortable to deter drivers from doing that.
The car came out ages ago and we still don't have a review. Still waiting on the reviews for new Tiguan, the Lexus LBX, the Mini... They're too busy making stupid drag race videos
@@msimomi Have to agree with you there. The did not Review LBX, New Cooper, New Countryman, new Tiguan, new Kodiaq, New Superb, Ioniq 5 N, New Formentor, Leon and the e3008. I hate these Drag Races. Only about stupid Tuned Cars where nobody cares.
Matt being a typical salty Brit while testing a great French car. Ignores most of the best parts about it, the best bits are "pretty good" at best, and makes up a bunch of problems that don't exist (like the door handle one or the brakes being too sensitive, which they aren't, or that the radar cruise control doesn't brake and would just crash into a car, which is definitely not the case, etc.). It's okay Matt, we know you hate the fact that the entire British car industry is owned by Germany, India and China, and the French is still domestic, so it's a way of coping to have to a totally negative stance when you review French cars and making up a bunch of issues that aren't actually there.
I think this will sell very well as the Peugeot 3008 EV is more expensive. Yes the petrol model is similar in price but with typical Stellantis style the EV model is £10,000 more than the petrol.
Well if people buy them, car manufacturers will continue to make them. I imagine the people who buy them are the same people who prefer artificial grass to the real stuff
I had the second gen Scenic. You could find storage space anywhere, under the seats and on the floor. You could remove completely the back seats. Wtf happened to MPVs??
That wobbly feeling could be due to a structural problem of electric cars with flat batteries. Due to their flat shape, even if they sit low (and that gives the car a low center of gravity, which is good for handling), they are wide which is very prejudicial to one of the three moments of inertia. Unless the car compensates that with a very stiff suspension, which compromises ride comfort, it is going to have that wobbly feeling. Very few manufacturers have actually decided to go for narrower batteries with inverted T shape (using the space the transmission tunnel would leave) to improve that, but then you have a slightly higher center of gravity. Still, they tend to handle better and allow for better suspension solutions, such as the Polestar 2. Just a guess, I don't know the car nor have I driven it.
We need grand kangoo with 87 kWh battery for proper 7 seater ev. We also need good phev power on grand kanggo, with 200 plus hp and around 100km of ev range....
the thing with the braking is a typical problem with Renault EV. Tested Zoé and Twingo E-tech and they also have this weird brake curve. it's probably linked to the way mecanical brakes take over at low speed when regen braking is too weak.
No car brand out there does better than Renault, to come up with a model that defines the category, and then after a couple of years crashed and mediocred by the brand itself.
See as nice as this looks I’m more than a little disappointed in Renault, they had the opportunity to be the first of the EU manufacturers to bring out a dedicated MPV as its namesake was but they went down Ford route and simply used an well known old name on a completely different vehicle, which is a shame because I think the MPV would have actually sold better as it’s something that the market is very short on right now.
In this Renault, you can just tap the door handles (not the grabby end but somewhere in the middle). the handles will come out if you are outside the car and it's unlocked
Had the car for a full day's test drive and there's nothing wrong with it, in gmfact it's a very good car. Some of the negative points the reviewer makes are traits of a bloke that has OCD rather than the car having faults.....he's being picky for the sake of it. Like many You Tube car reviewers, it feels like his verdict depends on what kind of mood he's in that day. It won't help taht he's probably stepped out of the latest Range Rover or Porsche to test this Renault. Like always, get yourself along and test drive the car you're looking at rather than listen to someone who drives a Porsche as his daily.
Separate stalk for audio is an amazing thing about Renault. When you turn the steering wheel, all the buttons turn with it, so you don't really know where each button is. The stalk stays in place, you always know where to reach for it
..or do something like Citroen do (or used to do) where the entire front panel of the wheel is fixed and only the outer rim turns, so all the buttons and functions are fixed.
@@real_swiftydragon or that, but the disadvantage to that is that for inspecting second-hand cars you don't see whether the steering wheel is perfectly alligned with the wheels
@@real_swiftydragon yes, but the stalk is also very convenient. Especially how you also don't have to move half your hand to reach a button, you just extend two fingers in the back. Idk, honestly I love the stalk method, it works great. I used to drive a Renault, then I switched to a Toyota and I missed the stalk a lot. Then I bought another Renault, and I was really excited to get the stalk back 😅
Renault scenic long range has 630 km range and 43000 euros for price + a good interior quality. Tesla 3 long range has 620 km range and 49000 euros for price + low cost interior quality . Make your choice.
@@Groaznic In this case , it 's worse for Tesla Y because Renault scenic is far cheaper ! Renault long range = 43000 euros Tesla Y long range = 52000 euros
@@stephen10. Oh wow that's a good price in your country, here in Finland the Renault long range is 49-53K depending on trim, and Tesla Y long range is 51K RWD, 54K AWD. So very comparable over here.
i like carwow and Matt is doing an excellent job, the only thing, is the destructive parts of the test... i get you want to "overexplain" something but the semi destructive handling of the car, especielly the Hood with the cables, i just don´t really like that.. it is not needed, an why treat a perfectly fine car like that, i know it is a review car, but in a world of limited ressource, i still don´t think it is okay.. but that is just me.
Next time you feel bad about limited resources google the photo of saint tropez harbour and you will be appalled by the amount of resource extravaganza.
And don't forget after all the journalist tests are done, the car is put into sale as a used car. And someone will buy it because he will like the car. This behavior can cause future problems to the new owner. So why do the journalists behave like this? Just because they can? Because it isn't their own car? Because the car maker (or its subsidiary in the respective country) is supposed to do all the repairs caused by these "joking journalists" at its cost?
Capture, Symbioz, Megane, Scenic, Rafale , they all look very similar and it is not just the usual corporate face, it is the whole SUV style that makes them a bit interchangable. They look quite good but is it necessary to copy the style across the whole range.
Unfortunately, all the listed models, with the exception of the Megane, very much resemble Peugeot. The design of Megane E-Tech, Austral and Espace is really recognizable and original, but it was quickly abandoned:(
I may be old (26yr), but for me, design era of Talisman was gorgeous- clean, elegant and sophisticated. Now we got vw id.3 in french trench coat. Why. Just why...
Note to Tesla who is charging the UK more than Europe, particularly the M3P which has been grossly overpriced in the U.K.- Renault are coming for your lunch, charging less in the U.K. than many European countries.
@@real_swiftydragonyeah, and the ‘having to lift things up to get it out’ also might save the paint on top of the bumper where otherwise heavier than expected luggage would scratch it
It's rare nowadays that cars get smaller wheels as they get a new generation! The previous Scenic got 20" wheels as standard on all models. But that was very unnecessary for an MPV so.

12:25 you don’t need to put your finger behind the handle to pull it back out, on my Megane Etech you just press the door handle near the edge like a button and it’ll pop back out for you 👍🏼
What happened with cars with three seats in the second row?? What are we people with three kids supposed to get? Citroen abandoned Grand Picasso, Renault use to have Scenic and now what?? Choice of cars with three seat in second row is just terrible.
Manufactures just seem to be copying everyone else! Every car is becoming the exact same and soon it will just be down to what your favorite car badge is!!
@@fug33 because no one’s making them! And if so, use a new name or people are going to be looking at them if they want a big family car and get disappointed immediately. Thats the point of branding.
i dont get it....why does this car has ambient lights in the back seat doors AND mirror for rear can turn from mirror into a scren for rear camera.....BUT NEW RAFAL DOESNT HAVE THOSE THIGNS !!!! aGHHHH
i currently own the megane etech EV and noticed that when you put your thumb over the multi-sense button it lights up and when you remove your thumb the light turns off. A neat little function if i do say so myself.
I still don't get that "rear windows should go all the way down" fetish. Why? How often you drive rear windows fully down open? I think it is even better, if rear windows do not open all the way down, it adds extra safety to rear smaller passengers, it prevents to lean too much out of window. Anyway, while driving, you 99,9% of time do not fully open rear windows, so I do not get it, why it is so important to especially every time mention that.
It's a strategy of filling the blanks: as a bad thing if you cannot find one more bad thing, as a good thing if you cannot find one more good thing. Same as his rear seat belt guide complaints, repetitively.
Why is the rear view camera on the outside of the car ? so stupid , the one in my Fiat 500 is inside the car on the rear window much more intelligent design.
