Vegan diet proponents insist that high-protein diets reduce lifespan. But what if protein - and specifically the amino acid taurine, found almost exclusively in animal foods - could actually help you live longer? 🥩 Is this what the research really says or is popular keto influencer Thomas DeLauer extrapolating from studies in mice and petri dishes? 🐭 Watch Dr. Westman’s reaction to find out. #protein #health #nutrition #longevity

@@wickeddrac7489I started with eggs, bacon, butter, beef, chicken and pork. I went with the least expensive options for meat(I always check weekly sales at my local grocery stores) and always go for pasture raised eggs. As time went on I have cut out chicken meat, and most pork including bacon. I find it just doesn’t sit well with me(except for a pasture raised chicken I had once). I do make sure to get vitamin c, either through lemon/lime water or vitamin c infused green tea. From there just follow what your body tells you, it gets so much easier once you’ve cut out the crap foods. I have added occasional dry roasted pistachios or pecans(1/4 cup) or blueberries (1/3 cup). I’ve also added some extra virgin olive oil and avocado oil. Some people will claim only meat and salt it true carnivore. These people are like those annoying vegans who are in our faces about it. Use seasonings if you can tolerate them. Eat some fruit if you can. 95 percent of your calories are from eggs and meat? That’s carnivore.

Good thing those cows can chomp down lots of grass, weeds, flowers, and whatever else is on the land. Every steak you get is filled with diverse green goodness and the land is left well fertilized by the cow and bacteria in his poop. Unfortunately, when you look across most land, how many animals do you see? Seems to me they cut down all the trees, and raze the land every few months with a new plant crop killing all the birds, insects, animals, etc. And then you have our friends at the World Health Organization telling people to not eat more than a deck of cards worth of meat a day and setting policy guidelines to reduce the animal load further. Soils won't get any better if we keep killing the animals and mono-cropping. People need to simply eat more beef. More the better, otherwise, these animals are going to be removed and factory protein will replace them and I doubt that will be healthy for anybody simply because the diversity is limited and the cell cultures come from embryos.

@@TealJadeTurquoise1you mean with chemicals ?
@TealJadeTurquoise1
@TealJadeTurquoise1 15 дней назад
@@downhill64 No. Traditional farming techniques did not rely on chemicals. People often took their waste/scraps, used manure and other things to stimulate the soil. Sometimes you have to let the soil rest too. If the soil is replenished with nutritive things that are leftover, there is little waste. It is like a rejuvenative loop. Compost is made from waste and worms and microbes break it down, making it nutrient dense. It is then added back into the soil. I don't see what the problem is with doing the same on a larger scale. I don't see why the investment in chemicals has been so heavy. Mankind is very strange. It does all of these self-destructive things, scratches it head, blames others, and then makes others the scapegoats for the elitist decisions.

I have become highly, highly skeptical of studies over the course of my life. There is what is real in nature - and there is the stuff our studies say ... and then there are the studies "bought and paid for" to create an income stream for someone - or to promote an ideology, and so on. I am also skeptical of what influencers say. What I've come to realize is that, for me, my so-called N=1 study - i.e. how I live, how I feed myself, and so on - is what really matters. If carnivore diet is gonna shorten my life and give me that big heart attack "before my time", I don't care. I feel so good on this diet that I'd rather feel great for the time I have left. I'm not going back to carbs. Regarding this topic - from this vid - I would find it more helpful to know, from a doctor's perspective, is getting more protein ever bad for us. If so, under what context. Is taking taurine and carnitine, as a sup., ever bad. Is there evidence that a person with x gets bad condition y if doing to much of either? Which protein sources have more? I've been told there's more taurine in chicken than in beef, except that really tough beef may have more taurine - like the beef neck bones I use a couple times a month to make soup. THanks.

I have been involved with mineral science for over 20+ yrs. Supplementation is important along with diet. It also changes over time as your needs change. The biggest factor in mineral science is the oxidation rate. How slow or fast do you burn minerals? Correct diet can help a person balance the oxidation rate but not always. The oxidation rate in part is being effected by the fight and flight mode. If you have hidden stress your nervous system is too stimulated which effects your absorption of minerals in food and supplements. The many hundreds of tissue mineral tests I have studied show this. Getting rid of carbs, sugars and processed foods are a great start but in order to balance the oxidation rate you need Correct diet, Supplementation and distressing techniques. Just eating animal protein is not the full picture as there are more factors. If you burn minerals too slowly you are depositing those minerals in your cells and tissues. In essence clogging your body. If you burn minerals too quickly you cannot keep up with the mineral needs and the body will cannibalize itself for the mineral needs. Balancing the speed at which you burn minerals is key. Again just eating animal protein all though healthy is not the full picture. It's just one piece of the puzzle. Our toxic world has compromised our health. Never in human history has there been a time of such challenge so we cannot compare what our annsestors did with what we need to do. We are in uncharted waters and our solutions to protect ourselves are more involved then just diet all though a critical piece to the puzzle.

With non-essential amino acids, I guess the idea is the following: Say 150 years ago we typically ate 10g of glycine and 5g of taurine per day and as an adult your body was also able to produce 10g of glycine and 5g of taurine. Now, today, many people eat zero grams of glycine and zero grams of taurine. If you then also eat less of the precursors and your body has difficulty producing the AAas it gets older, you may end up with fractions of glycine and taurine as compared to an older person 150 years ago. So, I think everyone should eat enough of the non-essential amino acids, especially if you don't eat that much protein and other precursors.

I think I’ve bought into one need extra protein / amino acids as one ages > 65. (Sarcopenia’). I have added muscle (considerable) without increasing waitlist size. I do add taurine, magnesium. nmn. glycine, l-citrulline, creatine. Collegen to my kale blend at lunch .. I guess I’m low fat and low carb .. ldlc is around 60mg/sl (apoB similar)/dl and no longer need statins. I have no issue with supplements and take the normal longevity stack AKG, vitD, O3, B complex, folate, astaxanthin, iodine, q10, nattokinase.. I’m sure I can get some of these from foods but at least with supplements I’m hopefully getting an age adjusted nutrient level. I’d prefer not to be “adequate” . (I rely on consumer labs to test the supplements I take). My attitude is if there is some data supporting a supplement and no harms, I’ll pick and choose some supplement stack which may mitigate age related decline … nmn being a good example. Plasma nad levels 26umol/L (no nmn) and 96uMol/L on nmn … I feel no physical difference (i pulse nmn every 6 months and retest nad levels) but … just in case .. I’m back taking it. Not all vegans and certainly not all vegetarians are “anti-protein” but they do not eat a ketogenic diet…the latter being ok for the short term but not a long term lifestyle modification. Vegetarians can bodybuild with or without supplements and get adequate protein from soy, non-fat dairy, legumes, nuts and other sources. There are advantages to avoiding red meat and I agree with the good doctor that anything to an extreme or that requires supplements and other purchases is suspect.

My understanding is that Taurine is the one amino acid that leaks out of cells from slaughtered and cooked meat and our meat is aged for like a month before you buy it at the store. Also, taurine production is an amino acid your body can produce, but disproportionally decreases with aging compared to other amino acids. So, for me, that is enough to supplement Taurine at all ages.
@lynettepascua4730
@lynettepascua4730 15 дней назад
I live in a rural area in the Philippines and at our local market where the meat is not aged. However because it is not aged it is so tough you have to pressure cook it for 30 minutes to be able to chew it. Aging meat tenderizes meat so you don’t have to cook it so long.
@MrApplewine
@MrApplewine 15 дней назад
@@lynettepascua4730 Well, I didn't think it would be tough on freshly slaughtered meat. But, here in the states it is aged, but they don't call it that or tell you that. But, I think in general the Taurine is going to leak out of any animal that isn't eaten on site. It also leaks out more when cooked, so cook it in some water and save the water. This is why cats were getting defects on cooked meat. The Taurine leaked out.
@lynettepascua4730
@lynettepascua4730 15 дней назад
I am from California and when I first came to the Philippines I was upset I could not find any tender beef. I started to google to see why the beef is tender in the US. That’s when I learned that in the US they have rooms that are almost freezing but not and that the cow hangs on hooks whole so that the weight of the meat pulls on the muscles and tendons and make them tender. Also in high class steak restaurants they have rooms to age there meat longer to get them more tender. Because they used to age them longer in the Stated but they have shortened the aging time. Because stores want more water left in the meat, so the meat would be heavier. There is a lot of water in freshly slaughtered meat. In a tropical 3rd world country big rooms that are almost freezing, that would cost too much. I am sure another reason is the only cows in the Philippines are Burma work cows, I don’t think they make for the best eating cow. I have been here 14 years and I have just found a place I can buy a steak that is okay to eat, I am sure it is imported from Australia. We don’t have dairy’s here either, when I first came there was no real cheese and only powdered milk. You can find it now but it is imported. Sorry I don’t know anything about Taurine, I am sure you are right.
