Mendenhall glacier guide here~ The photos shown of the glacier in this video are outdated by around 4 years. The glacier has receded so much that it is almot completely out of the lake now.
@user-qr7ee2cp4y Those important mariner's like Captain Cook always made it around though. We are talking 1600's. Easy to mark the end of a glacier from the mouth of the bay. They receded 1000's of feet before industry was born.
@Michael0663-qo4wx I didn't say anything about fossil fuel emissions. In the 90's it was CFC's destroying the ozone layer. I think there's a greater chance that smashing matter in the Hadron Collider will cause more damage than John Kerry flying the earth in his private jet.
Global warming has more to do with CO2, methane, increased cloud cover and man-made chemicals that reflect back infrared radiation back to surface of Earth.
Exactly, and the amount of energy needed to cause rate changes is often minimal, especially in terms of life and biosphere boundaries. As a chemist, I can demonstrate this in the lab. Complex energy systems such as the atmospheric and oceanic systems can also be mimicked and produce similar results (especially after accounting for scale differences and inconsistencies which don't reproduce well in the lab) to what's being measured globally.
2100? That is the most optimistic wishful thinking I have heard. 2050 is probably more realistic for most glacier terminus. Some glaciers in South America might actually expand, but the majority will simply disappear. Sea level is also going to start rising exponentially over the next 15-20 years, and we are going to see several feet rise in that time.
@@analienfromouterspace there have been numerous cataclysmic events that occured in shorter time spans and mankind has survived - for example, the "little ice age"
So, to make it even less personal, they modified it from "Mother Nature" to climate change. Completely denying that the Almighty has been warning all of us for a very long time that the time of the age of the Gentiles is coming to a close. Prepare yourselves accordingly.
Why is the comment section filled with anti-oil, left wing "bots" who post stuff about climate change while using devices that are made from oil byproducts?
As soon as the permafrost starts melting a bunch of sequestered carbon gets released and gases from the warmed composting permafrost contribute to further warming and apparently this is HUGE, so then you are past the point of no return and sliding down the slippery slope to hopeless global warming. (I saw it on a documentary about melting permafrost). Yeah it has been a hot summer.
There have been many times in the world's life when there was no ice and there have been times when it was an ice age. We are in an inter-glacial period which is fluid in either direction
Drill baby drill!!! 😂 not funny .... But. You gotta laugh the people care more about their payment checks from the state because of all the oil than they do about the climate changing to where lots of the earth will not be habitable.... good times
Think how fast 2 miles thick ice melted over Canada, Yukon, NWT when the last ice age happened. We are interglacial which means between the last and the next to come...and it will as it has repeatedly in the past.
Biden is no better and maybe worse than Trump. Biden pretends to be concerned but hes' funding immense wars all over the world, and now putting huge tariffs on Chinese EVs and solar panels. So why blame Trump?
This is different, this is melting at a speed never recorded before. This is very dangerous too in the long term, because of trapped greenhouse gases gets released and does more damage.
Isn't it funny how all of this started when we started releasing fumes into the atmosphere in the 1850s? Isn't it funny how we've been seeing exponentially faster glacier melt since the 1850s? Isn't it funny how the glaciers melt even faster with the more CO2 and methane that gets released into the environment? You'd have to be brain dead to not believe that man is causing these glaciers to melt faster.
We're already past the point of no return. I'm 70 and I saw this at 15! I didn't marry and I didn't have children. I knew this planet was doomed by man way bsck.
Ditto. If you lived in the same place for 72 years, the changes you have seen have been huge and catastrophic. the property I am on has been my family’s home for 120 years. It has been obvious to me for a long time that the world is in trouble. It doesn’t matter what you say, what proof exists or what happens, those that don’t want to see, will not see. Most human beings live as immortals until the day they die.

@@francismarion6400 Sure, it has been, BUT, it is happening faster now. That has some consequences people might not like. Things like floods and sea level rise.
@jimthain8777 it's not happening faster now. The glacier lost 1/3 it's distance from 1750-1909. Back in 1750 the glacier front was 3x it's size. So the mass of ice lost back then is greater than the rate it's losing now. In other places like Colorado, glaciers are growing longer.
@@francismarion6400 You are just talking out your ass. Please stop. Ever since Industrial Revolution, CO2 levels have skyrocketed off the charts. There is no scientific dispute in the reason for Climate Collapse. Scientists know what they are doing and dedicate their lives in trying to do the right thing.
Oxford University Press "Atmospheric Energy Imbalance: Global Warming in the Pipeline" by Dr James Hansen et al tells us only half the energy entering the atmosphere is escaping. The amount being retained doubled in the 18 years studied. The increase in heat retained is accelerating. This is from direct measurements by satellites, not models or predictions. This is already old news by several years, if measured today it would be worse, but not surprisingly funding for the study was cut. None of the models predicted this. As Hansen put it, many people, including most climate scientists, have not caught on yet, but they will. It is hot, it will be hotter. We're headed for a tropical Earth. The "great waves of change" are here. When I first read about this I thought it was far fetched, absurd, not possible, now I'm watching it happen. The survival of human civilization is up to us.
The magnetic poles have been shifting at faster speed over the last 5 years. The core stopped spinning and is now spinning backwards. Man-made climate change isn't causing that.
It's funny and sad in a way how some people explain away global warming with their extreme ideas that have no scientific basis. The magnetic poles are moving far too slowly to impact weather or climate. The Earth's core has not changed to cause any impact on Earth's surface. If the core was causing ice to melt on the Earth's surface then there would be all kinds of evidence to explain that such as warmer ground. Seismic data would also likely indicate something different about the core. Mark the initial comment as psuedo-science! 🙄
We passed the natural thermal maximum a while ago and are supposed to be cooling back toward the next ice age and also another mini ice age on our way there. So by all the natural cycles (Milankovitch and others) we are supposed to be cooling. Atmospheric carbon is supposed to be reducing. Glaciers are supposed to be growing. Understanding the interglacial periods is why climate scientist are so worried. Because it seems we have broken nature, the cycles of the entire planet. And considering we were so near the natural thermal maximum when we started to artificially rise it higher, we are going into climate not seen in over a million years. Nothing on Earth has spent the last million years adapting to the climate we are about to thrust the planet into. So mass extinction, and potential human extinction are possible in a very short time. Good luck.
@jarthur5094 You would think, but I've sat in those science classes, you have to be completely brainwashed to teach man made climate change, but they do. They used to call it global cooling, then global warming when AL Gore became vp. They also taught AL Gore invented the internet! lol
If one takes a glance at the temperature fluctuations of The Late Pleistocene compared to the Holocene we are doing great. We can't even accept The Younger Dryas Impacts Theory / Fact, nor The Burckle Crater Mega Tsunami ~2300BC and keep looking down. The most probable causation is The Taurid Meteor Stream, our most recent. Universally in Mythology we describe this inner solar system space debris with great detail.
8 Billion people is too few, we need 16 Billion people, 32 Billion people or best yet 64 Billion people ASAP because more wonderful people means more brilliant minds to solve these environmental problems.
Ice age no ice age ciggerettes bad good the key is looking around and nobody had access to data like now. You are welcome to smoke but not in everybody else's face
Droughts are connected to rainfall. Rainfall patterns are changing, so droughts may become more likely, but so too will torrential downpours. If you mix a drought followed by a torrential downpour, you get lots of flooding because the ground can't absorb the water fast enough.
You can call it whatever you want or try to make any explanation. The truth is that we are in the end of days. If you seek Him with a pure ❤ and let Him teach you the painful truth of this world, He will speak His rhema to you.
I was just mentioning that climate chaos denialism is a form of religion ... and people who believe Jesus is about to pop will also intrude into discussions that have nothing to do with religion. Thank you for illustrating my point. Here is what I wrote before I read your comment: Exactly the same reason why you have comments about Jesus in threads that have nothing to do with religion. Climate chaos denialism is a form of religious faith. They believe that if they proclaim it loud enough and often enough then it will be true. Unfortunately, physics and chemistry are unmoved by human religion and wishful thinking -- so the rapid glacial melting and record heat waves will only get worse.
