Thanks for the great video. If this thing can take off a 130 ft/lb nut, that's enough for me. I'd like something small like this for doing light duty tasks and not having to break out the air hose/compressor. I also have a hard time getting my big 600 ft/lb 1/2 drive gun in tighter places like removing bolts on brake calipers etc. This seems like a nice compact tool.
I think the auto mode is to get the nut snug without over-tightening it. Afterwards, you would use a torque wrench to tighten it properly. I doubt it tightens the lug nut to 130 lb ft when using auto mode.
I just picked up the 1/2” version as my first impact wrench! I bought it to work on my car. Had a ryobi for about a month and it would cut in and out while I was working holding it under my car. I returned it and got the Rigid 1/2” sub compact. I’m excited to use it and hope it lasts a long, long time! Now I just gotta get a good set of torque limiting extensions so I don’t strip my lug nuts! Any recommendations?
Same! I had a ryobi, and the 1st time I used it it would cut out while we're removing the lug nuts. Got the new rigid subcompact in 1/2" and it's been excellent. As far as torque limiting sticks try Capri, good quality and reasonable price.
Torque sticks are for convenience and speed, they are not as accurate as using a properly-maintained torque wrench. Additionally, the sticks are designed to be used with air impact, which have a much slower impacts per minute than electrics.
I picked up the 1/2 and of course it's always a great idea to have a torque wrench to double check afterwards but the Rigid 1/2 is almost always on point and I plan on using it until it falls apart in my hands. 👍 Much cheaper and better than Milwaukee that's fo sho
Mason Hunter that’s how ridgid’s batteries fit on a lot of their tools. The batteries don’t fit that well on the battery housing. It hasn’t affected the tool at all it’s just more annoying than anything
The battery sticks out but trust me it balances the weight of the motor and makes it very comfortable to use. When you have to carry or use a tool for hours at a time, you come to appreciate smaller and lighter tools that can do what the big tools do.
I agree. The tool is impressive in size. But Ridgid's battery system ruins it to me. Kobalt has a similar size battery and manages an extra cell inside it lol.
The 2ah battery is a lot smaller. Does not stick out the front like the 3ah he is running. The Ridgid tq specs are with using the 2ah battery. The Larger batteries, 4ah+, just make the tool even better.
Haha everyone is doing this, OVER TIGHTENING the lugs. Hahahahahaha the lug nuts are a much softer metal than the stud and over tightening stretches the threads and then the heat and over tightening causes the lug to weld itself to the stud. hahahahaha this is absolutely hilarious. Just ruined the lugs...So funny this is, and yet everyone is doing it.
