Maybe part of the problem was that you didn't let the water get hot enough. According to the Rit website the water needs to boil to 180degrees & stay at that temp & leave whatever you're dying in the water for around 30minutes, unless you don't want it full color cuz when you rinse it out a lot of color will come out.
Tina Coates Thank you for the heads up!! I hope everyone will read this comment to get this info because you definitely hit the nail with the hammer, I needed it to be hotter!
You could try a few test trials by cutting some loose ends! Maybe try some brown and blonde but only a small amount of brown? Test test test! It’s your best friend!
What did that first color you got look like in reality ? I have a color 613 (platinum blonde) with that I am trying to get to at least look like a dark ash blonde or light Ash brown . Did the first color you got look like any of those or do you have suggestions on which rit color I should use instead ?
Ashley Rodriguez Hmm for a sort of softer brown, I would suggest that you add just a little bit of yellow (less then a spoonful) and stir, and add more to see fit. 😄
Hey guys! I want to give a shout out because you are all seriously amazing! The cosplay Commuinty is a strong one and I really appreciate the feedback and the views and comments just everything!! Good luck to you all!!
Russian Red My hair was actually soft! I used some leave in conditioner after I dyed it, but if you don’t have that, you could use some fabric softener! 😄
Jade Keller That might work, but it depends on the fibers of the wig, it might take, it might not. I tried a whole bottle of blue Rit Dye on a white wig and nothing stuck, so just try a little first and pour in more slowly. 😅
Older comment, but from my experience of dying plastic ponies, YES- more dye means deeper more instant color. I usually test strip amounts of dye- you can always dye more (haha, a pun if you’re using RIT brand) because if it’s too dark you can’t really remove it.
How did you get the first round color of medium blonde??? How much water and dye did you use and for how long??? I am a cancer patient and my wig came too blonde and I need to give it warmth and color. Also, do you have any tips for washing and untangling the wig, or other tips from your experience??? thanks so much
D EE To Be quite honest, I did not measure anything, but to get the first brown, I did leave the color to simmer on medium and the second I did a bit higher, I think that was the trick! I really hope this helps, if not try adding just half the bottle of dye! 😄
How long did you boil the first round? Its the exact colour I want on my wig. I was originally going to buy the "sand" colour but I like how yours turned out
D EE you want to boil ur water first then add the dye and bring that to a rolling boil for best effects. I believe it should say on the bottle in terms of amounts of water to dye and so forth, it’s usually safe to use the whole bottle tho depending on pot size
StrawberryFerret I actually got a bigger pot that’s for soups and such! I can’t wait to test it out, that was the only pot I had available to me at the time and it’s definitely a learning process.😅 But I’m really glad for each comment, it helps a lot for it, otherwise I wouldn’t know where to begin! 😁
Lorette D That’s a good question.... I suppose if it’s a cheap material it may work, cheap fibers for me somehow work better with dye rather than a wig from Arda. But I am not for sure on that. I would again try it on a cheap wig first, or do it on the ends and cut it off if it does not work. But I hope it goes well!!
From my experience yes I can 😅 What you could do, is boil the water at a low heat for about half the time, and do a small test on the ends of the wig! 😄
Sonata Shinome Now that is a good question!.... I am super unsure though. I’m sorry that I can’t quite help, but I would direct you to a hair stylist and get their help!
Sam spam since they aren't all made the same way...let me suggest silicone lubricant by ACE hardware and another brand called CRC. Spray it 6 inches away, in an open room or outside on dry, clean wig..either the ends or whole thing brush or comb thru starting at ends working way up, flat iron on low to medium..and your done!
Sam Spam I make lace front synthetic wigs from scratch for clients so yeah, I wouldn't use something that might ruin them! This is one of the only things that works well on wigs!
