Third parties may better reflect what some of us want but they have no chance of winning presidential elections nor house or senate seats and instead may help Republicans. Even if one magically did miraculously win a presidential election, they'd still have Republicans and Democrats in the house and senate opposing them. The most realistic strategy that doesn't help Republicans in the process is for more left leaning people to run in Democratic primaries, which is what AOC did. It will change eventually. The Republicans for a long time have relied on the Electoral College and Gerrymandering (which was introduced specifically to fix elections) to win. Now days, Republicans also try to fix the vote through voter suppression of minorities who usually vote Democrat. There are only so many rules they can break and so many new rules they can make in their favor before even though they are fixing their own elections that they will lose anyway due to being so phenomenally unpopular. Perhaps the biggest fear is they will realize a time will come when they can't be elected and somehow form a dictatorship, perhaps with help from a foreign power that is normally an enemy of the US.

If Republicans could stand up and prove empirically, with evidence, that having a gun in every household actually does make people safer, I would absolutely change my position on gun control. However since all their arguments are based either in lies, misconceptions, or outright manipulations of data, it's not actually possible for them to convince people using facts, because the facts are never on their side.
