This ice-blue ‘clearwater’ design is inspired by both the first Japanese Diver’s watch launched in 1965, and the Seiko Marinemaster design from the 2000s.
The 1965 Diver’s marked the beginning of Seiko’s journey with diving watches, and the never-ending commitment to designing durable timepieces. The original piece was deemed so reliable that it was gifted four times to Japanese Antarctic Research Expeditions and on extreme trips to the North and South poles, as well as Mount Everest. The Marinemaster was specifically designed for professional divers with its robust case and strong strap.
This latest piece features inspired elements from the 1965 original diver, including its silhouette and distinctive hour markers. The horizontal line patterned dial evokes a marine-sports style, whilst its sapphire exhibition case back is a first in a Seiko Diver. Its lugs have a mirrored finish for added light reflection, whilst its thick hour markers are Lumibrite-coated for high legibility. This is the slimmest of all Seiko mechanical divers watches at only 12.3mm, despite the box sapphire glass and the exhibition case back.
This piece is powered by the new slim calibre 6L37 movement which maintains strong accuracy of -10 to +15 seconds per day, with a power reserve of 45 hours. Importantly, the new Marinemaster meets Seiko’s strict Diving ISO standard specification.
Prospex is a combination of the words ‘Professional’ and ‘Specifications.’ Seiko Prospex timepieces are designed to be practical, reliable and durable; to meet the high standards required in extreme environments for sports lovers and adventure seekers alike.

It’s not a bad looking watch but I don’t think it deserves the MARINEMASTER name. The design just seems confused. Also c’mon Seiko, it’s about time to design a better clasp and dive extension.

Thanks for the review!! Great to see it in such detail and love your honesty. This looks great to me but the price is pretty eye-watering, in particular against the competition in the 2000-3000 range. (Hope we can see the new Longines Legend soon!) And I'm not sure how it is justified next to something like the SPB385 or 439, which you showed a while ago, besides the movement.

Sorry haters, this piece is simply gorgeous! As a new "Seikoholic" I understand looking for certain previous specs but in my humble opinion this is a good buy: 1. That Blue is mesmerizing 2. Bezel looks awesome 3. the dimensions are best for smaller wrists 4. The case finishing looks just under Grand Seiko or King Seiko level! 5.I do agree that the bracelet is just ok but I'll be putting mine on rubber straps and might even get a blue padded alligator strap to bring those eye catching blues!

I do agree its a good looking model and very comfortable but they shouldn't of gone with MarineMaster on the dial , many people aren't happy with the price being it RRP is higher than the MM300 at £3K. What do you think ?

@@ClickSpringReview I have never owned a Marinemaster so I don’t have an opinion on the rebranding but for those that do I understand…my first Seiko was a Grand Seiko (champagne dial) and I recently purchased the new King Seiko (black dial) so you can see why I like this blue diver! *note: Full disclosure, If my AD had a 62mas in stock I’d buy it in place of this even though it’s $3.5k! I personally got the limited edition version. The watch wears great. The bracelet is extremely nice. And I personally love it. I will say though I think people would’ve been happier with the 68 frame being used as the MM considering most already call it the MM200 or “baby MM.” If they just woukdve added the same refinements to the case, made that 300m and gave it the exhibition back with the 3 same finishes and coin edge bezel. I don’t think manny would’ve complained. I understand why Seiko made the 62MAS the MM name this year but it really should’ve been another slightly beefier watch but most are not going to understand how this is a “higher tier” than the new 62MAS coming in June that has a 70 hour power reserve and can go 300m deep while this is at 50 and 200. It doesn’t need to be serviced every 2-3 years. That’s a very conservative statement by Seiko. I have watches that have been 12 years now and keep perfect time. Nothing will happen if you service it at 5 years.
@ClickSpringReview
@ClickSpringReview 3 месяца назад
The 6L movement I'd take everyday of the week over the any of the low beat R movements, 2/3 does sound very low as you say, 5/6 years I'm sure they will be ok. As you say you can left a watch 12 years but if you wear it everyday Im 100% sure their will be no oil left in the movement and the pinions are just slowly wearing away and will need replacing at the next service
@TheCdM1981
@TheCdM1981 3 месяца назад
@@ClickSpringReview that’s all theory. Some people say if it’s on a winder it keeps it better. Some people say if it’s not it keeps it better. There’s no definitive answer as to what dries oil inside the watch up fastest. Me personally I think movement does like you said but again. Unknown. And I never said the 6L should be swapped out for a lower 6R. I think they used the wrong case for the Marinemaster name. It should’ve been the 68 case considering that looks like a marine master in a 42mm form. But again I have the watch and it’s super nice. I just understand the complaints and believe if the did what I had suggested there would be little room to complain.

Being a watchmaker we get watches in after being serviced 5 , 7, or even 10 years + and after 5 years if your using modem synthetic oils like HP1300 and not the old D3 which many old boys use your going to be ok but leave it much longer and the gears end up running dry and thats when we see lots of wear happening and it starts to get very expensive for the customer. You're right Barry, it's a gorgeous watch, and it looks really comfortable. I hope that this movement justifies the price though, because this watch is priced at Oris Diver 65 Calibre 400 level, is more expensive than the Longines Hydroconquest models and Sinn U50, and is dangerously close to the Tudor Black Bay 54 and 58 watches. I'd rather pay a little more for a Black Bay model with 10 year service intervals and the toughness of an army tank, frankly... But this Seiko is gorgeous, nobody can take that away from it, and let's face it: the date window matches the shape of the dial 😉. Thanks Barry, I hope to be able to grill my local AD about this, and to see how it fits. Happy New Year (again) Barry, LG Bob 🍻🎉 Regarding servicing, could you not just monitor the amplitude to assess the need for maintenance? I appreciate, though, that water resistance might require checking every year, which is something else that the Tudors manage to avoid.

Looks ok but very odd to name it a marinemaster. A name associated with their high end dive watches. But good to see a higher grade movement, even though the 6L35 is just an upgraded version of the older 4L35, a calibre upon which soprod based the A10. I've always liked Seiko but now they are falling behind the competition. The bracelet ( pin and collar?) clasp and cheap diver's extension, and that date window are awful for the price. Who needs a date on a diver watch? Dials look cleaner and less cluttered without one.As mentioned in another comment you are getting up to Sinn, Tudor etc levels and these companies offer much more for your money.

It DOES NOT need to be serviced every 2-4 years. You service a watch when it starts running out of spec. Seiko literally swaps the movement for a new one as it’s too much time and labour cost to disassemble it and service the movement. So you’re just wasting your money servicing a watch at specific intervals as the whole movement just gets swapped when you send it to Seiko for a service. Lots of people own Seiko’s that still run perfectly fine that are 15-20 years old and have never been serviced. Service intervals are a scam. If it’s not broken don’t fix it.
@ClickSpringReview
@ClickSpringReview 6 месяцев назад
Your thinking of R movements yes they get binned but this type get serviced, this is a 8 beat per second movement. leave a movement to long and you end having to replace so many parts to get in running correctly again, R movements people don't cave if they run 1 or 2 mins a day but this one should run to COSC specs
@dustinr16
@dustinr16 6 месяцев назад
@@ClickSpringReview Doesn’t run remotely to COSC. Seiko specs are -10 to +15 spd for the 6L37. Laughably better that a 6R35 at -15 to + 25 spd. Thats an insane asking price and you don’t even get a ceramic insert. You’re wasting money servicing it until it exhibits a problem. Since Seiko throws out the whole movement it costs the same no matter how many parts are worn out inside the movement. Only a local watchmaker would disassemble and service this thing. Seiko throws out the movement and throws a new 6L37 in. Fixed interval servicing is for suckers. It’s not like a car engine where heat and contaminents degrade the oils over time. Watch manufacturers tell you to service it every 3-5 years to make $$$$! Any watch maker worth their salt will tell you not to service it until it starts running out of spec.
@ClickSpringReview
@ClickSpringReview 6 месяцев назад
Are you a watchmaker ? Because I am and this watch ran with in COSC across 4 positions, have you ever inspected a watch movement after the oils have ran dry ?
@dustinr16
@dustinr16 6 месяцев назад
@@ClickSpringReview Just because yours runs COSC doesn’t mean they all will. Seiko certainly doesn’t guarantee it nor do they bother getting it COSC certified. Not trying to pick a fight just stating the facts. Seiko throws out these movements. Look it up on their service site (replace movement with latest specification). So whether it has no oil and everything is worn down they just slap a new movement in if you send it to a Seiko centre. It’s too much time and labour to tear it apart. Anyhow it’s not worth half the price so I won’t be buying one. I started collecting in the early 2010’s when Seiko delivered excellent value. I still love them and their designs are great but their quality is not worth the asking price especially considering the QC issues of alignment and the irregular running of the movements.

The service interval is a cash grab, you can look up the service interval on 4R36s as well, it's total BS, especially when, if a 4R has issues under warranty, Seiko bins it and puts in a new one, as it's far cheaper replacing than fixing it. Seiko movements can go much longer than what Seiko wants their customers to do, and the tolerances in mechanical seikos are poor across the board. What makes them go on for so long, even if they don't run well, much like a 30 + y/o Ford engine.
@ClickSpringReview
@ClickSpringReview 6 месяцев назад
A 4R36 no body excepts much from and as you say they just get binned , but this is movement are built last and perform. As you say you can run them for years without servicing them its true, but after so many years the oils run out and the metal starts to wear away and the dust from this contaminates other parts, you end up needing to replace many others parts and the costs go up and up sir

@@ClickSpringReview Should still be no need to service it more often than at most every 5th year with the oils we have today, at least with the relatively loose accuracy Seiko gives, if the cosc accuracy swiss movements can make it longer than this seiko movement with also achieving better accuracy, seiko is doing something wrong

@@ClickSpringReview SBDX001 was released in 1999. I would expect a little bit more progress in movement performance made over 25 years than just cost cutting. It has nothing to o with SBCN005 which was NOT a Marinemaster Professional.
