The problem they are referring to is for the opponent and Lucy says 'not my problem' coz it's the opponent's problem not hers. Not sure how this quote points to any kind of mentality difference.
Ok, firstly, OF COURSE we care about cheesecake. Secondly, I really like this idea, and seeing a nearly grandmaster level player hanging out with a hobby level player (that happens to be a loved one) in a casual, supportive, analytical but not personally judgmental way makes me feel pretty good about where I’m at and learning from much higher level players.

It’s impressive about how real-time dialogue in a chess game can be even more educational than a normal video commenting on games. Especially for beginners who feel stuck. At last. Thank you, Levy. My favorite series by far with just 1 episode!
Hearing the thought process is sooooooo much more important than just seeing the moves. I can look at a million GM games but if I don’t understand why they did what they did I’m not going to learn much. That’s why Danyas speed run is so good. My rating jumped up by over 200 rating points since I started watching him and I still think I’m a bit underrated because I keep losing to this 1700 rated dude but only after being in a completely dominant position and then just stop being careful because I just want to end it haha. So frustrating that I keep doing it after “learning my lesson”. Anyway I was also unrated before that due to not playing as many games but still from 1345 to 1568 since January. That’s good. I credit a lot to Danya.

I have ALWAYS wanted to see a series like this. It's great seeing grandmasters speedruns beating people from an equal position but I've always wanted to see how they would come back from a losing position.
I think why no one does it is it's less of an exercise of finding a way to forcibly take back the position and more of a play solidly and wait until the opponent blunders and respond correctly to blunders as demonstrated in this video. So really you're just watching someone figure out a way to lose a winning position.
@@SykoSparx It's both. Weak players are susceptible to tactics that require a specific response to survive, AND slow improving moves that are solid and don't blunder while making it very hard to not blunder.
@@SykoSparx very true but that's the only way to come back from a losing position. A winning position is exactly that: winning. With best play the only result is a win, but coming back from a losing position inherently requires the opponent to make inaccuracies, mistakes and/or blunders.
Not even two minutes in "7 moves so far, haven't lost anything yet" "yeah, haven't blundered my queen yet". I see the bar is set incredibly high. That made me laugh way too hard. It's always good to have simple goals when still learning newer things. And if one of those goals is "don't yeet the queen in 3 moves" then I'll support that.
One thought: I think the guest should play the first 15 moves completely solo, without you in the room/watching. Then, they leave and you takeover. Adds an extra element of surprise and puzzle solving when you don't see how they got there and have to quickly analyze their entire position. Also makes a time a bigger factor. Feels like it could ramp up the fun even more!

This is extremely helpful for learning the game. Sure, some people wanna see swaps with Magnus/Hikaru/..., but seeing you take over in the middle game (which is usually the hardest part to play) is very insightful. It's coaching in the phase of the game where you most need it, it feels like.
Elo swap with Hikaru will be like: Hikaru : Levyyyyyy I left you at Mate in 20....uhhhh you had to takes takes push pincer attack, wooden shield, takes juicer, push juicer, crisscross apple sauce and then classic right triangle, ice skater mate Levy : 👁👄👁
This video has probably helped me improve the most. I was stuck at around 1000-1200 and seeing you explain the concepts to your GF when she was making the same mistakes as me really improved my understanding of how I was playing bad chess even when I usually win.

I like the ELO Swap concept. It's interesting to watch Lucy's moves.. I see the moves she's missing... but when I play my own games I often don't see that. Note to self - think more about what opponent's next move(s) are!

Yeah yeah, ELO swap is great and all, but when are we getting those cheese cake updates we all crave? For real though, this is amazing. Keep making more. The only thing I'd want to see more is a speedrun similar to Naroditsky's master class series.

not only that, its beginner moves vs beginner moves. in other series its an im or gms moves against a beginner. by starting with beginner moves it puts people into more conceivable postitions. only other series i think that does this well is buliding habits by chessbrah
I can see this becoming a great series. Could relate with Lucy with the moves and when you were giving advice, I felt like you were telling me the moves.
Little late commenting here, but I've been gone awhile. I love how Levy's expression changes from around 04:10 to about 04:15. He goes from looking like it's straining his patience not saying anything to looking super proud of her for reaching the right conclusion. This video is magic. 😁
I want to point out that Levy’s content is so superb, that even after I pretty much stopped playing chess regularly, I watch his videos! Absolutely incredible videos!
There was something similar that Hess did when teaching a streamer, they would swap sides everytime the streamer got a lost position. Seeing Hess come back each time was amazing, I was wondering why no one did that more with each elo bracket.
Great idea for sure and educational. Levy can save losing games against lower rated players and Lucy can try to convert won positions against stronger players
The idea is great, but I'd also like to see the ELO swap with Levi "leaving the room" for 15-20 moves, then coming back to take over the game and analizing everything afterwards.

This is really great content: only thing I'd change is increase the moves the lower player has to do to 20. 10 moves just isn't enough to completely screw things. The worst you could really get is probably knight for rook and pawn odds which won't be enough of an advantage for an IM to take over. Other than that, great idea can't wait to see more
Personally I think Gotham should be the one performing the first moves of the opening and watch his ~1000 ELO player try to convert the winning position. It’ll be way more interesting because the middle game does not require opening chess theory and pure memorization, and more importantly it’s sadistically funny watching Gotham as his subject throws the game.
At low enough elo, you can just make moves that don't offer a trade but threaten something (this is what Levy did for like the entire time he was playing in game 2). Eventually your opponent will miss it and blunder. Checks, captures, and attacks. Every move. Check to see if you could move twice, could you setup a winning tactic (like a fork). If the answer is yes, then does the first move lose/trade? If no, then make it. If your opponent misses the threat... free queen :D
I didn't see it... I was too busy thinking about pawn structure. But then, I definitely would have moved the bishop back to attack the white knight instead of what she did.
After I started watching Levy, I got back into chess and began analyzing my games. It was at that moment I realized that I was not actually good at chess; my opponents were simply masters at hanging mate in one.
