I’m a hairstylist, and I’ve been debating between the Dyson and the Shark-this just made my decision for me!!!! I’ll be getting my Shark tools next week!!!!
Thanks Lainey for saving me from this frustration & saving me money too! 👍 This has sold on me NOT buying an air wrap tool, I'd never have the patience for them especially with the end results disappearing so quickly no matter what you tried, how frustrating! 😬 Honestly my main takeaway from this : Heatless curls FTW!!! 🥳
I’m so glad you did this comparison even though there is no way that I would spend that much for the Dyson. But I’m really happy to see that the Shark side worked better for you. I think my hair type is about the same as yours; straight, basically. I’m also disappointed that Shark isn’t having much of a sale for this Thanksgiving weekend. Everybody sells this but Shark did have the best discount coupon but I still had to dig for it.
Thank you so much for this comparison! I have fine hair too, so seeing how your curls look after using the dyson really makes me second guess purchasing one for myself! I know each person's hair is different, but I'd rather take a risk with a more affordable option!
I have super-fine hair too - never holds a curl! I tried a friend’s Airwrap, she loves and her hair looks great but she was gutted because I got your ‘results’ too 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ Main takeaway is save my money 💰😏 Thanks Lainey!
I am from Ireland and received the shark flexstyle for Christmas mine is black an gold and comes with a black travel case. I'm obsessed with my shark flexstyle works wonders for my thick wavy hair.
I like your videos so much that even though I have no interest or intention in buying any of those two products, I watched it just to see how it would go. 😅
Lol, me too! I have naturally curly hair (a blessing and a curse), so I definitely won't be purchasing either. But, I would not be able to sleep at night if I didn't watch to the end to find out which device won! 🤣 🤣
Wow, I was not expecting the ending result to look bad for the Dyson, here I was thinking of saving money for the Dyson airwrap but I can clearly see that the shark gave you a better look. Thank you for sharing and I am sorry that the Dyson airwrap did not work for you.
nice to see an Honest review on Dyson airwrap seems every review the person loves it, even though their curls fall out - def not worth $600 Again thanks for doing an honest review
Your hair is beautiful I absolutely love the colour!! Thank you for doing this tutorial as I have been considering getting the Dyson however my hair is fine and even with heat curls drop almost immediately. Definitely would get the Shark!!! x
The Shark Flexstyle has actually been out for over a year but all of a sudden people are just now making comparison videos. I personally think the Shark is could for people who don’t have $600 to spend, and from what I am hearing is more women with very thick hair are loving the Shark. I also think that Shark will redesign this tool so that the buttons will be placed in an much better location for ease of use like the Dyson, and that they will work on the cool shot so that it works better. The reviews from women with very thick wavy hair seem to get better results with the Shark because it gets hotter then the Dyson. I know I will never be spending $600 on a styling tool now I have been debating on whether I should wait another year for them to upgrade their model or should I buy one because I would like one very much.
I have the same hair as you accept I’m older 😊 I prefer the shark as well. One thing that helps me is using the shark with the bend and using the curler like a wand so it is curling from the top down. Give that a try I think it will look beautiful on your hair.
Thank you very much for this video!! it was very helpful in knowing I made the right choice in which styler to purchase but also taught me how to properly use it!
I have curly but extremely fine hair and once I blow dry it straight a curling iron curl will just fall out so I get "it's just my hair". I just cut about 14" off so I won't be able to try all of you cute styles but I'll be here watching and trying the ones I can!
I have been thinking about getting one but I think I get the same effect with a few sets of $5 Velcro rollers from Sally’s and no heat or just lightly pressing my flat iron on medium heat over the rolled hair for a few seconds if I’m in a rush and not leaving in overnight The shark is definitely more appealing to me than the dyson and I roll my eyes at the videos of people pretending like the dyson is still sooo much better. I think they are just committed because they paid so much or to the brand name
There are a lot of paid videos at there but I do think it works great for thicker hair. However, $600 still doesn’t justify the price tag when the shark exists Lol! I do love my heatless curls though and I feel like I could get the same results ❤
When I’m styling for clients I prefer not to use any products prior to curling as I find it actually makes your hair harder to hold curl. Especially if you have thin hair.. If their hair is wet I’ll do a bit of light weight leave in conditioner before blow drying but that’s it until after the hair is curled.
My hair type is very similar to yours. I bought the shark. I don’t like the round brush at all. But after seeing those curls now I have no regrets not getting the Dyson.
The Dyson air wrap does the exact same with me. My curls immediately fall out. I use the Bio ionic long curling iron and my hair is beautiful and curls stay pretty good. I’m obsessed with the Dyson blow dryer. But, my curls immediately fall out. All that time and effort for zero payoff. I like the brush attachments though. They smooth out my hair. I’ve tried different levels of wetness. Tons of hairspray does nothing. Some get stunning blowouts that remind me of the 90s supermodel, but not mine sadly.
Hi Lainey, thank you so much for the honest review! Have you seen the Luxxe Air Pro2? It is also around $300 just like the Shark. Could you do a comparison video between the two please?
same exactly Dyson disappointing experience here!! my hypothesis is, the healthier your hair, the harder to hold the curl the dyson does... :( I don't know..
I felt that wt Dyson too..did a trial.. dyson curls immediately fell flat. Its my hair. For a friend it was a better result but still not a tight wave. Its the hair type.. thanks for the review.. way too much money to risk
Thanks so much for this.. I was really thinking about buying the Dyson until now. I once sat 1.5 hours in a hair dresser to get my hair curled before a wedding and they tried everything - but it fell out 15 minutes after I left the hairdressers. I feel I’d have this exact same issue with the Dyson now I’ve seen your video. Thanks again! Leah, Ireland
We have the exact same hair type. Mine looks just like yours after the dyson. I’ve spent a fortune in products trying to get it to hold. The shark side looks so much better but did it hold throughout the day?
You and I share the same hairtype and it always takes a lot of different products to make any curls hold or work. I have and love the Dyson blow dryer but have held off on the air wrap because of the price. After seeing this though… I too would be heated if I spent that much to have my hair flatten like some of my $20 curling irons. So I appreciate this! What styling products have you decided to use for volume and hold since making this video? Anything different?
That's so cool and informative! I agree that using some sort of product is important to get the hold you want. I would also recommend using a hairspray for long lasting curls :)
I switched fron Dyson to the Shark Flexstyle. I definitely agree that it works better for my hair than Dyson. I just wish the paddle brush had thicker bristles.
I can't see myself spending that kind of money on a Dyson. For no results, I probably wouldn't even spend that much on the Shark. I usually just straight hair and once in a while I will curl it using a curling wand. I've used the Revlon hair dryer and it's good not my favorite. I guess it's just what you prefer and works for you.
Agreed! Personally, I just do heatless curls all the time and let my hair air dry. Definitely more for people that actually do their hair multiple times a week 💗thank you for watching and commenting!
Thank you for this I was thinking about buying the Dyson I’m curious about the shark but I have very fine hair. Do they last the day? It’s cheaper but still a lot of money x
I’ve heard the Dyson doesn’t use as much heat so it doesn’t damage your hair. But my hair does not hold curl unless I have heat. Like the highest setting. So…thanks for saving me from buying a Dyson haha
Glad I didn't get the Dyson. Fine straight haired girl here. And I'll wait on the Shark. I've been playing with my Calista long hot rollers (original blue 12 set). Wow, curls actually stay in my hair, if the weather isn't humid. Thanks for the video.
The Dyson sucks. They really need to stick with vacuums where they reign supreme! I wanted to love it, but couldn't justify it. It dried my hair out and I was not impressed! I'll be trying the Shark. Thank know for your excellent review!
I agree with you. Dyson is just mainstream. You want it because everyone want it, but i can tell watching other videos..... It's not as good or lasting :)
To be honest this product does not work well on certain hair types if your hair is very fine or has little natural body you’re probably better off using a traditional roller set or velcro rollers. Also if your hair is too compromised or lacks elasticity(breaks easy)the curls prob won’t hold.
Hello dear 🌹 very useful video. My thought is even if the 'DYSON' works it's still so expensive for what it suppose to do!!! I mean 600$???? 600$???? . . . for god's sake! after all it's a hair dryer and hair curly tool !!! Love from Greece to you and your family ❤️❤️❤️
I Just purchased and received my shark flex style. My hair is not holding a curl (could be my hair cut) it always did before. Anyway, I like the paddle brush attachment and the hair dryer concentrator. Still working on using the curling barrels. I do like the other attachments so far. I do not own the Dyson, but I do like the Shark so far...
I definitely like the shark better than the dyson, if I had to choose! I think it might take some playing around to see if your hair will hold a curl or not!
I think the round brush of the Dyson gives the most volume. I don’t get much volume with either other than that. But again, my hair is very fine, so volume doesn’t really exist with it Lol ❤
I have watched several comparison videos and you all say the same thing. Shark is hotter than the Dyson. I am guessing that is why the Shark curls didn’t fall out. Everyone’s hair is different and yours obviously needs more heat to hold a curl. Thank you for making the video.
Girl--- I'm with you! It did the same thing to my hair and my sister in laws hair! All that work for nothing-- the curls are gone as soon as you put your hand through it! I even sprayed it and still nothing!!!!!
@@LaineyMarieBeauty I feel you!! Damp hair, dry hair... Still nothing! I have NO idea how sooooo many people raved about it. My hubby got it for me as a gift because of the videos he has seen raving about it. Do you love the shark one or is there another one you recommend?? I tried the t3 curler today with still no luck-- not sure what other ones to try!
Thank you so much for this video! You might have answered this question already but I’m curious, does shark come with a nice carrying/storage case like the dyson??
I’m so confused! I finally splurged on the shark, did exactly what you did, and there’s barely and curl, not even initially. Kind of a very loose wave that disappeared in minutes. Fail 😢
i'm thinking about getting the dyson in two days and if my hair end up not holding like that i will cry until i pass out cause that thing is EXPENSIVE and i don't wanna throw almost 600$ in the trash, i HAVE to make it work!!!
If you have fine hair, I wouldn’t buy it. If you have thicker hair, you should be ok! They have a 30 day money back guarantee, so just make sure to hang onto all of your packaging and receipt ❤
How did you get your hands on the shark flex style? I’ve been trying to order directly from shark/ninja but they’re out of stock. Did you order from them?
Try the Blowout Professor channel on RU-vid. I think that using different products would vastly improve your results. 🤔 Chris (the Blowout Professor) has been a great help to me, and I believe his channel is definitely worth checking out. Stay beautiful, and thanks for making this video.
I have both. Be careful with the Shark. I had a ton of hair loss and breakage with it. Dyson saved me. Yes, the Shark curling barrels work better because the Shark is so much hotter. The Dyson uses coanda effect on all their attachments (except the round brush). The Dyson smoothing brushes are incredible. Shark only uses the coanda technology on the curling barrels. That's why the difference in price. The Shark brushes are way too rough for me. I'm sticking with Dyson.
the shark bristles have a softening technology and i’m telling you they work for me and my hair is so soft and doesn’t tangle😩 but the breakage is bad if you get ur hair caught!!!
Im curious, does your hair hold a curl well with a curling iron? My hair never holds a curl (curling iron or flat iron curls), so Im wondering if the Shark or Dyson would hold some wave/curl volume better?
Do your curls stay when you use a curling iron or straightener (to curl), or does your hair not hold a curl in general? I would sell that dyson and get some of your money back…
They do stay with a curling iron or straightener! And will last 2 days! I’ve tried about 10x to get this Dyson to work and it never does. I will for sure be selling it!
@@LaineyMarieBeauty I couldn't sleep with the socks. Even though came out reasonable for my first attempt. I am currently trying velcro rollers for a bit of a volume boost & waves
Have you tried heatless curls? Maybe start there and see how you like it! I have several videos on "robe curls" and they always turn out beautiful on me! If you want a good hair curling iron, I have one from babyblisspro that I've had for years. It's a 1" and it works great! It's basic but it does it's job!
