I probably won't be around when the cost comes down but I would love to go. Less than 700 people in all of humanity have ever actually seen the curvature of our earth from space....to actually have a birds eye view of the planet our civilization occupies. It would be amazing. Basically, all of humanity has been living inside a house, never to leave. Only 700 people or so have ever been let out to see the house from the outside.
dang, I thought we were hearing screams of terror at T+ 7:50. "Holy SHT! AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!". But I am glad to hear it went well. congrats to all involved/
When I was about 10 or 11, I was in civil air patrol. And sometimes we would go flying in a Cessna. The pilot would let me pull back on the yoke to take off and fly around during level flight. But not land, I would not call myself a pilot, Nor would I call myself a sailor because I steered a little boat at sea world., and I would not consider these passengers crossing the Karman line astronauts just because they did that. That word, astronaut, should be reserved for people who actually go in space to do some kind of work. $0.02
Even an orbit isn’t enough. To be called an astronaut, you should be able to participate in the flight. This is just a fancy and very expensive amusement park ride. To be an astronaut, you should do more than go on a ride. Having said that, if that is what it takes to fund these programs and advance the technology, so be it. I will call them astronauts. I just may call all the others “real astronauts”.
This is wonderful! I do wish virgin galactic would also continue to do this so more and more people keep having a different perspective of our world and to keep developing launch systems for whats to come
@@RobopRU-vid by definition an astronaut is a person trained, equipped, and deployed by a human space flight program to serve as a commander or crew member aboard a spacecraft. By your definition I must be a PILOT everytime I board an airplane.
Alan Shepard and Gus Grissom did this back in '61 on the Mercury-Redstone launch vehicle....at least their flights had a purpose. . Six loads of ballast, on a sub-orbital joyride to the Kármán line. They are NOT astronauts. All of them could just as easily been named 'Ham', 1 through 6. . A total non-event.
Dumbest logic ever! I removed a splinter the other day with tweezers. I guess that makes me a surgeon. These people are space tourists, not astronauts.
@@RRehted actually, astro = stars; and naut = sea. Nice try. However, ro be considered an astronaut means to go beyond the karmen line (which they did for a little over a minute) and perform some function scientifically for a mission to learn about space. Big difference between tourist and astronaut. Learn before you respond.
@@briangreene4813 well "naut" = traveller and you are right that astro means stars but the word astronaut has different meaning like star traveller, space traveller or universe traveller.
An astronaut is everyone that has gone to space, it's not a job, so they are astronaut, but space tourists. Meanwhile the people in the space station they are also astronauts, but they are scientist, etc
1) Tourists are not "astronauts" 2) Passengers are not "crew" 3) A sightseeing tour is not a "mission" I'm a big fan of space tourism and I'm 100% in favor of private/commercial spaceflight, but I will keep saying this as long as Blue Origin (and Virgin Galactic) keeps trumpeting them as "astronauts". Pretending that passengers engaging in an expensive, 10-minute, costumed role-play are the same as actual astronauts is not merely distasteful, it's Stolen Valor.
Blah blah blah. Cry about it and let them do their thing. By definition, they are kind of astronauts. The definition of astronaut is "a person trained to travel in a spacecraft". So, they technically are somewhat astronauts, even if it's autonomous.
Read a dictionary, my man. From Oxford Dictionary: A person who travels in space; esp. a person who is (or has been) a crew member on board a spacecraft or on a space mission; (occasionally) an expert in astronautics. Cf. cosmonaut n.
@@jejwich yea. Blue Origin flights still seem like a waste of money. Yea, it may be fun, but it's short lived and expensive. I hope they focus on New Glenn more.
Less than 48 hours after this, SpaceX, having swiftly had their FAA flight restriction lifted, launched two Falcon 9 rockets into *orbit* within an hour of one another.
These stunts will end once they have a failure and lose the passengers (eg through decompression) But good practice for making New Glenn reusable and operational.
@@RobopRU-vid These people making these kinda of comments are just jealous they can't go to space. Instead, they have to live out their miserable lives putting down other people's dreams.
So if they quit calling them astronauts, you SpaceX fanboys would be happy? Not a chance. You would stick to the hate script and move on to the next made up beef with BO. Space is space, enjoy.
You just saw how Boing admitted that they are embarrassed because all they do is talk crap about SpaceX. I think maybe your beef is with Boing seeing how Boing and BO seem so similar and not even in the same ballpark as SpaceX.
@@mr.g937 I think New Glenn will launch next year. They need to do fueling tests, spin prime tests, and static fire tests on both stages. Evaluate all that data. Stack the rocket and perform a wet dress rehearsal. No way all that happens in six weeks, or even six months.
@@odysseusrex5908they’ve already done several fueling tests, upper stage engines have been qualified, same for first stage. not sure if they’ll static fire it though, and don’t just assume a spin prime is needed lmao. spacex fanboy smh
Is it appropriate calling these fortunate few people astronauts, I ask?! I’ve always been of the utmost conviction, that the title of astronaut was limited to those who go through many years of rigorous training and an extremely large amount of dedication, in order to fly to space and work there to some extent, as opposed to some rich people that sit through a few lectures and some safety briefings followed by a short trip to ‘space’!!! I respect them for paying a large amount of money for this brief venture, but these people are passengers flying in a rocket that goes to an altitude of around 100 kilometres, nothing else! 💁♂️ It doesn’t seem an aptly applied gesture to truly trained astronauts giving these people that fine deserved title ~ actually it is completely lacking of respect 🤷
To call these rich people who have the means to buy what are essentially cocktail party bragging rights astronauts, cheapens the title and IMO is an insult to the true astronauts who work their entire careers to earn the title of Astronaut.
Space x running a Lamborghini and it's passengers are very happy This blue origin running a toy Lamborghini and it's kids are happy Space x reached ISS but blue origin can't even reach the orbit 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Blah blah blah.... It's not easy to get into orbit, okay? Go watch everyday astronaut at least. And stop being a SpaceX fanboy, it's not great. Start actually researching.
@@jejwich Sure it's not easy, no one ever said it was, but Orbital managed it in 1990, SpaceX in 2008, Rocket Lab in 2018, Virgin Orbit and Astra in 2021, and Firefly last year. Blue seems unlikely to manage it before next year, if all goes well.
I know the creators of light and fire. I also know the shadow and other creative forms. I'm not making fun of anyone. I love them all. I respect them all. I'm here after dimensions and lives that were stolen long ago. I'm here after different mental placements and processes. How long it's been around. I don't know. .We are in very different lives. And the lives they change professionally happen long after. The processes performed by another form and the characters they created, he took my mind and processed it into me. And he made us burn here by showing us as a different form. We are not in our real bodies and lives. They do this with the professional processes they exhibit. He creates this with very different presentations and theaters. And I am in a dimension where they make personal and arbitrary plans and bring them to life. The lives and dimensions they steal happen long after. I am in a different dimension. And the possibilities of using the forms here as subjects are very high. With the different directions he makes by designing the future. It creates different scenarios. And it reduces the credibility of the person. Spiritual changes are made. And they put people in very difficult situations. We are not in our real lives. But it is an exact plan.
Two questions? What is the difference between a hard landing and a crash? They were all holding their backs. Why don’t they show the ride goers faces, like at an amusement park? I have seen clouds. And they have already told us the life story of the riders. Thank you.
Just an apogee. A joyride where weightlessness is accomplished by "falling" back out of the sky. Not even close to space......it's a joke to take rich people's money.
No, it's definitely in space, and weightlessness is always the result of falling, and the customers, like all tourists, got value for their money in the form of an experience.
No, I don't think that is valid. The passengers got value for their money, a great adventure, and Blue Origin made a profit. That is the purpose of any tourist attraction and it is perfectly valid.
But what exactly is the point of this? To be able to call more people 'astronauts' or what? And are they really astronauts? They don't 'drive' the thing, do they? And what's next? Because I think this was just a jump like last time, and nothing more? Don't get me wrong, I get that it is some kind of achievement, and are glad it went OK, but for what? What's next? Another jump for rich folks?
@@blitzen9849 of course, but what is the point of these jumps? What's their end goal? What's their ambition going forward? Because if they 'just' jump people high enough to be called astronauts, and nothing more, I really don't see the point of it all..
@@MarithaAndersenif u have to money I bet you would do it, if you love space that’s the closest thing to be in space, if I win the mega millions believe me I’ll book seats for me and my daughter and I’ll encourage her to be a real astronaut and maybe that’s the final goal, to encourage people to keep aiming to science and space
@@raulsosa757 lol, not me, I have been on an airplane once, over 40 years ago (or twice, had to get back home again, too) and will NEVER set foot in something that gets off ground ever again. Not even if I got paid to do it, because it was that awful. But the question was not to critics them or those that go, but to ask if that's 'all' they are doing, or if they have more ambitions later on, like we are used to by Spacex.
Oh how quaint; all of those acre feet per bushel Fahrenheit! One day the B.O. team will catch up with the rest of us and realise that most of their potential audience no longer uses those antiquated units. Maybe they'll even explain to the youngsters in the 21st Century world how they used to work. Even the USA has been officially Metric for longer than most of their population have been alive.
Oxford Dictionary: A person who travels in space; esp. a person who is (or has been) a crew member on board a spacecraft or on a space mission; (occasionally) an expert in astronautics. I think they did travel in space, huh? And I'm f... tired to explain that. And I'll not be able to explain it to y'all "experts" that do not do any fricking research.
Sorry for jumping on the pile on....because I actually cheer on Blue Origin (minus their nonsense use of lawsuits to slow others down) for what they are doing....even the space tourism. That being said....calling these people astronauts seems dirty and kind of disrespectful to the people who are actual CAREER astronauts. Putting on a mock flight suit and floating for less than 5 minutes at the Karman line does not make you an astronaut. What's even worse is using this to skew actual astronaut statistics, like claiming that new Sheperd has flown 9% of ALL female "astronauts" in history... Their use of the word is cheapening the accomplishment of real astronauts...all just for their own cheap & disingenuous marketing purposes
Unfortunately, again a very poor, unprofessional sound quality as with most Shepard live reports. There are millions here and you are unable to convey the overwhelming emotions.
Aerospace is more than this, you guys make it looks and seems boring, there are still some updates, when 20 people launch at ones, it is better, with a new tech. I believe me launching my technology on the air and in space won't be this boring. Canada is getting in my way of making this advancement for humanity with several damages and destruction done intentionally to my technology, my body and my life by Cn Tower, Rogers Centre, Toronto Police, LifeLabs, Uhaul and UHN, making space technology in Canada has been faced by damages and destruction done intentionally by Canadians, I am the proof. Space is not mere, it is a necessity, when the call to space arrives, every human on earth will know how important it is, there will be rush hours. I know what is missing and I will ensure it is available in time. BLUE ORIGIN, keep up the good work, and I thank Jeff Bezos for making this possible early.
NS is the dummiest mission in the current space race. They should try orbit. Just crossing Karman line and falling back is not a big deal in current space generation. It would have been a great deal in 1950s, but not now. Look at what other space companies SpaceX, Rocke Lab, Relativity Space,... are doing. Lets hope New Glenn makes to orbit. Funny thing is they display altitude in ft. Who the hell will display kms distance in feet. And they don't even broadcast inside capsule when they feel zero gravity.
