I bought a new shotgun for my daughter. Well, it's new to her. It's actually an older 20-gauge Ithaca model 37 deerslayer that we got on gunbroker. My daughter is a left-handed shooter. The model 37 is a bottom feed and eject, which makes it a great option for right-handed or left-handed shooters.

An excellent option for a southpaw. These were also very popular in crowded duck blinds. Bottom eject made it so you wouldn't pepper the hunter on your right with your empties.

That's a great place I hadn't thought of. We don't have a left safety in it... yet. I need to make it happen for her.

The Ithaca Model 37 is a beautiful shotgun. I don't have one, but I believe it is right there with the Winchester Model 12 and the Remington 870, of which I have both. Just a quick video tip when filming an optics installation or maintenance video, be sure to video the firearm being clear and safe. Keep on involving the kids in shooting sports and hunting. Good job!

Good call, I totally forgot to show that it was clear. I really like the gun. I might end up with another at some point.

I started with that gun 1960 vintage 12ga. borrowed from my Aunt. Was my Uncles that passed. Used it for 10 years. Returned to back to family bought a 1187 12 ga. used it for years. Then rifle was approved. Years later purchased a 1960's vintage 12 ga. Deerslayer scoped it . Great quality gun. Good luck with your hunt. I also hunt Southern Tier outside Canisteo.

The Remington and Winchester are not even in the same category. I have or have had all three. The Ithaca is an heirloom quality slug gun. And while all are plenty accurate, my 12ga deer slayer is the go to every single time. Mine is a little more unique than most in the sense that it is the 18.5” smooth bore which they haven’t produced that option in decades. And Ithaca doesn’t sell a direct replacement barrel to match that spec. Holy cow the memories I’ve made with my trusty flame thrower deer slayer. It’s a stone cold tack driver every time

@@TheHunterGatherer atleast with that one I don't have to change out batteries in it

the only bad thing is that if I lose a cap on the scope I would need to replace the scope because you can't buy Simmons scopes anymore
