The newest lens from Sigma is the 500mm DG DN OS Sports lens for Sony E-mount cameras. It is incredible for wildlife photography and cinematography, with great reach and insanely good image quality. But what is most impressive, is the size and weight for a 500mm prime lens! I am currently filming in Yellowstone National Park and testing out this lens in the harshest of winter environments. It is durable, rugged, and capable of handheld photography. The lens is incredibly sharp as well, making it a fantastic choice for wildlife photographers and cinematographers alike.

Great video. But the real question (for video) will you give up your 60-600mm for this? A one lens that does everything whereas with the 500mm you'll need to bring a wide angle lens as well. :) I personally think the 60-600mm is the poor person's Canon 50-1000mm

Thanks Andy! I would be hard pressed to give up my 60-600mm as my regular go to. The 500mm is absolutely sharper. I found while in Yellowstone, I had two rigs set up, my 60-600 on my A7s III rig, and then the 500mm prime on the FX6. I hope Sigma comes out with a revamped and improved version of the 300-800mm for mirrorless...

Nice lens. I use Nikkor ai s lenses. Very cheap on ebay and great IQ. No autofocus needed. No weathersealing as I'm in a tent 😂

How can you really make wildlife film with a prime lens? Photography with 500mm I can understand, film? How do you tell a story like that?

Just like any scenario, you choose the right set up for the right moment. I don’t think you’d want to use it for every shot in a film, though the creative challenge is brilliant. However, for filming it is incredibly sharp, and in the right circumstances this lens would be the ideal lens for capturing the detail you need for your story. You want a minimum of an 800mm for filming bears (For safety reasons) this lens will become a bit too dark in shadowed forest so I would honestly get another lens
