Companies need to know that even as a professional, when I come to RU-vid to look for reviews, I don't just type in the name of the lens, but I type in "frost" too. I trust you, and often you only. THANK YOU
Incredible how modern lens design allows for 10x zooms to have consistently amazing sharpness corner to corner at every focal length. Well done, sigma.
Just the version of 60-600 that already exists for few years in canon/nikon DSLR mounts. Unfortunately for my Pentax only the previous 50-500 Bigma is available
Bugger. I was kind of hoping there would be a Fuji X-Mount Version. Excellent performing lens. Expensive, but worth it for the versatility and improvements.
@@tridinh1011 People have been using (DSLR) FF telephoto lenses on APS-C cameras for decades and they've performed admirably. Additionally, it makes little sense to develop APS-C specific telephotos as their size & weight advantages diminish with long focal lengths. Have you seen the Fuji 100-400 lens? It's as big as FF 100-400 lenses.
Great review Chris, thank you very much. Side note - CANON, OPEN UP THE RF MOUNT TO 3RD PARTY MANUFACTURERS! This is riddiculus that we, Canon users are limited to old EF version that has AF issues when Sigma is doing such good job on creating the new, upgraded ones. Please, Canon!
God this looks like a great lens, if only we could have it on the RF mount. Would love to see it on my R7, and the 'just okay' performance on APS-C can probably be helped with the Topaz tools
Just get the RF 100-500. Sigma is almost double the weight and is not that much cheaper (taking into account not being a native lens). Still, it is an impressive lens. I just dont know if you really need it in the RF lineup.
@@niceyesplease there's reasons why many people would pick this over the RF 100-500. And it definitely is cheaper. As a canon owner (2 separate bodies) I find it incredibly obnoxious when other canon users go "just get a canon lens". Canon people are so narcissistic.
Just when I bought the Tamron 150-500 a few months ago Sigma comes with this beast 🥲However this Sigma lens is almost 800 grams heavier and almost twice the price. Amazing lens, great review
Honestly this lens doesn't do as much justice from 60-200mm. Who is going to shoot 60mm at 4.5? Not portraits, not landscape, you won't be that close for wildlife. Doesn't make sense to me I would never shoot under 200mm.
Its funny how heavy the 150-600 Sports dropped now in price I would hope for something like a 60-600 in even lighter or with bigger aperture for APS-C.
This is a great performance for a 10x superzoom lens. Just a suggestion: I would like to see the image quality at somewhere around 450mm more than I would like to see it at 125mm; 300mm-600mm is quite a big gap and some subjects, such as deer, do not always need 600mm, but a bit less.
If the Sony 200-600 didn't exist this would be a no brainer. But... the 200-600 is internal zoom and it has a much shorter zoom throw (yes I know because it's got a shorter zoom range, but still). And since the Sony is the same price I'm happy with my choice of buying the 200-600 a year ago and this doesn't tempt me at all.
It's interesting to read the reviews from Sony users comparing this to their native glass. As an owner of both an RF mount body as well as a 5D series, I admit I wish I could do that too :-)
Great timing. I am going to get the new Panasonic S5II when it comes out and was considering getting this lens for wildlife photography as its large zoom range really helps with that. I am impressed by its sharpness for such a huge zoom range lens. Now knowing its price, it costs a bit too much for me so I might get the Sigma 150-600mm instead.
Wow! Such a good optical performance across it's entire zoom range AND impressive macro results too - witchcraft 😳. Superzooms in the past were never this good. Two grand is a lot of money - or is it though? Sounds like incredible value for money. I do like the idea of turning up to a product photography shoot with this, whipping it out and telling the customer it's your "macro" 😂
I use the previous model Sigma 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM SPORT on my Nikon Z6II via the FTZ adapter, and it's already a superb lens. But If Sigma produces this one in Nikon Z mount, I promice to change..... NIKON Z MOUNT!!!!!!!
Maybe they see more revenue in this lens. The market is saturated with 70-200 lenses. But i'm pretty sure they are developing more than 1 lens at the same time.
Oh dear... I was doing so well after Christmas with saving money and now this comes along! Sixty? SIXTY? How did they get it so wide? My 70-350 would be redundant, and the 200-600 will look very inflexible.
Clearly an excellent lens, if you have the need for mega long reach. Once again, it's a pity to see that an excellent new lens by Sigma and Tamron is restricted to such a small number of camera mounts. Really don't anticipate seeing this lens on any Leica bodies!
I have watched your videos for years as a very reliable source of information. Able to make better decisions when commuting to purchasing lenses. A proud contributor in Patreon. However I must ask, where do you have the physical space to test this lens at 600mm on an APS-C camera? 7:33
genuinely wondering: is this sort of zoom range considered overkill in either this lens or other lenses? i'm on a budget with an aps-c body and would like something around this range to fill in gaps for my portraits, but i also really want to shoot wildlife and birds. i've seen/heard other lenses with crazy ranges like this often sacrifice in major areas to the point that it would just be smarter to buy a few lenses for a range rather than just one.
Hey Chris. I had a question if you have experience in the matter. I have had 2 (one being a replacement) sigma 60-600mm and have had focus issues with both. I'm using the sony a7r v with all focus methods tried. When it works it works great but unfortunately the majority is missing focus bad. Have you had any issues with it or did you only have it briefly? Or do you think it is a sneaky sony trick to buy sony lenses?
I think this lens has just tipped the balance for me. I was going to upgrade my old EOS 80D for an EOS R6 II but now I think I'm going to move away from Canon. This lens with a 24 - 70 2.8 will work well for me.
A German dit compare exactly this on his chanel. The Sigma 150-600 was the sharpest of this three lenses followed by the new 60-600 Sigma and the Sony 200-600 was last. All three lenses are sharp but the Sigma lenses are a bit sharper as the Sony. AmazingNature Alpha is the name of this chanel.
Dustin Abbott also compared the three lenses but with different results - Sony and Sigma 60600 is neck to neck in the sharpness and the 150600 is behind. I guess it's down to sample variations of the lenses.
I was looking for a test for a similar spec and quality lens on your channel for my Nikon D850 but I couldn't find one (not pretending there isn't but I found it ...) My be you could help me to make the right choice with sole constraint to not exceed 4 digits.
Strikes me Chris that the first year’s production has gone - all gone to reviewers ! I know you ALWAYS return loaned items, wonder how many are as honest as you ? Ps - not for me but an epic tube 😎
My guess cause at 200mm the (multiple, not just one) focus groups can line up in such a nice way to fully boost it to macro close up, in a way makes sense, since extreme ends of a zoom are harder to make. Focussing close with 500/600mm lens is quite hard, though sony lately seems to have a technology that focusses much closers, the 100-400mm GM started this. For 600mm lens (zoom one) i think it's still hard to make close focus without sacraficing infinity image quality to much (wich is used for birds most of time. Basically Sigma had a working design 60-600mm were happy then though hmmm 'close focus is a rising feature, can we do something'? Engineer: 'don't change formula please it's to good to change,' ok, what about seeing wich focal length is easiest to have macro capabilities at? Engineer 'oh yes now that you say we could actually do that on the middle focal length, wich has the most focus range of all focal length', 'ok that will be great feature, lets do it. :D something like that.
Very impressive. Now the ball is in Sony's court to make a comeback. I hope Tamron comes up with something similar since I prefer their bokeh quality over Sigma.
This lens and the Tamron 35-150 will be the result of Nikon and canons demise if they don’t wisen up quick! Glad I went back to Sony and have the Tamron and will be adding this to my arsenal as well!
Great that I just bought a used 150 - 600 sports with which I'm not very happy to behonest because of tight - lock mechanism, shitty Manual Focus Speed and Ring and average Stabilization. *sigh*
Used....a7ii $500usd, a7riii $1300usd, a9 $1500....not to mention the new a7r5 and of course, the flagship A1. During my next upgrade I'm switching from Canon to Sony. There's a reason why sony's gained so much market share in the last few years. They actually try to deliver what their customers want. I just wish the a7r5 had a better burst speed, comparable to the r5
It's "BAD" Cannon thinks it can Corner the market by not allowin excellent 3rd party lens manufacturers like Sigma to provide good quality lenses with Canon mounts !
Nobody cares about your wildlife photos, lets be honest. And you cant take this lens to sporting events without a photographers permit. Save your 2,000 pounds. Moving on...
Omg. How can you review sport lenses shooting such a crap? People are interested in real life performance of AF shooting moving subjects! I seriously do not care how it keeps contrast and sharpness in maximum zoom and minimum focusing distance because it does not matters for anyone. Its performance with sport cameras like A9, its AF performance with old cameras like A7R3 which were pelroduced before this lens release, because say tamron 35-150 works really bad with old bodies, and af performance with new cameras - it really matters
Shooting rock it is bullshit) because i can simply take a phone and walk by my legs to this subject and take a photo. But who will pay for this? Seagulls? Your reviews are not for photographers at all
I'm thinking of buying a wildlife photography lens for sony full frame. What would be your recommendations between the three models: Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS, Sigma 60-600mm F4.5-6.3 DG DN OS, Sony FE 200-600 mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS? Lower focal lengths aren't that important, as you would really use only 200mm and above
