Thank you! We're going to stick with Dimensions this year. It is going well and I don't want to have to switch back next year since Primary is a K-5 program. I do like the new edition of Primary. They made some great updates.

Unfortunately, I can't really help on this question. We decided to stick with Dimensions for 5th grade, so I'm not confident in giving a time frame for the lessons.

@@HomeschoolwithJen is Dimensions more challenging than Primary? My son finds Math challenging, we are using dimensions 4 and still working on 4A. I did get Primary 4B and Primary 5A / 5B. What is your opinion on Dimensions vs Primary regarding “difficulty to understand/challenging”? TIA

Thank you for asking. Unfortunately, I cannot speak from true experience. We ended up using Dimensions again this year and not Primary 2022. Wish I could be more helpful, but we didn't do much bar modeling in Primary.

When I asked them, they said that they currently did not have plans to do so.

We are using Dimensions for 2 main reasons. The first is that we used it last year and understand how it is set up and consistency with the scope and sequence. The second is that Primary 2022 is a K-5 program. Since my daughter is in 5th grade, I didn't want to switch her from Dimensions to Primary 2022 and then have to switch her back to Dimensions in 6th grade. The switch from Abeka to Dimensions in 4th grade was a tough one and I didn't want to put any additional stress on her regarding math if not absolutely necessary. If you are not using either one yet, then these are the questions that I would ask if we were sitting over coffee having a conversation: 1. How old is your child? If in a lower grade, then I think either one would be great as they are both very solid. 2. How confident are you in teaching math? Primary Mathematics 2022 has a Home Instructor's Guide specifically for homeschool parents. Dimensions does not. It has a teacher's guide and there are many times that you will have to modify the activities since you are not in a classroom setting. 3. How much spiral do you like and how much do you think your child needs? Primary 2022 has more spiral included in it, even though it is a mastery approach. I bring in additional spiral activities to the Dimensions program. I hope this helps. Great question! We are starting with Dimensions this year. It was a tough transition last year so I want to stay with that since we made it over the transition hump. If we come to any concepts that are really tough to grasp, then I will go to 2022 to see if it is explained any differently. However, so far, I haven't really found that much of a difference in any of the explanation. What I do plan on using is the Mastery and Beyond worksheets. They look amazing and like they will really help for the reinforcement that we need. Then, I can pick and choose those as they best apply. Also, my home instructors guide for 2022 just arrived today, so I'm going to do a flip through of it and see if it helps provide any additional explanation for difficult concepts.
