I ain't spending $200.00 on a SOG. I went to Sportsman Warehouse to get an Seal XR and the jimping all around the handle made it feel like shit. I bought a ZT instead.
@mister smith have it and love it.. I just smoothed the jimping around with sandpaper and it's one of my favorite folders together with benchmade adamas and spyderco military..
I carry the Terminus XR every day and love it. It saddens me to see SOG making overpriced assisted garbage when they've shown that they have what it takes to make high-quality affordable knives.
My sentiments exactly. They used to produce a great value high quality line, now they're selling crap at premium pricing. Don't worry. It'll bite them in the Arse sooner than later.
Some are good. It is an easy way to get your knife open when working and don't want to flick your knife in a cramped space..... but I said the same thing, even time stamped it too 😆 so yea a good non assisted knife is easy better for most of us. Springs feel a little gimmicky.
The only benefit to the assisted knives is that some states still restrict autos. People want what they cant have and assisted gives a legal substitute. Thankfully, my state got rid of those laws not too long ago. After actually getting what I wanted (an auto for EDC), the novelty wore off and now I carry a manual ball bearing. Funny how that works.
I have learned that in the knife community 'gentleman' means: I spend more money than value received. If a knife has that gentleman labe then it's going for premium price for those upity boys.
@@charlessalmond7076 I thought $300 for my Benchmade presidio 2 auto with aluminum scales and a cpm m4 blade was expensive...are any of these SOG knives even US made?
440? Why not put d2 on that, some nice designs just price points seem not very competitive, I do like the sheats design, and why not do a black version of that small fixed blade along side orange?
It's funny how the OEM guy is totally calling it "sog" and yet a couple years ago, SOG got really crazy about making sure people were saying S.O.G or Studies and Observations Group.
@@mattrc77 yeah I remember! Kinda stupid too how they changed the logo to have the entire acronym. When I think of SOG I think of super secret special forces not crap that loudly spells it out in front of everybody!
They make their money through a thing called excessive markup. That $300 "premium" knife in the beginning is made up of mediocre materials but demanding a premium price point. When you look at it from a materials standpoint, there's less than $70 in materials. For that price I expect Ti handles, Skiff bearings and Elmax or Magnacut.
What happened to glass breakers? I’ve been carrying a Flash 2 w/ glass breaker for years and haven’t upgraded because I like the piece of mind to be able to easily break out a window if needed. Am I alone here?
GSM VP doesn't seem to know these products very well. The prices seem a little high for the materials and location of manufacturer. Then again, everything is going up in price.
SOG "Make Crap Knives out of mediocre materials then charge premium prices". SOG used to make great products at competitive prices using decent materials. Those days are long gone and their reputation is constantly under attack. And rightfully so!
Did the SOG rep say that by them branding the knife down the spine with "Studies and Observations Group" makes it more premium? I also agree with everyone else, assisted is out.
I really like the new line up 👍. I didn't think I was going to like their releases this year, I'm happy to be wrong on that👍. In my opinion if anyone lost their way this year it's ColdSteel😔🤷. That's probably not a big surprise to anyone though 🤷.
They lost their way when they quit building quality knives and started building cheap trash that was barely a step above gas station knives. At least now they have discovered that people will also pay money for knives with good steel. They sat on the success of their name for a long, long time and made nothing really new or innovative. Only when people quit buying their cheap, garbage tacticool knives did they realize they wouldn’t be around very long if they didn’t take steps to save their company.
@@FriedPi-mc5yt Yep that's how I see it also👍 I think SOG will make a comeback, we'll wait to see what the lineup looks like in 2024🤷. This year they took a step in the right direction only time will tell if they will listen to the knife community.
I'm kind of baffled by most of this line up. Its like they travel back 20 years and asked what people want. Nobody likes assisted knives, all that tells me is we couldn't get our pivot right. And nobody even has a bayonet lug gasblock anymore
@@davidgarrett5671 Hate to break it to you bud, but real knife enthusiasts, aka the target audience that SOG is attempting to cater too, do not mess with anything assisted. That's the truth, assisted died back in 2015 after the community realized that company's have finally perfected their detents on manual knives. Then throw in the fact that ball bearing pivots added a whole new dimension to the closing action with free falling blades, and assisted knives became as sought after as HIV in the 90's. Gerber, Kershaw and CRKT literally come out with 100's of new assisted knives each year; more then enough for the like 8 assisted die hards that are left. SOG dug themselves outta that niche over a long period, only to revert back to the same designs that killed their brand reputation to begin with. Hence why they went bankrupt and got bought out by the brand on this guys shirt.
@@wes.killed.it.5511 Well,I guess I can’t be a knife guy. Thanks for telling me. And how long did it take you to survey all the knife buyers in the world? Guess Ken Onion isn’t a knife guy either.
@@wes.killed.it.5511 you have no idea what you are talking about. I have contacts with a few companies in the industry, and the reason they still make assisted knives is because they don’t cater to the “knife community” as much as they do the average person. The knife community makes up maybe 20% or sales. All the complaining from the knife bros falls on deaf ears until a company will occasionally throw a bone to the 20%
$300 for S35VN? Why not just jack the price to $400? Benchmade did. And WTF are they still using that stupid clip that allows your pant seam to wrap around the back and seizing up the withdrawal? It's no wonder the Chinese makers are KILLING it!
@@KimballPrecision In my line of work, if I need my knife, I need it immediately. Deep carry puts the knife in a position that it’s harder for me to get to it. I don’t mind having a bit of handle sticking out of my pocket. It makes it easy to grab the knife.
@@FriedPi-mc5yt there is a reason knive’s has a little hole at the butt end. Check it out. You might find it useful. Also check out the pocket clips on some of Hogue’s autos. Ballista has a rlly nice clip with jimping.
If GSMis going to have a spokesperson that speaks of world premieres of SOG knives, ey need to use someone who is a bit more knowledgeable rather than a big wig whom uses very vague dialogue. "Near and dear to our hearts" - yeah.. sure sounds that way. GSM demolished a promising SOG uprising from last year.
@@mistersmith3986 definition of switchblade according the us import laws: (3) Unassembled knife kits or knife handles without blades which, when fully assembled with added blades, springs, or other parts, are knives which open automatically by hand pressure applied to a button or device in the handle of the knife or by operation of inertia, gravity, or both; or It doesn’t matter if it’s assembled or not. Spyderco got hit with something for importing Bali parts years ago. My guess is that sog is claiming to be a “contractor for the the armed forces”, which is a loophole to the import laws.
@@AJbercher yea I got my dad a knife for his birthday (56) and I was telling him about it, and my grandpa says what happened to lockbacks and Barlows? I'm like a lot has changed in 50 years!
No, everyone does not like assisted opening. Yall are trying to hide the terrible action of your knives. Visionary 2 was gold. Sog has gone down hill since.
"that's gonna be a big win for us...." That guy drips of corporate interest, without much interest in the user experience. GSM definitely looks out for themselves more than their customers. GSM will be slow the death of so many brands. It's just a matter of time.
So did they think this OEM guy would be passionate about blades?? Is that why sog sat him at the table?? I wish this guy would be less hardcore, his enthusiasm is just too much.
No, they are a large knife retailer. They are going from booth to booth. Not grasping my friend. Business. If they didn’t have people buying SOG’s they wouldn’t bother sharing. 🤔😉
they still dont get it...." EVERYONE LOVES AND ASSISTED KNIFE RIGHT." No mtfr they dont. We enthusiasts hate it. People that like it are amatures and will realise quickly they dont like it. Otherwise i like the line keep it up.
Can definitely tell This Ginger that Blade HQ has doing these videos knows absolutely nothing about the knives he's talking about he's awful can tell he not a knife guy .
