Something a little different but it also crosses over with the banding side.
The Indian Naval Ship Tabar leaving London after a four day visit.
The Tabar is a Talwar-Class frigate of the Indian navy, the name Tabar translates into "Battle Axe"
The ship leaves London under Tower Bridge with a band playing on the flight deck and the crew manning the side of the ship. I am reliably informed that the band was playing the Indian National Anthem.
Thanks go to @about.london from TikTok who made me aware that the ship was leaving.

3:59 Some dude in the background mistakenly calling this INS Kolkata lol. INS Kolkata is MUCH larger than this. Its a Destroyer whereas INS Tabar is the low end of the Indian frigates' high-low capability mix.

6:37 Yeah, this ship needs a refit. I thought we had already replaced all those Russian-origin SRGM with Indian-built Oto Merla 76mm. And that arm launcher is an eyesore. Russian Shtil-1 needs to be replaced by Indian VL-SRSAM across the Indian fleet.

@vickyRoyalHistory Hello Vicky, hope you're well. Thanks for your interesting news about the bridges, a detailed lesson of history i much appreciate! I studied british history, literature, geography, culture.. for 8 years, at secondary school (3 years) & Lyceum (5 years), then 2 years at Academy of Languages with english teachers. I love british world, since i was a kid, and today by RU-vid i'm discovering the Kings Guards world❤️ Last week me & my sister spent few days in Malta; on that occasion i could see the maltese Artillery at Victoria Gardens (where we usually go) for their 'Saluting Battery' every day at 12 o'clock and 16 o'clock (the famous 04 o'clock also in Malta!!). We visited also the Aquarium, where at upper floor there are finds and footages of W.W.1 & 2. Too hot there, as at home. Next month we fly to High Pirenees. Before this video, you perhaps replied to another comment, but I don't remember it. Sorry my little question, Vicky: are you british born or from Australia? Sorry. Hope to meet you again and stay well ever. Good afternoon!!

The Raj may be gone, but it's clear British military style lingers in the modern Indian Navy, albeit with an Indian flourish. Given the band aboard, it’s a safe bet the INS Tabar’s itinerary had important diplomatic overtones. The U.K. stop came on the return leg of a trip to Russia, where the Talwar-class ships have been designed and built for the Indian Navy. As of April this year, INS Tabar was one of six such frigates now in service. On this trip, INS Tabar participated in the Russian Navy Day Parade, took part in an India-Russia Maritime Partner Exercise - notably in the Baltic not the Black Sea - and in another Maritime Partner Exercise with the German Navy off Kiel Canal. In London, the band reportedly played to enthusiastic audiences from the Indian diaspora; the ship’s crew did community service with UK military pensioners, and the ship received a visit from Admiral Sir Ben Key, First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff. Once again, Mr. Baton, you captured video of an interesting ship whose activities, in this case, are illustrative of the diplomatic tightrope the Indian government is walking these days between Russia and Europe.

One can see the Russian design lineage in this ship from the fact that it has a hangar for only a single helicopter, as can be seen at 4:48 . Had this been an Indian designed warship of Frigate or Destroyer category, it would have had a hangar for at least TWO helicopters. Talwar is the last Surface Combatant of a foreign design to enter Indian Navy service. And also the last Indian warships to be built overseas. All current and future vessels of Indian Navy are built in Indian shipyards, with the sole exception of the last two Talwar class frigates that are currently in the final stages of construction in Russia.
@death_parade

British Military style that lingers is slowly being replaced by Indian style and symbols. Take the Indian Naval Ensign, for example. The current Indian Naval ensign has the Blue Octagon as seen at 5:08 . This Octagon is modeled after the _Raj mudra_ (the Imperial Seal) of the Maratha Empire. The previous Indian Naval Ensign had Saint George's Cross, same as the one on Royal Navy's ensign. The change was made in 2022. Hopefully they adopt more Chola Empire traditions. Chola Navy was the strongest in the world in its time.

@@death_parade As a footnote to your observation, but on the music side of things, during the spectacular 2024 Republic Day Parade, India's military bands, according to one commentator, were requested by the government to abandon traditional martial music for a more Bollywood-style blow out. I presume at least some of the vetoed martial music would have been of British origin. Two years ago, also by government order, the traditional hymn, Abide with Me, a favourite of Mahatma Gandhi, was ditched as were all non-Indian pieces from the Beating Retreat ceremony. "De-Britification" of India's armed forces appears to be on the Modi government's agenda.

That’s a great shot at 3:04 , the light is quite atmospheric (although I’m not so sure the fumes that appear to be emanating from the middle of the “Tabar” would be that beneficial to the atmosphere) This video certainly qualifies as a proper MrB video, superbly shot from a good vantage point and there’s a band in it (did you know there would be a band or was that a nice surprise?)😎 Thank you MrB for giving us a chance to see the mechanical marvel of the bridge again👍

Mr. Baton, thank you for that as Tower Bridge brings back memories from way back. Soon after becoming a Senior Inspector of Works employed by one of the UKs leading Civil Engineering Consultants, I was asked to assist in the inspection of Tower Bridge and so I've explored the depths of the old engine room, the workings of the bridge raising gear and walked the over head gallery, before it was opened to the public. My elder brother performed a car stunt by driving over the opening road decks, he was driving an E Type in the John Wayne film Brannigan. I owned one of the Famous Dunkirk Little Ships from 1995 till 2010 and often sailed her under Tower Bridge on trips from the Upper Thames to Ramsgate and Dover. We took part in the 5 yearly Returns to Dunkirk, coming down the Thames in convoy with 10 or more other Dunkirk boats led by the Hon Admiral Raymond Baxter of BBC fame, being an ex RAF pilot his VHF radio messages were poetic. I last passed under Tower bridge after celebrating King Charles Coronation aboard my friends Dunkirk Little Ship, White Marlin who was attending a gathering in St Katharine Dock. Returning to her mooring at Teddington. So thank you again for posting INS Tabar leaving shots and having the band onboard made it special for lots of onlookers. Well done.

Modi government and its privatisation drive are the reason we have a full end to end ecosystem in artillery today, or the negative import lists. Granted that there is still a LOT to be done, like preventing shifty private players from rebranding imported stuff, but the fact is Modi and parrikar had the guts to challenge the lobby. Reigning in the import addicted and unaccountable top military leadership, bureaucracy and affiliated lobbies is why the LCA Tejas could be seen inducted. Indian shipyards were (still are) already full with the orders Navy has given to them. Yet Navy had CAPEX to spare and needed more warships. Which is why the Talwar class order was extended from 6 to 10 ships. Out of the additional 4, only 2 are being built in Russia. These are literally the last foreign-built ships to enter Indian Navy service.

What would happen if this ship sailed through the Thames without tug boats? Would its engine and propellers be too powerful and create waves or would it crash into Tower Bridge? Also, in the old days when we had wooden war ships, were small boats needed like today to pull and steer a wooden warship or other through the Thames? Thanks. 🇮🇳 🇬🇧
