Probably not coincidentally, this reminds me a lot of one of the Uriel Ventris books. Ventris returns from the penitent mission to the Eye of Terror, and after being cleared for service by the Grey Knights, takes command of a squad that his old 2nd took over after his departure. The dude was not particularly pleased about losing his command to Uriel if I remember right. I have a feeling we may be seeing quite a few ultramarine book plot points again here
Titus is actually a take on Ventris. The previous developers at Relic said that they were inspired by the lore of Ventris, and saw him as the only cool Ultramarine.
We've actually seen the fight against the Zoanthrope in one of the extended gameplay reveals a few months ago but the cutscene was definitely really cool.
Rookie doesn't know that some Astartes are induced to the Deathwatch as penance for a crime they committed. Anyone that has played the first game know what f-ery was afoot that led to Titus joining them.
If memory serves me right, Valrak covered abt Titus's lore after the inquisitor, so basically he was tortured for info and put into a stasis pod, and then another inquisitor raided the original inquisitor bc he was getting too suspicious. Found the numerous marines in stasis pods, freed them and they joined the watch. Titus joined as a black shield, and then he got rediscovered after his team died. Ya, also Ultramarines consider it an honour to be seconded to the watch. Some get sent bc they're insufferable lol.
@@turtlehead8386 Reminds me, Cato Sicarius should be there, it would do him some good and put Titus back in his old position as Captain of the 2nd Company.
Interesting Titus reaction to their question on his term in the deathguard means one of 2 things. Either Titus still feels resentment for his demotion or he might have been in so many intense battles he may have lost more comrades than he cares to remember. Also interesting is now the studs represent canonically 200 years of service when most people genuinely thought it was just a 100 or 50. Also these marines must be just a few years in service as they were surprised that Titus was a first born that crossed the Rubicon. So they probably haven't met many first born that converted to Primaris.
*Deathwatch, not Deathguard. Ones' xenos hunters, the other is fart machine galore 🤣 You were spot on on the last line I feel. How many 1st born are alive too is another question I pose.
Titus' reaction is probably because of the reason for joining the Deathwatch. He most likely was forced to join after the ending of the first game as a penitence crusade and was a Black Shield during service in the Deathwatch.
he barely survived while he served with the deathwatch. the previous WD article tells us that he was the last surviving brother of a mission when the ultramarines found and saved him. the resentment must come from his "unworthy" second chance in service
Ngl, with the rate on how quickly marines die, along with the massive risk to cross the rubicon at first, not surprised if a lot of firstborns died b4 or during the process.
Not holding my breath, but I hope his Deathwatch armor is an option for campaign, like a completion reward or something. Better yet, a prequel DLC set during his time in the Watch
I think the reason it’s not being put on other platforms like instagram and RU-vid is bc I think their actually playing it live. Instead of a prerecorded scene
@@archongaur1191 Its not the knighthood thing that's awkward, its the flow of the conversation lol. Its like 2 kids on the autism spectrum having a role playing session on the playground with 7 second pauses between each response 😂
this is 100% their first mission together in the game and the first mission in general when the campaign starts. There is definitly an awkwardness especially for titus not wanting to talk much as we clearly saw in officially released videos with dialog. The other marines are clearly curious and are trying to break the ice and figure out Titus to some degree.
@@PhaeronServinus dunno feels like every other game cutscene i have seen in my life... pauses are probably because TItus hesitated to talk about his past.... there were other cutscenes in previous gameplay footages where dialogue flow was different (without pauses) when they talked about other things....
So far, I like Titus being very reserved about his past, and his younger squaddies being doubtful about his past. This is a leaked first impression of the game, and the story could go in a hundred directions from here on out.
Agreed they should be showing these types of clips so we can get hyped up for it, thanks for sharing, I will be picking up the ultra edition when I get back from work, can’t wait till the 20th
Hype is a bad drug. It's ok to be excited for a game, but hype will destroy your experience. Overhype has ruined experiences for people even if those experiences are good. That's what hype does
I like how right at the start Valrak tries to temper our expectations of the quality of the video by telling us it's from a phone AND from games con canada. What are we bad at filming, lol
I think it would be better to be the son of literally anybody other than Dorn, considering the murder-suicide attempt he pulled at their expense at the Iron Cage.
@@dandaman9496 he has zero powers and he is the most incompetent primarch there is to the point of where he makes fulgrum look smart by comparison. he literally has nothing going for him other than the writers saying their good while simultaneously proving them selves wrong with each decision gulliman makes that weakens the imperium 1 piece at a time (dont get me wrong hes ight when theirs other primarchs with him but he is also the most annoying piece of shit when he is in charge)
@@generalshock4359 Right… Thats why he was preserved so well to the point he came back. Why his people are the best quality example of what the imperium should be. He controlled a space empire before the Emperor found him. Why before Primaris 75% of space marines descended from his lineage. Because he is incompetent with zero powers. Right, keep guarding that intellect fortress in your head. You make the Black templars proud.
@@dandaman9496 dude he looked at all of the imperium and said WE NEED LESS SOLDIERS also he was never the best of the imperium it was always propaganda bs because AGAIN he has no powers your incompetence is fucking over whelming
TBH I am not tracking all of the WH40K materials and updates because I am only following the video games. BUT the ending of Space Marine 1 is some Half Life 2 Ep. 2 class cliffhanger and I wonder why it's resolved in some GW magazine
They're probably just doing it as a vague reference to Mira from SM1. She looks similar, and probably plays a similar role, even if she's a completely different character
No, there are some famous Cadian officers who are men. Creed is one of them, but he has a daughter who has replaced him though. GW is trying to include more women characters to appeal to women in the hobby. There was that whole women Custodes debacle on social media. Which by the way, incase you don't know, there are women only factions in 40k. The Sisters of Battle are regular sized women who are nuns who have space marine armor and guns. Also, the Custodes have their own women only faction called the Sisters of Silence. I think they are really cool and I'm annoyed they got no attention during the whole "we need women Custodes" debate on social media...
I've honestly lost all hype for this game. It's just constant drips and drabs of tiny bits of gameplay and that gives me flashbacks to the callisto protocol. If this game is just more of the first game but in a 2024 coat of paint, I'll be extremely disappointed
There's so much wrong with this intro. The fact that the Imperial Guard aren't even shocked to their core that not just 1, but 5 Astartes AND a Thunderhawk are in front of them is pretty stupid. I feel like the developers are gonna fuck this game up from a lore perspective. The CGI trailer creators got it perfect, but the intro scenario direction when it comes to their reactions in this is really bad.
