Hi Matt, I know you know all about the AEV products. The AEV rear bumper with tire carrier made with boron steel. It’s lighter and stronger than regular steel. So with a heavier tire you want to save weight wherever you can and boron steel is 40% lighter than regular steel. It’s the second hardest substance to diamond. Love the build and cool color. Thank you for sharing.
Ryan gets your Bumper. I like my steel factory bumper for the License plate location and the Sensors. haven't seen an aftermarket bumper that keeps the license plate location. they all weld an attachment there for a D-ring.
Good info. Thanks for sharing. I have the TeraFlex HD tire carrier, but not the tailgate hinge part. I've had a 37 inch hanging on the stock hinges for over three years now. It doesn't rattle, it doesn't drop and closes like it should. Not saying it would hold more than that, though the stock tailgate doesn't get enough credit for being able to hold up. Only because it's made of Magnesium, it doesn't bend. I wish there was more trust in it rather then just replacing it. And save people a few bucks.
Thanks for sharing‼️ Glad to hear your Jeep has a name now, and hope your all doing good. I know there's alot of us out here, that can't thank you guys enough, for sharing all of the information that we get to see from trial and error from your channel...
Nice informative video. The 40’s look massively awesome! Would like to see it do some rock crawling. Might want to mention to be careful with the connector for the camera. Unlike the wiring for the 3rd brake light that you can cut, splice, extend for whatever reason you might have, the camera cable is fiber optic. For those who don’t know, you don’t want to bend it too sharply, or cut it mistaking it for a wire.
this foam sticker pieces to go under the bracket are a great idea. Not only do they cover the unpainted areas there, but more importantly, they create a layer between dissimilar metals so you don't get galvanic corrosion starting. Now if only Jeep did this with the door hinges, they wouldn't have all the corrosion warranty claims. Actually might use my vinyl cutter and cut some pieces of a thin material like that to go under all my hinges. Or maybe someone makes an aftermarket set or protectors?
We just put one of those Alpha HD carriers on our JL, and man... It's a great product, it absolutely is, but the install was such a headache. Between the bracket hinges, the tailgate sliding nutplates, the carrier itself, and the weight of everything, it took me 3 different work sessions to get everything aligned to where the tire is touching the bracket and the tailgate closes on the striker properly. 100% not Teraflex's fault though. It's still a 10/10 product, but buyers should know what they're getting into with this one.
40” tires look bad-ass, I will agree, but is there an after-market crane you can install in the back of the Jeep that will lift those heavy-as-lead wheels and tires onto the tire carrier? Looks is one thing, but you need to be able to lift those darn things off and onto the spare tire carrier, and after watching you guys struggle to put that one on the back, I think that if you need 3 guys to get a tire onto the spare carrier, 40” is just a bit much for the average guy
Looks awesome Matt! You're gonna need a J-Barr top lift set up with a power winch and secure it to the ceiling so you can lift that top off with ease, so you don't have to strain to manually lift your top over that monster 40 spare! Another awesome video guys!
Your backup sensors might become an issue in the future. I have a 21 JLU Rubicon. I installed Westins WJ2 rear bumper that retains the backup sensors. The placement of the backup sensors is different. I had to extend my wire harness by several inches for one sensor. Then I came to realize that the sensors sit higher in the bumper. This wasn't an issue until I mounted my 33" spare tire. Park sense kept warning me that a sensor was dirty and then would shut off park assist. Came to realize that the 2 middle sensors were seeing my spare tire. To fix the issue I installed Teraflex's tire carrier and raised my 33" tire as high as the carrier would go. Worked like a charm. Well next week I'm going with a 3.5" lift, KMC Tank wheels, 37" Baja Boss MT tires and regearing to 4.88 for my manual trans. Already have the Tazer JL installed. I'm wondering if the Park Sense sensors will see my 37" spare. I noticed that the Tazer JL Mini lets me recalibrate the sensors so I might have play with that. All that aside, I installed Teraflex's tailgate hinge 2 weekends ago and it's definitely a huge upgrade. It's STOUT! Big Jeep is looking good.
Big fan of the show been watching for a long time! Would love to get your Extreme Recon Hinge Reinforcement bracket. I have a 18 sport with 35s and in need of it! Wont ever go any bigger with tires cause jeep is pulled behind a motorhome. Please let me know what I could do to get this from you! Thanks for the many informational videos.
Just a heads up you're 99% going to experience a power steering overheat warning at some point running 40s. They make a cooling kit for the electric pump itself
Maybe he should stop naming Jeeps when he hits Middle School. 🤣 The 40s do look good. Knowing what you know now, would you put some kind of coating on the unpainted parts, or are the covers enough?
