Most people don’t realize that the grip safety on the XD’s is mainly to help make holstering 100% safe. If you place your firing hand thumb on the back of the slide it makes it impossible for the gun to go off even if the trigger is depressed. I love this feature.
I like the fact that the GUIDE ROD of the recoil spring assembly is "ALL STEEL," --no cheapening here and not plastic as some manufacturers like to do under the guise of "weight saving." Because if that plastic guide rod breaks or snap...
Personally I love the grip safety feature on XDs etc. This is a conceal carry gun, not a range toy. So any detractors concerning extended firing don't matter imo assuming you're purchasing for carry.
I'll tell you this, if I ever have to defend myself and the police confiscate it until I'm judged innocent (if then), it's a hell of a lot better than losing one of my Kimber's or Sig's. Lmao.
If one was going to concealed carry, I would think one would shoot it pretty often to keep the skills sharp with the firearm that one intends to carry....
I know this is old post, screw the politics involved, it's my very favorite first pistol company or best pistols I've used. I have very 1st .45 xd ever made, I'm sure triggers are better on newer models. I gotthat forst .45 GAP version which i love,it just never caught on. The 9mm was so improved so quickly the GAP became less neccassary. But a .45 in a 9mm package feels so damn good to shoot. That's why i love it. 45 power, kicks like a 9mm but less snappy. You know how 9's have that specific snap to them, even 45 ACP feels less crazy as far as recoil,i just dont get why. Hopefully il find out why one day. I continuously come back to SPRINGFIELD,MY FAVE FIREARMS. If i could, the victor saint and others are amazing Springfield ARs for the models and the new RDP Hellcat with compensator and a gen 2 trigger i plan on purchasing as soon as iy's available at msrp. Covid proces are double, even triple msrp for certain rifles. Like a Chiappa Rhino .357 is $1500 which has msrp of $950 or so. , Springfield wont admit but the old trigger made it not allowed as an off duty L.E. pistol so that's true reason i really think they fixed the trigger and re-released the hellcat with safety and compensator whoch means a threaded barrel which usually u gotta buy seperate for $200 at least. Id rather buy threaded and get non-threaded when i didnt need it. It makes $ raise too much by the time you buy all the RDP extras. An old Holograpic site was $350 used,$400 was high. Now an EOTech is $650 for a used shitty one. I new better but my family made me believe cause it was ebay id get a fake airsoft site that looks like new eotchs. The new double stack 9mm Springfields look amazing. The have 15 or 18 mag capacity, really compact ones i think are 10 max. Does anyone know if the compact versions of the tactical, elite, and other osp and non osp ready Sprongfiepds all take the extended mags cause it diesnt say, it just says the magwell was shortened. So does that mean shortened to 10 bullets allowed only, or anything over pits just has the extended mag look? I really love these springfiepd mods2 pistols and quite a few versions to choose. I just want to make sure if i ended up getting a compact, would all magazines be compatible. ANYONE KNOW THE ANSWER TO THAT? MY .45 GAP IS NOT AFFORDABLE TO PRACTICE WITH, I NEED TO REPLACE IT WHICH WAS a full sized tactical pistol, i just want to replace it with Springfield's best most modern tactical 9mm. 16 to 18 rounds like SIG,BARETTA, GLOCK, basically all the last firearms that came out at that time and had certain endurance and capacity requirements. I think the new baretta m9 looks great,a real shame military went sig, I've heard the new sig is so bad troops are digging up old ass m9s that still work well. A lot of the issues supposedly due to old mags and once they got new ones, the m9s were working just fine again. So I've been told. Just hearsay from a National guardsman but both m17 and m18 sig modular pistols are total pieces of shit . (Just look at what modular parts from sig actually cost. Like the skeltonized slide and a threaded barrel. It's ridiculous compared to any other prices except maybe COLT.)
I never thought I would buy a gun of any kind. Recent events have made me decide to get one.I am buying this exact 9mm . This video was very helpful and informative. Thanks so much.
I bought this Springfield XDS-9mm with a Crimson Trace Red Dot Laser Sight for my daughter & it's her 1st edc. She seems to love it & got comfortable with it really fast. I like it as well & may even get one in a .45 ACP. Great video & keep up the good work.
I have both xds 9mm's (original and 2.0). The 2.0 is the firearm i've purchased that needed no modifications out of the box. Of course the Hellcat came out literally 2 months after I bought this, but there is no need to upgrade. This thing came with 5 mags, bag, and night sights for $399.99. I couldn't be happier.
Wow nice. I just got mine for 417 out the door with two magazines and a cardboard box LOL but I just bought it two weeks ago and if you know anything right now I'm just getting your hands on a good gun is crazy especially trying to find one locally like I do I do like it
I love Springfield. And i have this gun. And honestly its the best edc I've ever had. And i live in the country and shoot thousands of rounds a year. Im not the guy who just puts it in a safe. And it's a great gun.
jeff ludlam good to know, I had a Mod1 and it was a good feeling/shooting gun but I sold it for 2 reasons. 1- my hand kept pushing the slide stop inadvertently and the slide didn’t lock back. Happened enough times for me not to wanna carry it. 2 the grip was too aggressive and hurt my paws after the first mag😏.
Im a glock guy but really wanted a change from another 43 or 43X. So i picked up this same model and very impressed. This thing is built like a tank and ready to go right out the box!!! And i also kind of like the pinky extension it pushes up on my grip and makes it feel locked in more secure.
I own this model xds mod 2.0 9mm as well, however mine was osp ready and came with a Crimson Trace auto brightness type red dot. Their 1500 model? There was no night sight, just metal white dot sights, front and rear. No raised loaded chamber indicator either. However the accuracy was second to none with this set up. I fired a pattern, (exact center mass, head shot), on a human body silhouette, paper target and shot a hole the size of a quarter in 6 consecutive shots, with one inch low shot, using the 7 round mag. I grant you, while firing from a range booth, that I was seated, braced and unhurried. Reason being, although the firearm came with a red dot, it did NOT come installed, which is why I was seated and braced to zero the red dot. Nevertheless at 10 yards, using standard brass case FMJ 9mm Remington ammo, that was a phenomenal shot pattern. I'm more than pleased and highly impressed with the performance of this firearm.
X d s ma two was my first pistol. I got it with the stainless steel Slide. Absolutely loves the gun.. It will eat any bullet. You give it not one jam up.
Seems every Springfield that gets reviewed on RU-vid has a shit ton of political hate in the comments. I was a Springfield fan back before this crap started and I'm still a Springfield fan. Springfield is a huge company that supports the wellbeing of hundreds, if not thousands of employees. I won't let the actions of a few greedy executives turn me away from supporting a great product and the employees that built it. Funny thing is... most of the haters are members of the NRA, who with it's current leadership structure, has made more deals to enrich themselves and screw over the 2nd Amendment than Springfield executives could ever dream of.
I think the takedown lever flipping up instead of down is a very nice touch, it allows the takedown lever to double as a thumb rest for a bit extra grip and leverage to fight recoil.
I love the SA XD series. I own a XDM in 9mm. It has chewed a few hundred rounds so far including solid lead rounds, not one malfunction. I installed a Holosun 507C optic on it,love it. I just ordered a XDS . All the main features that the XDM has the XDS has as well. These pistols are reliable, ergonomic and accurate. They are a blast at the range. Personally I feel you just get more bang for the buck out of the XD series than any other striker fired pistol out there. Thanks for sharing.
Don't forget, from now on the possible front rail accessories list has to include a plastic straw! LmAo Excellent presentation, again. I don't know how you do it, but bottle it!
@@danielmcbride4828 You’re going to *love* it. It’s so solid, even as a compact weapon - it’s got weight in all the right places, it’s light where it should be, trigger is very positive with a consistent break, recoil is actually very smooth too. Fantastic, fantastic firearm.
@@F-Man I'm actually caring it for the first time today walking through Walmart as we speak LOL I do like how small it is though as soon as I can get in my truck walk around and it don't really hinder me in any way
I will say this, if Springfield took the time to put in a glowing front sight blade, then the same this should of happen with the rear. In the very dark conditions you might be able to see the forward blade , but you won't know where it's really pointed. The shelf and the rear serrations make sense for the rears however. Also I'm not with the 7 round mag grip extension either. A Pearce grip extender is much better, and you get the longer angle you said you wish you had. So while it can make a good EDC they still could of made it a true EDC by giving it more night time functionality to save your butt, by allowing you to be possibly quicker. FYI@KS a Streamlight TLR-6 fits that rail rather flush.
I agree, rear night sights are preferred but this really does pretty, especially up close and personal. Good to know about the Streamlight! Thank you and cheers Greg!
I found the first gun magazine I ever bought, a Guns & Ammo from 1982. From then till now I never heard any complaint about the grip safety on a 1911. Why is this even an issue on an XD?.... I have an XD40 service model & never had any issue with it's grip safety. Only issue is mag release button doesn't engage easily. I hope newer models have this corrected.
Whiners are gonna whine. The company did what it had to do once they realized the mistake they made. I wonder when Glock will answer to selling guns and accessories to ISIS and Al Qaeda? Google it!
I purchased one about two months ago and could not be happier. Springfield Armory products are perfectly manufactured. I will agree with you on one thing though, my hands are a little bit bigger too and with the 9 round mag it feels absolutely perfect. Don't get me wrong, I can handle the gun fine with the seven round mag but it just feels a lot more natural with the nine rounder so that's just how I carry it
Nothing but the best reviews from my favorite gun reviewer in youtube ,definitely getting this!!.. just like guns for concealled carry thank you!!😀👊👊🍺🍺
From a good rest, and trying real hard , i was getting 2.5 inch groups at 50 yards .. its capable of extreme accuracy. Howver the break of the trigger hurts you untill you get used to it.. it rolls through the reset . Its not a glass shattering break like a 1911 or even a glock. But it is repeatble. And its real easy to stage that trigger halfway through the break.. this is how i was able to get them exceptional groups. The holosun helped
I have one and really like it. I bought mine 1 1/2 - 2 years ago and it has the white rear sights and the red fiber optic front sight. Great gun. I would love to get a 10 round magazine instead of the 7,8,9.
If you want a higher capacity mag, buy the XDs 9mm sub compact. It holds 16 rounds - Double Stack. I owe one. But in CA you can only have a 10 round maximum. The courts just ruled that a larger capacity is legal. Don't know if the state will appeal.
Swung by Academy Sports yesterday and picked up a tan XDS-9 Mod 2 with 3-9 round mags and the 7 round mag, cloth conceal bag and plastic range case, all for under $400.
Just picked one up , cool little gun! I dont get all caught up in the Springfield bs , i love there guns and especially there 1911's for the money nothing beats the trp. All there guns work great
At 4:35 in regard to the grip safety, the XDS “mod 1” had a more flush sitting grip safety and there was one time I didn’t have quite the right grip and obviously my gun wouldn’t function, the extra material on the safety of the mod 2 is to help with that “issue”, making it easier to deactivate the safety even with a bad grip.
Oh yes this is a must have for me no doubt. Great review. Looking forward to owning one. Glad they lost the Grip Zone lettering. Thanks for sharing brother.
Have a Ruger SR9C that I love. This Springfield is definitely up there as well. The trigger travel is my only pet peeve. Solid gun overall. Bought May 2020 and it came with 4 magazines in a small pouch. Bought the Viridian laser light with a coupon the gun came with. Now the gun looks amazing.
XDs Mod 2 v. PPS M2, If I Could Only Have One? It does look like a sweet shooter and has all the right measurements. But I don’t think they can put enough swag in the box to get me to forget their 2A shenanigans in Illinois last year. I never bought that SA didn’t know what the lobbying firm they started was doing. To paraphrase Hopper in A Bug’s Life, “You’re the CEO. EVERYTHING is your fault.”
I understand Jake. I like to think that every company does things at one point in time or another that not everyone agrees with. As long as better decisions are happening now, I am on board. Thank you and cheers!
KSGunGuy I do feel badly to the extent that the employees get punished in these situations, too. And, yes, a bad decision can be made up for. But this isn’t just “Oops! I pushed a little harder on the gas pedal than I meant to”. That’s a mistake. This had to have been carefully planned and executed with plenty of opportunity to realize the gross error that was being made, as well as the conspiracy aspect. That’s willful disregard. But, yes, I do see what you both are saying here and I’ve wondered how long to hold onto this. I’d have felt better if the CEO had resigned instead of making that BS apology video. What? “I’m sorry I got caught”? Very Hillary-like.
Had a previous version and liked the way magazines worked with extensions. But in my mind Sig P365 is better as low no as it keeps working. Mine is still kicking , even kicked some asses in local IDPA with it.
I have the XD 45 and XDe 9mm. Never had any issues with them, 100% reliability with both. HS Produkt makes a fine firearm for the price. I'm done buying them until they find another distributor.
Love my original XDs so much!!! Never a problem yet, have put over 2,000 rounds downrange!!! Also had it at Frontsight Firearms Training Institute!!! The other brands all had a few problems, zero problems with my gun!!!
Grip safeties that you can’t not actuate are a non issue. I had the first one and it was not an issue. I see your point about the bump. Just traded my first for a Mod 2. I will not trade my XDM Mod2 .45, “Grip Zone” notwithstanding. You can’t get it now in .45 and it is a phenomenal gun.
Hi KS sorry I have not commented on many videos lately. Big Precogradulations on 13k...you have put in the hard work...very professional job..every time.
My original XDs 3.3 in .45 A.C.P. works great! I like the new grip on the Mod. 2 On the original XDs the grip safety doesn't have that bump it's contoured and I don't even feel that it's there. If I had something to complain about it would be the extended magazine's grip at the base could slide up when inserting the magazine stopping it from seating properly without extra effort. I ended up securing it with clear epoxy as I recall. It caused me problems in reloads till I fixed it.
Excellent review "as always" owning the 45 I think they've done a nice revision of the xds. The ergonomics are definately better than the first gen. Trigger on mine feels like the gen 1 prior to the recall but it feels better when shooting considering the grip texture is not as aggressive as the first gen. 3 magazines is nice, I paid 450 with 5 magazines and a range bag during their promotion..not bad at all. The quality and reliability is great.
Just picked up the New Tauras TH9C and love it, i think it has this one beat hands down! Plus has a 13rd flush & 17rd extended mags with a very thin grip so small it feels like a single stack and the grip texture is perfect!! No need for talon grips
I think I've only seen one review ever bring up that the XDS (maybe all?) Have the barrel and guide rod stick out slightly so it doesn't get knocked out of battary as easily pressed against something.
I prefer the grip safety on the original XD. It goes completely flush, and you don't feel it, or give it a second thought while shooting. My XD-40 grip safety has worked every time, and I bought it new in 2002, 21 years ago.
I appreciate your reviews as you point out those things a shooter should consider. I have been considering one of these pistols, currently on sale and feel the 3 points you mentioned about grip safety, trigger travel, and pinky extension with the 7 rounder are points worthy of consideration. I imagine that Pearce Grips might have a more gradual pinky extension accessory than what is included from Springfield. The 8-rounder magazine looks to be the ticket with this firearm if using for concealed carry.
Are single stacks making a comeback? Micro junkie here that has many new models and older: 365, Shield Plus, Shield, PPS M2. Come to the conclusion I like the way a single stack fits into my hand more than a few rounds of capacity. I carry appendix IWB and find the Springfield is unique with the extra layer of safety with the grip safety. Also a big fan of Ameriglos. Decisions!!! The Walther has been my current carry pistol.
The enhanced grip safety hasn't bothered me after any of my 200 round range sessions. I also discovered that the exposed extractor is raised and tactile when loaded! You're right the build quality is second to none, including Sig Sauer! It's also built extremely robustly. I know it's a self defense trigger, but it's taking me time to master the trigger which is heavier than the competition's and it does not have a "wall" like a Glock or a Smith. You have to pull through the "wall" for a bit longer than the others. I removed my pinky extension. I can get a better grip without it. I'd prefer a reversed pinky grip like on the Taurus Spectrum.
@@KSGunGuy01 After two trips to the range and over 400 rounds, I'm actually, I'm very disappointed with this firearm, so far. This reason is the trigger. It's probably pulling at around 8.5 lbs or more! It's far heavier than my service model Springfield XD Mod 2, and any of my other guns including a Gen 4 Glock 26, and far more than my Taurus G2c. The trigger has almost no take up and then stacks and has a heavy pull THROUGHOUT distance of the pull , all the way back to the frame!! There is no "wall" that the trigger breaks on. It's more like a tunnel, that you have to pull all the way through. A friend of mine noticed the same thing when he handled it. It is by far the worst striker fired trigger pull that I have ever handled or owned, with the exception of my Smith&Wesson Sigma, years ago. No. I'm not exaggerating! I've read of two other guys saying that theirs also had an 8.5 trigger pull. I'm calling Springfield Monday morning and sending it back. I picked up and dry fired a Smith&Wesson Mod 2 Shield in the gun store immediately after shooting my XDS Mod 2 yesterday. I couldn't believe the difference!! This XDS 2 shouldn't have this heavy and long stacking trigger. I'm very disappointed and can't recommend this pistol. I'm not the only one having this issue.
Thank you for the detail on this Video, I almost bought one of these, but I'm glad I watched this first. That safety grip would really irritate me sticking into my hand like that, enough to make me not like the gun. Thanks again!
I promise bro you don’t even feel the safety grip at all. It presses in when you grip the gun, so I don’t know how it would press into your hand. To each their own.
Shout out from across town. Good review, looked like you were a little nice on that trigger pull though. That looked like to much travel after the wall for how far back the break was. Seems like that could make one handed firing much harder to stay even center mass, especially if practice some off-hand shots for self-defense. Would like to see you do a self-defense handgun range review where shoot multiple in the same day with one hand operation and off-hand to show some possible scenarios. I will still pick the P365 on trigger alone, also 1000+ flawless rounds so far with an early march gun.
Back at ya and thank you! The trigger isn’t the best on the market but it’s also not too bad. I would compare it to a stiff Glock trigger but with a break that’s further back. As for the self-defense comparison, that would be awesome. I’ll see what I can do. Cheers Jason!
New subscriber here, watched a couple of your videos. About to purchase my first firearm for home defense. Looking forward to learning and training. I thought maybe the KS in your name stood for Kansas then I knew once I saw you were at Frontier Justice. I plan to purchase from them, been to the range once and it’s very nice! #Kansas #2A
Hello fellow Kansan! I actually film at Centerfire Shooting Sports but do spend time at Frontier as well. Both are great places with very knowledgeable staff. As for home defense, you may want to consider a larger framed gun unless you plan to also carry. Keep me posted on whet you decide. Thank you and cheers!
I never got grip zone gripe people always seem to look for something to complain about there’s not many items that you can by that don’t have their identification seal on it if you by a Cadillac or a Ford or any car or truck it’s going to be there
That “grip zone” I never paid attention to it until someone pointed it out. After that, it was super annoying “why did the need to put that there?l type annoyance. And also with the memes and other pics of slide zone and blast zone. Lol
I BOUGHT ONE OF THESE FROM RURAL KING WITH A TOTAL OF 5 MAGS AND A RANGE BAG FOR $389.00 WHAT A BARGAIN AND A GREAT LITTLE SHOOTER....SAME SIZE AS MY GLOCK 43 AND IT SHOOTS AS GOOD AS MY LITTLE GLOCK WITH 1 MORE EXTRA ROUND....THE OTHER 4 MAGS ARE 9 ROUNDS....
