MENACING STAR WARS VEHICLE: When the rebels stood their ground on Hoth, they knew they could only hold off the Imperial All-Terrain Armored Transport (AT-AT) Walkers and not stop them outright. This kit presents that ominous vehicle in a fun plastic assembly kit.
MORE THAN JUST A WALKER: This set also includes two rebel Snowspeeders and laser turrets to complete a custom diorama. Decals are also included to decorate these elements.
ADDITIONAL MOTION: This improved edition of the AT-AT features adjustments made to the legs for a fuller range of motion in the knees and hips. All four legs are also articulated and a spring is included to assemble the neck.
QUICK SPECS: 1/100 scale. 8” tall. 77 parts. Injected in gray plastic. Glue and paint required. Skill level 2
All Terrain Walkers are armoured fighting vehicles from the Star Wars universe that traverse the landscape on mechanical legs. They are used by the Old Republic, the Galactic Empire, and the First Order for ground assault, reconnaissance or transport. Throughout the saga walkers have played a pivotal role in the fate of characters and the outcome of battles. Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) is responsible for their animation and design, often using models, stop-motion animation, and relevant matte paintings to depict their presence in the films.
There are a variety of walkers: The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi introduces the All Terrain Armored Transport (AT-AT) and All Terrain Scout Transport (AT-ST). Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and The Clone Wars introduced earlier Clone Wars-era models of walkers, such as the All-Terrain Tactical Enforcer (AT-TE), and the All Terrain Recon Transports (AT-RT). The Star Wars Legends continuity features numerous walker variants, several which have been merchandised in popular culture, while the later films Rogue One and Star Wars: The Last Jedi depicted, respectively, the former the AT-ACT variant to the standard AT-AT, the latter a restyled AT-AT for its new and more modern setting, and a new, even larger walker known as the AT-M6.
The All Terrain Armored Transport, or AT-AT walker, is a quadruped mechanized infantry combat vehicle used by Imperial ground forces.
The AT-AT (pronounced either casually as 'at at', or using only the letters 'A.T. A.T.')[3] was first introduced in The Empire Strikes Back (as the Galactic Empire's main units against Rebel Alliance infantry during the Battle of Hoth) and also appears in Return of the Jedi (as the vehicle used to transport Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader to their shuttle on the forest moon of Endor) and in Rogue One (in the AT-ACT variant, used to respond to the attacks of Rebel infantrymen of the Rogue One unit during the Battle of Scarif, although later defeated by the arriving Rebel Red Squadron of starfighers).
The AT-AT also appears in a destroyed form in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, explained in the video game Star Wars Battlefront (2015) to be a residue of the Battle of Jakku, which was the Empire's last defeat and resulted in its dissolution. Modified forms appear in The Last Jedi (used by the First Order to attack Resistance forces in a former Rebel base).
The theme park attraction Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, set after The Last Jedi, features two full-sized AT-ATs in a hangar bay. These walkers, while mostly static, can move their cannons to allow for a scene in which the walker's drivers spot the ride vehicles and fire at them.
The All Terrain Scout Transport (AT-ST) is a two-legged mech walker introduced briefly in The Empire Strikes Back and featured extensively in Return of the Jedi. These vehicles were designed to screen and protect the flanks of slower moving AT-ATs and the larger tanks used by the Empire. Due to their design and movement, they are often dubbed as a "chicken walker".[25] The name Scout Walker is also used to refer to an AT-ST. This name was used for the official toy instead of the AT-ST name. Used in the battle of Endor and also used in the battle of Hoth.

I built that one too. At first that's what I thought this feature here was. Still have one walker and some of the pieces from that one after all these decades. I forgot about the larger scale walker kit. Never found that one as a kid .

I had the original model release in the early 80s. They really improved the neck mechanism. It used to be a rubber band that you wound up to create the tension. The problem with that is the rubber band will fail over the years and break. You then had to glue the neck on after that. I just bought this new version and waiting to put it together. I have not built a model in over 40 years. As a matter of fact this was the last I built. Y the way, I’m a musician and really like your background music during assembly. You don’t hear much mandolin in music lately. That is one of the instruments I play. Thanks for the video.

Watching this brings back memories. I remember building this kit when I was in high school. I admit my version was pretty bad but I enjoyed it. But they put more in the box then I remember. It didn't originally come with the decal sheet (mine didn't anyway) and for the neck you had to provide a rubber band. Might see if I can find it and see what I can do with it now. Thanks for sharing the build. Been following you for a while, and like your builds, might even convince me to build a car one day. Cheers

This is the second video I’ve seen you using your bare hands (fingers) to wipe at the weathering paint to adjust it. Usually bare hands on a model is seen as a “no-no” but your finishes turn out great. I’ll have to keep this in mind for the future. Someone who does paint and finish bare-handed is Adam Savage, who did work on Star Wars later movies. I like this. Thanks
@gonsolop2429
@gonsolop2429 4 месяца назад
All models come from factory with oily surfaces, so handling with bare hands is usually a bad idea. Unless one washes the oil off in slightly warm soapy water. Dawn anti-grease is a great dish washing soap for this job. Also, there exist Lemon decreasing dish washin soap. This video host usually gets away with just painting over any of his finger prints. He's quite good.

@robertgarvey2609
@robertgarvey2609 2 года назад
Hey there Chris! I'm a big fan of your videos and I really appreciate what you are bringing to the hobby. Like most 'mature' modelers, I've fallen back into the hobby now that my kids are a little older. Also like most 'mature' modelers, I'm typically buying kits much faster than I'm building them and I now have a few hundred kits - some are actual vintage kits purchased from collectors, many are reissued kits from popular manufacturers and still more are military ('soft side' and AFVs). In one of your relatively recent kit-review videos (I think that it was the Hurst Olds Pace Car video), you warned us about the potential damage that the rubber tires can do to the styrene kit components if they are stored in contact with one another. Was that just for older kits? I've unwrapped and unboxed 4 of my recent purchases and have uniformly found that the tires are always packaged in a separate bag. Sometimes the decals are in a plastic sleeve of their own, too (I've found one Revell kit where this was not the case). Is there any kind of rule of thumb I should be using? I feel like maybe I shouldn't be taking all of these newer kits out of the factory cellophane..
@hpiguy
@hpiguy 2 года назад
That video is nearly seven years old. It's up to you if you want to check on stuff in your kits. I review plenty of current releases where the tires are bagged with the body. Most Revell issues place the decals in the pages of the manual with no bag. Most other companies bag their decals. Just remember if it's missing a part, now is the time to send in a claim. If the kit sits on a shelf for 5 years the chances of having a part replaced or a bad set of decals replaced isn't very good if the kit is out of print. Thanks for watching!
@robertgarvey2609
@robertgarvey2609 2 года назад
@@hpiguy Great, that's all the confirmation I was looking for. Yes, I goofed on the age of the video (it was new to me, anyway). Thanks again - appreciate the guidance; that's a really good point about potentially missing parts. Cheers!

The original full diaromma came with 2 x-wings with closed s foils, 3 to 4 turret cannons, 4 snow speeders, 3 AT-AT walkers ( one was wrecked ) , large base with a trench, about 20 rebel soldiers & 30 snowtroopers. I built it. Walkers broke very easily. I eventually gave it away too a bigger fan. Get this kit INSTEAD. Really! Bigger is indeed better for adults. Less likely too drive you mad during assembly. Build your own diaromma....one that will actually fit on a standard wall shelf. Much less in cost. The much larger one will only be price scalped too infinity like the perfect scale M.F.. Gees!

I like Bondene but any of the liquid plastic glues these days work just fine. Tamiya, Testors, Bondene are all excellent. I pour the Bondene into a smaller bottle so that when I tip the jar over I don't waste too much, hence the old glass bottle with tape on it you see.

Nice video,.. Quite nostalgic for me, I have the original (with the fixed hind legs). Back then we didn't get a fancy spring, we got an elastic band.... ;) I have had to partially deconstruct the kit twice to replace the elastic band in the meantime. Next time I'll think about getting a spring, can't believe i didn't think of that one before. Oh yeah,.. Not that cutting the "handles" off the springhook was a terrible decision, it worked fine of course but there isn't really a need to do so, you could just have stuck it all the way through the neck part (hook end first) and threaded the spring through? As I recall it was long enough to go through the whole assembly.

I tried a couple times and said to heck with it and just snipped and grabbed. Worked instantly for me that way. Thanks!

I remember having the original kit and there was no spring it was a rubber band that worked the head
@hpiguy
@hpiguy 2 года назад
Correct, a steel spring is way more durable and long lasting. You won't come out one day to see your poor ATAT beheaded and no way to reattach the rubber band inside it.

Hello Mr.Lincoln! Lol. I swear I watched the whole thing but didn’t catch if you clear coated before wash/weathering?

I don't know who Lincoln is but thanks for watching! I don't clear coat before weathering most times, no.

the speeders are screaming for a "harpoon" option :) I mean to attach them rather to the AT-AT with the wire :)

You should use a elastic band.
@hpiguy
@hpiguy 2 года назад
LOL, and when the band dries out and falls apart you're screwed because you can't take it apart again. The spring is far superior and will last forever.

I built the original kit when I was young. I remember being disappointed when I found out only two of the legs were posable.

I built this model as a kid. Lost thru the passage of time {I think I eventually set it on fire... I eventually set all my models on fire as a kid ... errr 🙄} A few years back I rebought it on Ebay still in the cellophane and kinda didn't wanna build it because it was still in the cellophane. Now I can get the new one and not open the original 😄. QUICK QUESTION... Is the new one come in CELLOPHANE>>>??????

Why do I keep missing oit these kits?! I'm subscribed to my local small town hobby shop & two online stores, yet I get left out every time a cool model gets released by Act 2. The stupid generic Tie fighter in 1/ 32 scale is FIFTY FREAKING DOLLARS already. The world has lost its fricking marbles!

I don't recall anyone saying that. More than one company can get a license to make models.

The improvements are appreciable, but unfortunately there's one major problem, the panel lines need to be engraved, not in relief. It's too bad they didn't fix that. It's a mistake that considerably devalues the model and it ruins all the work that's been done to improve it. And yet it was easy to check and fix it.
