Do You soak your new line in a bucket of water (12 to 24 hours b4 use) as recommended in the Stihl instructions that come with the head. Do you think this makes a difference in the performance of the line?
I just bout a Stihl trimmer with this spool. Its worked perfectly for taking down a mountain of weeds behind my house. The line failed to advance only once. I just opened it and rewound manually and no other issues
Bought one of these to replace old head that was a pain in the ass , with this awesome easy to use perfect everytime head. Loading it up is truly fast and simple. Zero headache!!!!!
until it starts getting dirty and dry and binds up so you cant wind the line anymore or bump feed it until you take apart the head to clean and lube it lol
Everything worked Just as you said it would. So easy-to-use. I didn’t even take the spool off the trimmer, just pushed the line through the hole after lining it up and then evened the line up and started to crank the head as showen on your video. All together it took about 3 to 5 minutes and I was back to trimming again. Thanks for the helpful video. 👍 👏
Thank you for watching. That was the purpose of the video. I felt not enough information Was given out about these heads, that's why i made this video. Glad this was useful.
I just got this head and i hated it at first but after using it for a week i think its the best one ive ever used i never use the auto load yet always manually loaded it
Nice video. Terrible head though, just upgraded to the FS-56rc from the fs-55r and immediately went and bought the 25-2c head for it. Within no lie 5 mins of using the 26-2 head the line “welded” itself together causing me to take my brand new Stihl trimmer apart to fix.
The Stihl Autocut 26-2 came stock on my FS56RC. My first order of business was to replace it with a normal Speed Head 400 when I noticed the Autocut added to much weight to my trimmer that it actually felt like I'd mounted a blade. I expect that on a blade, but a string trimmer head? I weighed the 26-2 and the Speed Head. The 26-2 was over 5 ounces heavier (1.1lb to 11oz) than the Speed Head. The Speed Head works perfectly--the Autocut is in storage.
yeah i immedaitely noticed that too when i replaced it with a speedfeed 400 lol. its so much lighter its easier to handle and i think it cuts better due to being lighter since the motor can spin the lighter head faster and easier
One thing I'm noticing with this head is how much line I'm not wasting. Had mine for 6 months and still have yet to run out of the line that came with it.
I find most bump feeds work best at full revs to release line, if its not spinning fast enough the spool doesnt have enough force to slip around and counter the force of the spring
Very good! I did not know about these. For some reason I only got the head for the hard plastic fingers/cutters with my Stihl. So, I need one of these. Thanks for the information and great explanation.
They have a flat base so tend not to rock and dig the strimmer cord into the grass. I've never had problems with it feeding line either...but what I do find amazing is nobody complains about the difficulty of loading line on it . After a few hours strimming, my hands are too weak to twist the bloody thing.😢
I'm running .095 on it with my Kma 135r battery Stihl trimmer. I like it but find it much wider than standard heads. I wanted it because my ryobi 40v has it standard, but in the regular size. But overall, it's easy to use and definitely saves time.
I just purchased the Stihl FS 56 trimmer with the auto cut head that you show in the video. I have brought it back to where I’ve purchased it twice. Here’s my issue. When I am using the trimmer IM having to tap the head too often to extend the line. I get about 6 to 10 feet of trimming and the line is disappearing inside of the head. I do hold my trimmer upright most of the time in my yard to edge my mulch beds. The last trimmer I had for 15 years was an echo and I only had to bump it 2 or 3 times to extend the line in the 45 minutes that it takes me to do my yard . This trimmer seems like it is very well-made but I am confused as to why am I losing the string so fast. Thank you
Soak the head in some water for 24 hours or so before using. See if that helps. It sounds like the line that's in the head is dried out and brittle. The head itself isn't causing the line to wear/break faster.
I got one. The string would not advance when bumped. I had to rewrap the string before it would work. The string was bound so tightly as if fused, there was no way it could have advanced.
If you dont cut the line properly it may have some rough edge at the top which makes it more difficult to push the line through the holes. I recommend you use sand paper to sand the top of the line.
Great video my friend I have to of them something most people don't know if you use a speed feed head ( echo ) you have to use the black spacer and that makes the line miss the cutter bar then your string is too long 😁
Bought my fs 131 acouple days ago, all settup from the dealer, soaked the line like recomended and it is unusable, welded broken line in the spool, have to continually take it apart to respool it, think the problem may be the line.
It seems many Stihl products are unavailable or on backorder. Very frustrating! Was in the market to buy a Stihl RMA 510 V lawn mower, what a laugh, no where to be found. I am going all battery power and did manage to locate the Kombimotor. No one had that in stock either. Are they still in business? Supply chain issues maybe? Wound up buying a EGO mower. Sorry Stihl!
It appears that some of the C 26-2 heads work fine and others do not. I'd have thought that Stihl would have looked into the problem since there are so many bad reports about the head not working. Perhaps it depends on in what factory they are manufactured.
Its like there is notch inside that is made just a shade higher or larger that doesn’t let the string fully release enough string. Something stop the string and melts string together. Have to take apart to remove string.
I would like to see Stihl make a spool for the bump feed heads with a metal wear cap on it , i used to buy non brand ones online which lasted far longet than the stihl plastic ones but i cant find them anywhere now. If i owned a lathe i would make a metal cap to attatch to the bump feed spools.
Specifically for the commercial grade line of strimmers , ones that use a 40-2 head and bigger, but even for my smallest strimmers, that use the 25-2 heads
I love my Stihl fs56 RC string trimmer head even the trimmer runs like a dream I just got to get the proper trimmer line for it I don't like to use any other trimmer line then a thick trimmer line from any brand braided trimmer line is the best thing to use if your doing yards with round trimmer line is for heavy brush or weeds but it doesn't matter
I have the same problem. Taking it apart, I saw that both halves of the cord are wound onto the inner spool, while the outer one remains empty. Now, I take it apart every time I load it and wind the appropriate sections of line onto the spools by hand.
I love how easy it is to load the string. But the string still gets hung. I seems like it gets a little warm and sticks to the rest of the roll. Also when I give my trimmer the gas, it feels like there is a wobble in the motor. Its brand new, but I've been using it a lot. Is there something I should check?
Great video/tutorial. I recently purchased My 56C and am very happy with it, and the 26-2 trimmer head that came on it. I always dreaded starting to cut grasses, etc. because of the constant messing with the line getting jammed or running out in short order, requiring what seemed like a stupidly long time disassembling the head and rewinding it. Not any more!
The main problems with these spools is that they don't release line when bumped. your video would have been a lot more worthwhile if you'd actually tested the head. I have a C 6 - 2 and, like a lot of people, I am not impressed with it.
i'm in here looking for reviews, cus I hate it. It's breaking off constantly and it breaks off inside the head pretty much every time. did you find a solution or did you just get a new head?
The jury's still out. I haven't use it much lately, but I have very little faith that it will improve. I think Stihl have a bad product here. If I buy again, it'd try for a different Stihl head. One of the comments below rates the Stihl 2-2 bump. Maybe the old is better than the new.
It's caused my shaft to bend I've had to hit it so often I wish I'd never got the thing! My old SuperCut 20-2 head lasted 2 decades and was awesome. This one has been on a year been terrible damaged my machine and worn almost the same as my old head did in a decade but in 1 year! Mines headed for the bin and I'll be fixing my trimmer and re installing the old SuperCut head and be happy for another 2 decades!
I heard that this model of mowing line, as long as it hits the ground when starting the machine, the mowing line will automatically extend without manual work. I tried several times without success, could you please demonstrate?
This head came standard on my FS 70 and it has not worked once. Worst line trimmer I have ever owned and have returned it to get my money back and investing in a good pair of scissors to trim my edges as it would be faster and less painful than using the FS70.
Hey stew me again. Thanks for everything bro ur really Helping me get this business going. Just want u to know I come to u first for anything I need to know about lawn maintenance equipment
Drop a locking pin into the hole on your gearhead. This will lock the rotation of the gearbox, then you can grab the whole plastic bump head assembly and spin clockwise. Spin the new head back on counterclockwise.
You honestly can't beat the old Stihl 2-2 bump head. Was brilliant even for contract work and also stood up well to close strimming of weeds on concrete patios and tarmac. These auto feed heads waste so much strimmer line it's obscene.
100% agreed. I ended up changing the head from a broken FS55RC weedeater. Got so sick and tired of having to put new string in after only 2 hours usage, junk IMO.
Hmmm, well mine has only just ran out of line after 4 years and do you think I can get the new line to load - nope. Tried all sorts, even took the head off like you have and no, not happening lol. I know it's just me but I hate the thing.
I just put this head on my Stihl 56RS. I hated the old head and had issues with it throwing the string out. After I put this head on I used it for about 3 feet and the string broke off inside the head. Had to take it apart to get it back out the feed channels. Same thing again in 3-4 feet. Thought maybe the string was old and it had been on the shelf or something for a while so put new Stihl string on it. The knob is extremely hard to turn while loading it. String would not feed again. Any suggestions? POS or something else?
The knob is hard to turn, but we have not found any issues with breaking line. The new line should have fixed the problem. I would guess if you were having problems with the old head too, it’s likely what or how you are trimming. Edging with a line trimmer and chain link fences are big line eaters. Also you want to operate with the line at full length and cut with the tips of the line. If you are diving in too quickly on vegetation that is too thick it will wrap around the trunks like Indiana Jones whip and yank it off at the eyelet. If all else fails, take it to your dealer and let them test run it for you to see if they can duplicate your results
@@mainstreetmower Thanks for the follow up. I do not have any chain link or trees. Only using it on fescue against a brick and stone fence. Use an edger for the sidewalks. I dont think it has anything to do with how I am using it but I do like the idea of letting the dealer run it some. Thanks again.
@@mainstreetmower It doesn't work for me. Taking it apart, I saw that both halves of the cord are wound onto the inner spool, while the outer one remains empty. Now, I take it apart every time I load it and wind the appropriate sections of line onto the spools by hand. I tried it with several cords. Any idea what could be wrong?
I have a lifetime worked with stihl tools but Husqvarna T35x is beating the shit out of stihl autocut and is what i use on a stihll tool. Totaly new design, bal bearing knob, aluminium core bolted to axle, durability axceeds 3 stihl autocuts.
Sir, that is THE question landscaping industry is asking right now. Is it time to switch to battery? As of now, the answer to that is very user and application specific. However, we did try to answer that in this video. Check it out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZiPFcOQCRq4.html
There's this one too where we compare a battery trimmer to a gas one. Here's the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wbMmbT1sTC8.html
Can this head be use for 0.155 or bigger string ? Have old head from FS 55R what come and use for realy hard jobe with 0.155 string . Can't found same and need new for my bigger FS 131 and FS 250 for some hard jobe.
Unfortunately no, the mounting bolt isn’t right. Watch this video, we show you all of your options for those models ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7xKXBKZ-qB0.html
